New Features
Ink Tanks
Use of needle
A new method is adopted where the needle of the print head is inserted into an ink tank.

Ink tank replaceable only when the ink level is low or when ink is used up
An ink tank can be replaced only when the ink level is low or ink runs out, so as to prevent ink leakage
from the ink supply hole of the ink tank. Only the applicable ink tank will come to the ink tank replacement

Repair of an ink tank

The ink tank errors listed below are the fatal errors, and users cannot replace the applicable ink tanks.
Replace them in repair servicing.
-
- Error 5501: Ink tank hardware fatal error
-
< Reasons >
In an ink tank having the error listed above, ink may remain. To prevent ink leakage from the ink supply
hole, the ink tank cannot be removed by a user.

Print Head
Replacement of the print head
When the print head is replaced in repair servicing, be sure to install the new ink tanks in the print head
when returning the repaired printer to the user.
< Reasons >
To replace the print head, the ink tanks originally installed (the user’s ones) need to be removed from
the print head. Since once-removed ink tanks are not re-usable, the new ink tanks must be installed in
the replaced print head.

12
Ink Absorber
Replacement of the Ink Absorber
When the Ink Absorber is replaced in repair servicing, be sure to replace all the following items at the same

- Absorber Kit
- Drain Tower Unit
- Blade Cleaner Unit

series, and iB4100 series.

Purge Unit (Cap Slider Unit and Pump Base Unit)

The unit performs maintenance of the print head (Cleaning, Capping, and Wiping).
The Purge Unit consists of two sub units, the Cap Slider Unit which performs Capping and Wiping and
the Pump Base Unit which performs Pumping during Cleaning.

Drive power for Pumping and Wiping is distributed from the PP Motor.

Scanner Unit
A CIS scanner sensor scans documents.
In this printer, the Scanner Unit and Middle Frame are integrated.
Note: iB4000 series and iB4100 series do not have the Scanner Unit.

177
ADF (Auto Document Feed) Unit
The unit picks up, separates, and feeds documents.
In MB5100 series, MB5300 series, and MB5400 series, the unit has the CIS sensor to scan the back side

The ADF is not equipped in iB4000 series and iB4100 series.

The unit ejects ink drops.

Paper Feed Mechanism

The printer has the following three ways of paper feeding:

and iB4100 series.

The printer feeds paper in three steps of 1) picks up paper, 2) separates paper, and 3) feeds and ejects
paper.
For details of each step, see

The PP Motor supplies the power to pick up paper, and the PF Motor supplies the power to feed and eject
paper.
The Drive Main Swing Arm Unit switches and transmits the power from the PP Motor to the applicable part.
For details of the Drive Main Swing Arm Unit, see

Some printer models have two more sensors, the PFPE Sensor and the PRPE Sensor, to detect the paper
