III. Instructions
a. Download Google Earth, and launch the application.
b. Tools Options 3D View Show Lat/Long Universal Transverse Mercator OK
Notice on the lower right of the Google Earth display (red box), the set of UTM coordinates of
your cursor on the map.
c. On your Google Earth map, browse any vacant lot you can find. Avoid cemeteries and golf
courses. You may choose from complex subdivision lots, rice field, etc with defined corners.

d. Add “Placemark” on your chosen lot’s approximate corners as visible as possible. You may edit
the default “Untitled Placemark” description as any corner number you may prefer (clockwise).
e. Take note of ALL your corner’s UTM coordinates as shown on the “Google Earth – New
Placemark” dialogue box. You will be needing this when you compute for your lot descriptions
(Bearing, Distance, Area) and plotting details of your chosen lot.

f. For tie line data;
i. Click the “Show sidebar” icon on the menu. The sidebar will appear on your left side.
ii. Click the “Borders and Labels” on the “Layers” tab.
Notice the labels of cities and/or municipalities will appear when you check the box.

iii. Choose whichever is nearest your chosen lot. In this case, Jala-jala Municipality.
iv. Put the cursor on top of the label’s marker, and take note of the UTM coordinates on the
lower right portion of your display. This will be your tie point coordinates.
v. You will now be able to determine the tie line details of your lot (Tie point to corner 1).
vi. Get a screenshot of your plotted lot with corners from Google Earth app.
REMEMBER: THE COORDINATES OF YOUR CORNER LOTS WILL COME FROM YOUR OBSERVED
SIDESHOTS. THE SIDESHOTS WILL COME FROM YOUR TRAVERSES. YOUR TRAVERSES WILL COME
FROM YOUR TRIANGULATION STATIONS’ PUBLISHED COORDINATES AND AZIMUTHS. TIE POINT
DETAILS WILL COME FROM YOUR CADASTRAL SURVEYS. THE COORDINATES IN THIS EXERCISE
CAME FROM GOOGLE EARTH ONLY
