Welcome to the Mary Webb Year 6 Transition Numeracy Project!
The aim of this booklet is to give you some practice of some of the Maths
Skills you have used at Primary School as well as an introduction to some
of the Maths you will be looking at when you get to Secondary School in
September.
The booklet contains a mixture of different tasks, some you will find
really straight forward, and be able to do without any help, and some will
make you think – you might need to ask for a bit of help from a friend,
teacher or someone at home.
Have a go at as many of the tasks in the booklet as you possibly can and
bring it with you in September to show your new teachers at Mary Webb
all the good Maths you can do!
Good luck!

(BODMAS) Indices, Division, Multiplication, Addition then
Subtraction)
Calculate Work out the answer to a number problem
Combinations A mixture of items from a collection
Decimal point The dot used to separate the whole part from the
fraction part of a number

Fibonacci Adding up the two previous numbers to get the next
series/sequence one in a number pattern
Fraction Parts of a whole (For example, ½ , ¾ )
Numerator The top number in a fraction
Partitioning Dividing something into parts
Product To multiply / times numbers together
Remainder What is “left over” following a division

Take the first number and add the units digit of the second number. 15 + 3 = 18
Multiply the units digits of both numbers and add to your last answer. 5 x 3 = 15
180 + 15 = 195
Use the method shown to quickly multiply these numbers.
Therefore 15 x 13 = 195
12 × 16 13 × 19 Trying it again
(12 + 6) × 10 = 180 (13 + 9) × 10 = 220
14 x 18
2 × 6 = 12 3 × 9 = 27
14 + 8 = 22
180 + 12 = 192 220 + 27 = 247
220
17 × 18 14 × 11
4 x 8 = 32
(17 + 8) × 10 = 250 (14 + 1) × 10 = 150
220 + 32 = 252
7 × 8 = 56 4×1=4
250 + 56 = 306 150 + 4 = 154 Therefore 14 x 18 = 252
