SafeZone 3.0.0
SafeZone-edge 1.0.4175
SafeZone Setup 6.0.0
SafeZone & SafeZone-edge | Release Notes March 2019

Release notes
What’s new in this release
Digital Barriers is pleased to announce a new release of SafeZone, SafeZone-edge and SafeZone Setup. This
new release of SafeZone-edge adds:

 Support for APD PTZ Autotracking as a new component that can be installed on Axis PTZ cameras. This
offers PTZ tracking functionality based on detection of targets by SafeZone or SafeZone-edge

 AI based classification in SafeZone server to improve targets filtering with or without calibration

 Per scenario zone, time-based, targets filtering to offer finer control over alarms generation and more
advanced scenarios. As a result Intrusion and Loitering scenarios are merged

 Major speed improvements when connecting to AVHS server using administrator credentials

Important backward compatibility warning: Due to the changes in scenarios handling, SafeZone Setup v6 doesn’t
support modifying configuration of SafeZone-edge versions prior to 1.0.4175. Users can upgrade analytics
version on camera from SafeZone setup in order to enable configuration edition. For SafeZone server versions
prior to 3.0, SafeZone setup will also not support configuration edition. Users are advised to upgrade their
servers first.

License requirements and upgrade

SafeZone Server V3.X (included in SafeZone 6) requires a new license. Old V1.X and V2.X licenses are not
compatible anymore. Before upgrading an existing server V1.X to the new V2.X you can already install the new
V3 licenses, as those are accepted by both V1.X and V2.X servers. Proceeding this way you minimizes the
system downtime due to the upgrade.

Limitations
SafeZone
 SafeZone server cannot be run on a server where an application running RLM is present. Install on
another computer.

 When using Mobotix cameras, it may happen that a stream is not available during roughly 5 seconds;
when this happens, it happens once every 2-3 days. For mission-critical applications, use a different
camera brand

 When using Mobotix cameras, the minimum exposure setting can make the framerate go below 6 fps
especially during the night; this can leads to misdetections. As a workaround, use a smaller exposure
time to have at least 6 fps even in dark conditions

 When using Mobotix cameras, as soon as the stream configuration is changed on the camera main
web page, SafeZone loses the video stream and fails to retrieve it again. As a workaround, prevent any
modification of the stream configuration through the camera web interface

 When using Mobotix cameras with the dual-image stream (i.e. the video stream contains both images
from the two sensors at the same time, side by side) and the 2D Intelligent Motion Detection mode,
some noise can occur at the border between the two sensor views especially when the two sensors do
not have the same intensity level. To minimize this problem, do not define detection zones near the
common edge of the video frames and take care to use similar intensity levels between the two sensors

 When using Mobotix cameras with the dual-image stream (i.e. the video stream contains both images
from the two sensors at the same time, side by side) and the 2D Intelligent Motion Detection mode, if
the zoom level is different in the two fields of view, 2D filtering may not apply properly (e.g. impossible
to filter out big or small moving objects in both fields of view). To minimize this problem, choose a
similar zoom factor for the two sensors

 When using Mobotix cameras with the dual-image stream (i.e. the video stream contains both images
from the two sensors at the same time, side by side) and the 2D Intelligent Motion Detection mode,
tracks over the two sensor views can lead to bad interpretations especially if Loitering or Zone Crossing
or Conditional scenarios are used. To minimize this problem, limit the employed scenarios to Intrusion
scenario only or do not define detection zones near the common edge of the video frames

SafeZone-edge
 SafeZone-edge is not compatible with Axis Thermal cameras (SafeZone-edge ARC is though)

 SafeZone-edge will process the whole camera image and not view areas. As a result, on fisheye
cameras, unwrapped view areas cannot be processed

Page 7
SafeZone & SafeZone-edge | Release Notes March 2019

 Due to processing limitations, user should limit the number of streams viewed including those used in
Video Management Systems (VMS). In general, retrieving simultaneously more than 2 video streams
from the AXIS camera within a VMS or other viewers or enabling video recording in the camera based
on the AXIS built-in Video Motion Detection can degrade the required frame rate and thus the
SafeZone-edge performances for AXIS cameras/encoders, especially on older camera models. In more
recent devices, analytics framerate can be degraded when several CPU consumer processes are
running at the same time (ex: permanent video storage on SD card plus AXIS Video Motion Detector
plus stabilization plus several video streams retrieved from the camera)

 Multiple monitoring of the same video device (a camera or encoder) can affect the analytics results

 Having motion detection or other ACAP applications running on the Axis device can affect the analytics
results

 SafeZone-edge is not designed to protect zones containing multiple ground levels, or to monitor
multiple zones at different levels. In order to protect regions covering several levels, you need to use
different cameras to monitor each one

 Long-range detection cannot differentiate humans from vehicles

 On S3L cameras, SafeZone-edge is not compatible with the “Wall mounting” setting, that must be set
to “off”

SafeZone Setup
 The “Search” functionality cannot find cameras that are in a different sub network

 The “Search” functionality does not handle non root login

 It is not possible to configure AXIS cameras when you do not have administrator rights on the cameras

 Auto-calibration cannot be used in cluttered or crowded scenes

 Auto-calibration cannot be used with wide-angle lenses

 Calibration cannot be used to calibrate cameras with roll

 With 2D engine (no calibration, AI disabled) headlights filtering is enabled by default. When running
indoors, make sure to disable it if no headlights can be seen

 The maximum number of cameras you can install and configure simultaneously depends on the CPU
power and the memory available on your computer. When the CPU overload warning appears, please
install and configure a subset of the cameras using the Save Site feature

 Remote configuration from a SafeZone-edge camera can fail when connection used does not have
sufficient or stable bandwidth. Make sure you select the “Remote” option when adding cameras in this
situation

 Auto-calibration for remote camera only works if the installer walks for sufficiently long in front of the
camera to make sure a sufficient number of images are captured. Time depends on connection speed.
If good framerate is achieved a normal walk – as described in the user guide - is sufficient and you will
see the installers detected at various position in your scene as it should

 Reviewing calibration may not work on remotely connected cameras because the capture often has a
too low frame rate. It does not mean that the configuration failed. Make sure you use the avatar and
the grid to verify calibration

 Metadata displayed in the Setup interface from remotely cameras may be slightly wrong because of
bandwidth constraints

 New video streams on SafeZone server must be added using URL–encoded address, especially for
username and password passed in stream address

 When adding a new stream to a SafeZone server, it is possible that this stream is not immediately
reachable by the Setup interface. In this case, wait one or two minutes and re-open the Setup interface
Page 8
SafeZone & SafeZone-edge | Release Notes March 2019

 Demo mode results may differ between iterations of host CPU is too loaded

 Burnt-in metadata cannot be activated on the same resolution of analytics stream for firmware 7.20

 Burnt-in metadata can be activated on cameras by enabling Expert Mode on Outputs tab (i.e. pressing
Ctrl + Alt + E). Please note that you still need a compatible firmware. By activating Expert Mode you use
an experimental configuration provided “as is” without warranty and support of any kind

 Burnt-in metadata is not compatible with text overlay when used with firmware before 7.40

 Burnt-in metadata on Ambarella camera does not work although it can be activated

 Alert notifications TCP address is not validated when applied. Incorrect hostname/IP will result in alert
notifications not being delivered and error being logged.
