INTRODUCTION
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Throughout the history, there has been great emphasis on the effective and efficient
management of time, which has also been considered the key to success (Pugh & Nathwani,
2017; Nasrullah & Khan, 2015). Frederick Winslow Taylor gave the concept to use time
management for analyzing time and motion studies of employees with aim the decrease time
wasting and unproductive work (Savino, 2016). In this competitive era, for high performance,
the organization and direction emphasize on searching time management tools (Kumar &
Aithal, 2019). It has also been advised to start practicing time management from the early
student life (Valle et al., 2016). Time management has also been defined as a form of self-
management with a clear emphasis on time understanding what activities to do; how to do
them more efficiently; in what time it should be done and when is the correct time to the
particular activity (Savino, 2016). It has also been association with low anxiety and greater
academic achievement in students (Jenaabadi, Nastiezaie, & Jalalzaei, 2016).
Time management is a crucial skill that influences various aspects of life, including
academic performance, personal well-being, and future career success. The ability to manage
time effectively can significantly impact a student's academic journey, especially during the
critical years of high school. This study focuses on Grade 10 students in Da Vinci section of
Polomolok National High School, examining how their time management skills affect their
academic achievements. It aims to uncover the relationship between effective time
management in academic success, providing insights into the potential benefits of cultivating
these skills at an early age.
The influence of time management on academic performance is of interest. Time is an
important factor in measuring productivity, profits and wages. This allows students to
perform work and required tasks and improve their academic performance in accordance with
that predetermined standard. There have been many studies that found association between
greater academic achievement and effective time management as students acquire strategies
that helps them in meeting competing demands (Nadinloyi et al., 2013; Kharadze, Gulua, &
Davit, 2017). The curriculums in higher education institutes are designed in a way that gets to
peak and troughs in the workload of students requiring them to manage between their work-
life balance, often without the support of institution. Students have previously linked negative
educational results with poor time management which could be partially self-serving bias,
however, there have been ample studies that establish this association (Nadinloyi et al., 2013;
Kharadze, Gulua, & Davit, 2017).
Chapman and Rupured (2014) explain the concept of time many ways such as;
People are different in terms of time. Nowadays, the view of other cultures is that time is
flowing in a linear way with beginning and end, there is no reward and there is a limit to life.
Individual concept of time management depends on the nature of motivation, function, and
needs. Human behavior on time is an action taken from values that need to deal with the time
as well as social environments. Human values over time is a complex, where values turn into
this situation and the emergence of new motives process. The appearance of symptoms of
speed, because of the relationship of time to performance, which like tension, anxiety and
other symptoms that became characteristic of time.

Definition of Terms
To make it easier and more understandable for readers, we have defined the following
terminology based on how each is used in this paper:
Time management is important to help your priorities better and
increase your productivity. Good time management also makes you more
intentional about how to invest your time. Managing your time helps you
work smarter, not harder so you can get more done in less time and
capture bigger opportunities. Additionally, Time management is the process of
planning how to divide your time between specific activities; effectively managing your time
means you'll work smarter, not harder.
Academic performance simply refers to how well a student performs in their studies
and educational activities. Student consistently earning high grades in their classes,
participating actively in discussions, completing assignments on time, and demonstrating.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
This chapter presented the significant readings of the researchers on the different
topics, which were found useful in the development of this study.
Time is endless, and the time consumed by everyone can never be retrieved. Time
may seem to flow constantly, but as it is spent on certain activities, some may find it not
enough to finish the things to be done in a day (Carroll, 2015). Everyone should be able to
manage their time effectively and efficiently in order to complete their tasks. Additionally,
good time management produces better decisions, especially when one is not under pressure.
As a result, by choosing the right choices deliberately, one can lead a successful life simply
by managing their time well.
Furthermore, a person personal approach can be sed to describe their time
management abilities and methods. It, in general, adds to many important qualities (Carroll,
2015). Accordingly, empirical studies frequently demonstrate a significant correlation
between students’ time management and academic performance (Aeon, 2021), as well as
well-being factors such as lowered stress and anxiety (Häfner, 2015). According to Sahito et
al. (2016), time management is a technique for allocating time in accordance with the
demands of various tasks and activities with the aim of assuring organizational performance
and maximizing benefits by using, saving, and not wasting time or energy. Effective time
management entails making the best use of time to boost output and success. To accomplish
organizational objectives through thorough planning, coordination, and implementation, work
schedules must be managed. Since it involves the development and application of effective
ways to complete assignments within a specific time frame and at the requisite quality level,
time management is a crucial asset for both individuals and organizations (Sahito et al.,
2016). However, the only way to create good time management is through effective
application, talents and behaviors needed for professional success.
Due to attending courses, finishing homework, and studying for tests, students
generally have very hectic and stressful lives. They also have distinct daily schedules and
lives, which are essential for striking a balance between their academic and extracurricular
obligations. It can be difficult and intimidating to find the time to complete everything at
once. Here is an example of how to effectively manage your time. Students need to nurture
this skill. For them to be efficient and more effective, they must adopt the essential tactics
and apply them. These abilities enable students to organize their time and prioritize
impending tasks and events. This contributes significantly to academic performance by
helping students stay organized and prevent procrastination. With a student's busy schedule,
time management can be very helpful. It guarantees that students are well-prepared,
organized, and focused to manage their everyday life and complete academic work on time.
Although it can result in more success, this is a skill that students must acquire and hone.
For students to develop effective time management techniques, they must change their
habits. Students must take the initiative to recognize their issues in order for this to occur.
Effective time prioritization is a key component of having good time management abilities.
In the relevant literature there are great number of academic studies focusing on the
relation between time management and academic achievements. The related literature
showed that the time management attitude and skill levels of university students and the
effects of these skills on their academic achievement. The research revealed that a majority
student possesses moderate level time management skills and only a significantly small
portion has high level time management skills (Yilmaz, Yoncalik & Bektaş, 2006). The
literature revealed that the students, time management skills affect their academic
achievement at a significant level and the skills are one of the predictors of academic
performance.
The relevant literature suggested that students should start to acquire time
management senses on their own in their primary school years by reading materials on the
issue or via the framework of psychological counseling and guidance studies applied in
schools and adopt effective time management attitudes and techniques to determine how and
where they spend their time (Lisa & Robert, 2008). The various group of students who
exploited time-saving proficiencies notably had rich academic achievement. They
accomplished those students who do not use time saving techniques in their educational
surrounding having significantly lower academic as compared to results students who employ
time-management tactics have considerably higher achievement (Mercanlioglu, 2010).
To calculate the cumulative time spent working during a week, these objects were
also added. Time management practices have been proven to be some of the top indicators
toward achieving a high level of academic success and performance. They not only influence
on the achievement but using time management techniques also serve only one reason
meaning that there are multipurpose fulfilled by time management (Fazal, 2012). Taking part
in proceedings and being engaged in other outside class activities, not inevitably a job, but
being energetic in institution also has a strong correlation to reaching high academic
achievements. Various studies showed that time management practices serve for many
purposes not only for challenging performance of the students. Time management practices
show the way not only to a high level of academic performance, but to good physical
condition and lower levels of stress. The foremost purpose of the present study was
educational competency, using time managing techniques, test pressure, and test proficiency
(Faisal, Miqdadi, Abdulla & Mohammad, 2014). Academic competence scores were
established to some extent improved in the current sample indicating that students found
course material/content encouraging and enjoying their classes.
