School is a place where we can study formally and informally. There are
many rooms in our school. Each room has its own place. So, we must know
the exact location of each room. In this chapter, we will learn how to ask
and give direction about school location. Second, we will learn to describe
our extracurricular activities. Third, we will learn about announcement text
about school events and describe events happen in our school.

A. School Buildings
A school is an educational institution and building designed to provide
learning spaces and learning environments for the teaching of students
under the direction of teachers. It has some facilities to support the
teaching and learning process.
1. The schoolyard
An outdoor area on school grounds used for recess, games, or other
activities
2. The principal office
The office of the school’s principal, often used for administrative
tasks, meetings, or disciplinary actions.
3. The Teachers’ room
The place where teachers can relax before or after class, spend
recess, consult with colleagues, plan lessons, discuss educational
issues and socialize.
4. The staffroom
A room where the administrative staffs work to support educational
program of a school.
5. The classroom
A room used for teaching and learning, often with desks, chairs, and
a board or projector.
6. The music rooms
A room used for music classes, often with instruments, sheet music,
and audio equipment.
7. The computer rooms
A room used for computer classes or computer-related activities,
often with computers, software, and peripherals.
8. The library
A room or building used for storing and lending books, often with
tables, chairs, and computers for research.
9. Laboratory
A room with equipment to do scientific test or experiments,
investigations and others
10. School Canteen
A place within a school that provides food and drinks to students
on a daily basis.
11. School Hall
A place which provides a designated space for students, teachers,
and staff to some together for various gatherings and assemblies.
For examples morning assemblies, school meetings, school events
and others.
12. School Medical Room
A room that provides a safe and supportive environment where
students can receive basic medical care, assistance, and support
during school hours.
13. Parking Area
An area which vehicles such as cars, buses, motorcycles can park

Because of many rooms in a school, there is usually a map to help
the visitors to find their destination place. A school map is a map used to
tell the exact location of rooms in a school. But when we are in a place
where we are not familiar with the locations, there are chances of getting
lost even if we have a map. So, it is required to have knowledge of asking
and giving directions in English so that we can reach our destination.

B. Extracurricular Activities
Activities play a vital role in student learning. Experience in joining
extracurricular activities can empower students to explore and cultivate
their individual talents and passions. Extracurricular activities program not
only enables students to meet peers from different year groups who share
common interests but also fosters lifelong friendships and valuable
connections. There are many kinds of extracurricular activities that
students can join, from sports to arts, music to technology, language to
leadership and others.

C. School Festival
School Festival means an activity organized by the school for
celebrations at the school. It may involve a number of stalls, sale of goods
and donated claims and entertainment. The examples of school festival are
book fair, cultural fair, sport day, music festival and others.
To describe school Festival, you use a descriptive text. Descriptive text is
a text that describes a particular object in detail. It can be persons, animals,
things or activities.
The generic structures of descriptive text are as follows;
a. Identification
Identification explains about the topics or identifying what or who
want to be described.
b. Description
Description explains the details of the topic, such as describing
parts, qualities and characteristics.
The language features of descriptive text are as follows;
a. Use specific participant
The text has a certain object, is not common and unique (only one).
Example my house, my school, our garden
b. Use simple present tense
Simple present tense is used to describe facts and habits,
unchanging situation, and general truths.
c. Use action verbs
Action verbs are used to show an activity such as run, walk, clean.
d. Use adjectives
The adjectives are used to clarify the noun. For examples a big
classroom, an interesting activity and a large school.
Here is the example of descriptive text about a school festival
My School Festival
My school holds an annual sport festival. It is usually held on December.
It takes place in some school facilities. At this festival, students participate
in many sport activities such as basketball competition, volley ball
competition and athletics competition. There is also a traditional sport
namely Gobag Sodor.
The basketball competition is usually held in the basketball court which
located in front of the school. The volley ball is also held in front of the
school. The athletics competition and Gobag Sodor is held in the school
yard. Every class should participate in the competitions.
The students who do not participate in the school competitions can
make some stalls. They sell their own products during the events such as
foods and drinks. Many students like this activity because they have
experiences to be entrepreneurs.
Before the school festival, students can practice sports and prepare the
decorations for the stalls. Every one is happy participating in the school
festival.

My school has many facilities who can makes us more comfortable
with that facilities. First facilities, there are classroom for study, library,
science lab, computer lab and language lab. for second facilities there
are mosque, canteen, medical clinic, playground, gym, parking area and
rest room. also has another facilities are internet, wi-fi and air
conditioner. My school also has many extracurriculars such as volley
ball, football, basketball, art and drawing, computer learning, scout, etc.
Teachers in my school are friendly and they always help us when we
find a difficulties thing for studying.
They are very good to their students. I also like borrow many books
in the library who can helps me for studying or just read the interesting
books with my friends when we have a leisure time. In the library I
usually share what have I studied with the librarian because the
librarian so friendly. In my school all of students must keep cleaning of
their class. So, if after class is finished, all of students in my school
always clean their classroom before they go home or continue their
extracurricular activities.
