I. INTRODUCTION
This maintenance manual contains information for the Powered Gun Gamma Ray Tool, PGGT-CC.
The Introduction gives a brief description of what can be found in the manual.
I.1 Purpose of the Maintenance Manual
The purpose of the maintenance manual is to provide field maintenance personnel with information
required to properly maintain and repair field equipment. Information included in the manual is
centered around maintenance and troubleshooting procedures. The manual is written so that even
new technicians in field districts can understand and use it effectively.
I.2 Manual Format
Manual formats will vary slightly depending on the type of tool or module for which they are
prepared. The following text describes the contents of each section in the manual.
I.2.1 Master Table of Contents
The Table of Contents lists all major headings and subheadings, normally through level 4. It uses a
modified MIL-SPEC numbering scheme. Each CHAPTER begins with a numbered primary heading
on a new page and pagination begins anew for each chapter. The page numbers will be double
numbers showing the primary heading number of the chapter and the number of the page within the
chapter (for example, 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, ...; 2-1, 2-2, 2-3, ...). Illustrations, Tables, Charts, and
Appendices are also listed and their locations given.
I.2.2 Chapter 1Safety and Precautions
This chapter contains special WARNING and CAUTION information to be read before any work is
done on the equipment. It is the most important chapter in this manual since safety of personnel is of
prime importance. The chapter is broken down into two parts: PERSONNEL SAFETY and
EQUIPMENT PRECAUTIONS. Be sure to read the SAFETY chapter before operating or working on
the equipment.
I.2.3 Chapter 2 General Description and Specifications
This chapter gives a general description of the PGGT-CC Powered Gun Gamma Ray Tool.
Illustrations show the assets that make up the tool. The individual tool assets are also briefly
described.
The chapter also gives a brief description of measurements, combinations, and rating of the
downhole tool (pressure, temperature, and O.D). A listing of characteristics; i.e., length, weight, etc.
is provided.
This information is CONFIDENTIAL and must not be copied in whole or in any part, and should be filed accordingly by the addressee.
It must not be shown to or discussed with anyone outside the SCHLUMBERGER organization.

I.2.4 Chapter 3 Combination with Other Tools
This chapter is nothing more than a statement that indicates the PGGT-CC is used with most
perforating guns.
I.2.5 Chapter 4 Theory of Operation
The Theory of Operation chapter is centered around a detailed Tool Block Diagram. A description of
what each block in the diagram does is provided.
I.2.6 Chapter 5 Detailed Circuit Description
This chapter explains how each circuit contained within the PGGT-CC functions. The PGGT-CC tool
consists of various electronic functions laid out on three separate circuits. These are:
- H518150 Reg/Osc - HV Ladder
- H518930 GR Ampl & Cable Driver
- H655400 CCL Ampl & Cable Driver
A detailed description, down to the component level, is given. It contains individual schematics of
circuits being described, shows where the circuits get their inputs, and where they send the output
signals. The detailed circuit description will usually follow the same sequence used for the Theory of
Operation chapter.
I.2.7 Chapter 6 Test Equipment
This chapter discusses the SFT-222 Dummy Gun used to check the operation of the shoot
protection circuit in the PGGT. It also has a schematic illustration of the SFT-222.
I.2.8 Chapter 7 Operating Instructions
Operation instructions such as program loading, setup, and basic operation are given in this chapter.
I.2.9 Chapter 8 Disassembly and Reassembly
This chapter is divided into two major sections, Disassembly and Reassembly. The Disassembly
section provides a step-by-step procedure that leads to a total disassembly of the PGGT tool and
each of its major components (such as the Scintillation Gamma Ray Detector). The Reassembly
section reverses the procedure and provides detailed instructions on reassembly and installation of
each major component until the tool is completely rebuilt.
This information is CONFIDENTIAL and must not be copied in whole or in any part, and should be filed accordingly by the addressee.
It must not be shown to or discussed with anyone outside the SCHLUMBERGER organization.

I.2.10 Chapter 9 RITE Maintenance
This chapter provides procedures for executing the RITE Program for the PGGT-CC. RITE is an
acronym for Review and Inspection of Tools and Equipment. The purpose of the RITE program is to
provide guidelines for preventative maintenance execution (FIT & TRIM).
A few Q-Checks are also given to assist in localizing tool malfunctions.
I.2.11 Chapter 10 Troubleshooting
The procedure outlined in this chapter is designed to complement the Q-Checks made in Chapter 9
RITE Maintenance. The troubleshooting procedures are consulted if a Q-Check in the RITE
Maintenance chapter fails.
I.2.12 Chapter 11 SHM Modification
Included in this chapter is a modification procedure that will allow the Shooting Tool Module (SHM-
AA) for use with PGGT-A/B/C. The modification adds a Log-Shoot switch on the front of the SHM.
I.2.13 Chapter 12 Circuit Diagrams
This chapter contains all the necessary H-numbered schematics to maintain the MWPS-A tool and
the MWPM-AA module.
I.2.14 Appendices
There are several appendix at the rear of this manual. They contain a special computer- prepared
Bill of Material, Electrical Parts Lists, and drawings for assets pertaining to the PGGT-CC.
There are ten primary appendix:
A. PGGT-CC Bill of Material and Assembly Drawing
B. MWPT Drawings
C. Reference Documents
D. Wiring Lists
E. Manufacturing Equipment
F. Optional Equipment
G. MR1 Kit for PGGT-CC
H. Manufacturers' Bulletins
