Activity Type Introduction
Vocabulary Activity: In this Valentine's Day activity, students complete a crossword by
reading clues, describing, listening to clues and guessing Valentine's Day vocabulary.

Procedure
Focus Divide the students into pairs (Student A and B).
Valentine's Day
Give each student a corresponding worksheet.

Have the pairs of students sit face to face and tell them not to
show their crosswords to each other.
Aim
To complete a crossword Explain that both students have the same crossword, but Student
by listening to clues and A has the words across and Student B has the words down.
guessing Valentine's Day
vocabulary. The students' task is to ask their partner for clues and complete
the missing Valentine's Day words on their crossword.
Preparation Students then take it in turns to ask their partner for a clue to one
of the missing words on their crossword, e.g. 'What's one down?'
Make one copy of the two
worksheets for each pair
Their partner reads out the clue for that Valentine's Day word and
of students.
the other student tries to guess what it is.
Level If the student guesses the word successfully, they write it on their
crossword.
Intermediate (B1)
If not, their partner continues to give more clues until the student
is able to guess the word.
Time
25 minutes When the students have finished, they check their spelling by
comparing crosswords.
