TOPIC: Introduction to Personal Health

 PERSONAL HEALTH- Personal Health

is the ability to take charge of your health
by making conscious decisions to be
healthy. It not only refers to the physical
well being of an individual but it also
comprises the wellness of emotional,
intellect, social, economical, spiritual and
other areas of life.

 DIFFERENT COMPONENTS OF
PERSONAL HEALTH:
Physical Health: Involves maintaining
endurance, strength, flexibility, and overall
bodily function through daily exercise,
hydration, sufficient sleep, and a balanced diet.
Intellectual Health: Centers on continuous
learning and mental growth through books,
classes, conversations, and surrounding
yourself with positive, thought-provoking
people.
Spiritual Health: Emphasizes practices like
meditation, prayer, journaling, or volunteering
to clear your mind, find purpose, and give back
to others.
Emotional Health: Focuses on managing
thoughts and feelings positively, aided by
planning, exercise, a healthy diet, journaling,
and seeking professional help if needed.
Environmental Health: Stresses creating and
maintaining safe, clean, and organized living
and work spaces that foster comfort and peace.
Social Health: Highlights building and
nurturing healthy relationships, engaging in
social activities, and setting boundaries for
interactions that align with personal well-being
goals.
 DIFFERENT WAYS IN
MAINTAINING PERSONAL
HEALTH:
According to World Health Organization
(WHO), Regular physical activity is proven to
help prevent and manage noncommunicable
diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes
and several cancers. It also helps prevent
hypertension, maintain healthy body weight
and can improve mental health, quality of life
and well-being.

WHO guidelines and recommendations provide

details for different age groups and specific
population groups on how much physical
activity is needed for good health.
WHO recommends:
Children and adolescents aged 5-17 years
Should do at least an average of 60 minutes per
day of moderate-to-vigorous intensity, mostly
aerobic, physical activity, across the week.
Should incorporate vigorous-intensity aerobic
activities, as well as those that strengthen
muscle and bone, at least 3 days a week.
Should limit the amount of time spent being
sedentary, particularly the amount of
recreational screen time.

Why is physical activity so important for health

and well-being?

It’s a natural mood lifter- Regular physical

activity can relieve stress, anxiety, depression
and anger. You know that "feel good sensation"
you get after doing something physical? Think
of it as a happy pill with no side effects! Most
people notice they feel better over time as
physical activity becomes a regular part of their
lives.
It keeps you physically fit and able- Without
regular activity, your body slowly loses its
strength, stamina and ability to function
properly. It’s like the old saying: you don’t stop
moving from growing old, you grow old from
stopping moving. Exercise increases muscle
strength, which in turn increases your ability to
do other physical activities.
It helps keep the doctor away- Stand up when
you eat your apple a day! Too much sitting and
other sedentary activities can increase your risk
of heart disease and stroke. One study showed
that adults who watch more than 4 hours of
television a day had an 80% higher risk of
death from cardiovascular disease.

Being more active can help you:

Lower your blood pressure
Boost your levels of good cholesterol
Improve blood flow (circulation)
Keep your weight under control All: Yes sir!
Prevent bone loss that can lead to osteoporosis
All: Yes teacher.
Say: Did you understand our discussion class?
