General Instructions:
i. Question paper comprises six Sections – A, B, C, D, E and F. There are 37 questions in the question paper. All questions are
compulsory.
ii. Section A – From Q1 to Q20 are MCQs of 1 mark each.
iii. Section B – From Q21 to Q24 are Very Short Answer Type Questions, carrying 2 marks each. Answer to each question
should not exceed 40 words.
iv. Section C - Q25 to Q29 are Short Answer Type Questions, carrying 3 marks each. Answer to each question should not
exceed 60 words.
v. Section D – Q30 to Q33 are long answer type questions, carrying 5 marks each. Answer to each question should not exceed
120 words.
vi. Section-E - Q34 to Q36 are case based questions with three sub questions and are of 4 marks each.
vii. Section F – Q37 is map based, carrying 5 marks with two parts, 37a from History (2 marks) and 37b from Geography (3
marks).
viii. There is no overall choice in the question paper. However, an internal choice has been provided in few questions. Only
one of the choices in such questions have to be attempted.
ix. In addition to this, separate instructions are given with each section and question, wherever necessary.

34. Countries like Japan have invested in human resource. They did not have any natural resource. These countries are
developed/rich. They import the natural resource needed in the country. How did they become rich/developed? They have
invested on people, especially in the field of education and health. These people have made efficient use of other resources, like
land and capital. Efficiency and technology. Technology evolved by people have made these countries rich/developed.

35. Our Constitution entitles every citizen to elect his/her representative and to be elected as a representative. The Constitution
makers, however, were worried that in an open electoral competition, certain weaker section may not stand a good chance to get
elected to the Lok Sabha and the state legislative assemblies. They may not have the required resources, education and contact to
contest and win elections against others. Those who are influential and resourceful may prevent them from winning elections. If
that happens, our Parliament and assemblies would be deprived of the voice of a significant section of our Population. That would
make our democracy less representative and less democratic.

36.The cold weather season begins from mid-November in Northern India and stays till February. December and January are the
coldest months in the Northern part of India. The temperature decreases from South to the North. The average temperature of
Chennai, on the Eastern coast, is between 240-250 Celsius, while in the Northern plains, it ranges between 100– and 150– Celsius.
Days are warm and nights are cold. Frost is common in the North and the higher slopes of the Himalayas experience snowfall.
During this season, the North-East trade winds prevail over the country. They blow from land to sea and hence, for most part of
the country, it is a dry season. Some amount of rainfall occurs on the Tamil Nadu coast from these winds as, here they blow from
sea to land. In the Northern part of the country, a feeble high-pressure region develops, with light winds moving outwards from
this area. Influenced by the relief, these winds blow through the Ganga valley from the West and the North-West. The weather is
normally marked by clear sky, low temperatures and low humidity and feeble, variable winds.
