MAIN ARGUMENT:
PROS
1. Introduction + History of AI (ERL)
2. Education (AUDREY)
3. Industry and Business (ANDRIE)
4. Health and Medical Field (MARCHELLA)
5. Climate Science + Conclusion (RAI)
HISTORY OF AI
AI has a long history, dating back to the 1950s when the first AI programs
were developed. “Artificial Intelligence” was coined by John McCarthy in
1956 as “the science and engineering of making intelligent machines”. There
are two broad concepts of AI namely General AI, which is focused on
machines with certain human intelligence, and Normal AI which are the
common type of technology used to perform specific tasks.
THESE ARE OUR REASONS WHY WE ARE PRO AI
1. AI can increase access to research and development in education
2. AI can assist with legal services and demands
3. AI can increase efficiency and support in healthcare through
4. AI can reduce mundane tasks and provide smart home technologies
and provide opportunities for us to combat climate change
THIRD SPEAKER: AI IN THE INDUSTRY AND BUSINESS
AI uses real time data to aid business persons to produce or choose the best
decision for the business, foreseeing possible losses and profits.
Nababawasan nila ang mga panganib at makakaisip ng mga trends na
maaring makatulong sa negosyo ng tao. AI is also used in manufacturing to
develop predictions about the systems, machineries, and tools used thus
preventing waste and reducing downtime.
AI helps in innovation by aiding in
the development of new technologies and solutions to problems in the
business.
REBUTTAL:
According to AIDA (Artificial Intelligence Development Agency), more
than 50% of children starting school now will hold jobs that never existed by
the time they graduate high school or college. By 2030, AI could boost the
GDP of the world by 26% while potentially adding 16% to the global
economy.
FOURTH SPEAKER: AI IN THE MEDICAL FIELD
Medical imaging analysis:
AI is used by cardiologists and radiologists to analyze scans and
images for crucial information. This aids them in setting priorities for
important cases and preventing mistakes while interpreting electronic health
records (EHRs).
Drug discovery:
Terabytes of biological data are produced by AI by fusing the greatest
aspects of biology, data science, and chemistry. The program can run over a
million experiments every week using this data, which speeds up drug
discovery and makes it simpler to track down a drug's harmful potential.
Cancer research and treatment:
- Radiation therapy lacks a digital database to collect and organise
EHRs. AI collects relevant medical data, evaluates the quality of care,
and optimises treatments through data imaging and oncology
outcomes
AI assists to create ease of access for differently abled individuals.
AI-powered speech recognition software can help people with limited
mobility move around or control devices. Likewise, prosthetics and
exoskeletons may use AI to be more intuitive and responsive.
REBUTTAL:
FIFTH SPEAKER: AI IN CLIMATE SCIENCE AND HOME
In the course of history, innovation is one of the things that paved the way
for new discoveries. Nothing is permanent but change. Innovation is not
without its challenges and often causes worldwide debate. With all the bad
things that AI has caused based on what you have reiterated, I want to
remind everyone that technology should not be imagined as a solution on its
own, according to our first speaker, “it merely aligns with human intent and
magnifies human capacity.”
International effort to ensure that science and technology develop with
strong ethical regulations for decades are underway with the help of
UNESCO. The rapid rise in artificial intelligence (AI) has created many
opportunities globally, from facilitating healthcare, education, industry,
and more. But with it comes the danger of humans using AI wrongly ; taking
advantage of it for their own benefit. Humans fear what they cannot
understand. UNESCO produced the first-ever global standard on AI ethics –
the ‘Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence’ in
November 2021. It is applicable to all 194 member states of UNESCO.
With the rising problems due to climate change, scientists and researches
investigate many different scenarios and enhance solutions without the need
for expensive resources with the use of AI. It offers the potential to automate
routine and time-consuming tasks, leading to significant productivity
enhancements by streamlining repetitive processes.
It provides improved success in gaming and simulations, communication
services, enabling more efficient transportation, or supporting more
personalized healthcare. With this interest come a lot of questions regarding
social impact, malicious uses, risks, and governance of these innovations.
Amnesty International and Element AI demonstrated how AI can
be used to help trained human moderators with identifying and
quantifying online abuse against women on Twitter.
The Makerere University AI research group supported by the UN
Pulse Lab Kampala developed automated monitoring of viral
cassava disease. This same group collaborated with Microsoft
Research and other academic institutions to set up an electronic
agricultural marketplace in Uganda.
Satellite imagery was used to help predict poverty and identify
burned-down villages in conflict zones in Darfur, and collaborative
efforts between climate and machine learning scientists initiated the
field of climate informatics that continues to advance predictive and
interpretive tools for climate action.
AI can analyze large amounts of data to monitor weather patterns if
there is a risk of natural disaster. AI can improve waste management
with the help of AI sensors and robots.
It estimates that the number of BPO industry jobs in the country will
actually increase by 1.1 million between the end of 2023 and 2028. While AI
has been displacing workers in the Philippines and in other countries, it has
also created new employment opportunities. People continue to be needed
to perform tasks like classifying content, coding, data editing, and
annotating.
AI feeds on and works with the correct data that people provide.
CALL TO ACTION
Undoubtedly, innovations play a vital role in enhancing the well-being and
progress of humanity. It is crucial, therefore, to say that technology and
other forms of innovation should not be immediately dismissed as
unfavorable. However, it is of utmost importance to exercise caution when
distinguishing between beneficial innovations and those that may pose risks
or dangers.
We encourage everyone to actively seek out opportunities for delivering
positive social impact. Ethics and inclusivity should be central to AI systems.
Finally, we invite everyone to join the discussion and help shape the strategy
around how to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges with some of the
most powerful technological solutions available. Only together can we build a
better future.
