Input

Input devices are essential for entering data into computer systems, including keyboards, mice, joysticks, and scanners. A mouse controls the pointer on the screen through motion detection, while a keyboard allows for typing characters and functions. Joysticks enable control of digital objects through directional movement, and scanners convert physical items into digital images for the computer.

INPUT DEVICE

INTRODUCTION

• There are many different ways we can input data into a

computer system. The devices we use are called input devices
and include keyboards, touch screens, microphones, movement
sensors and webcams.
MOUSE

• A computer mouse is a small device that you use to control the pointer on your
computer screen. It allows you to select items and give instructions to your computer.
• A mouse detects two-dimensional motion relative to a surface.
• This motion is translated into the motion of the pointer (cursor) on the display.
• You can use the mouse to point, click, and drag items on the screen.
KEYBOARD

• A computer keyboard is a device that allows you to type letters, numbers, and symbols
into a computer. It’s one of the most common ways to input data into a computer.
• A keyboard is an input device that’s connected to a computer using a cable or wirelessly.
• You press keys on the keyboard to enter characters and functions into the computer.
• The keys act as mechanical levers or electronic switches.
JOYSTICK

• A joystick is a hand-held input device that controls the movement of a digital object on a
computer screen. It’s also known as a flight stick.
• A joystick has a stick that pivots on a base.
• The stick can be tilted or pushed in different directions.
• The joystick reports the angle or direction of the stick to the device it’s controlling.
SCANNER

• A scanner is considered an input device since it provides

information to the computer in the form of scanned images. It
will take anything that is physically present, such as a paper or a
picture, and convert it into a digital form before transferring it
to your personal computer.
