influence you?
Since the beginning, family, peers, and society
have had a significant and profound influence. They

characteristics, as well as taught me how to mingle and
deal with change. The three key influences in my life
have always made me crave for and welcome new
experiences.

groups identified as the most influential to your personal
growth?
Family, being a social group, is the primary factor
that is most influential to my personal growth as they
offer me with our first set of values, conventions, and
beliefs by providing us with a set of guidelines. From
the moment that we are born, our families have always
been there for us through thick and thin.
3. Who/ what group(s) is/are less influential to you?
4. What do you think is the primary factor of the social
groups identified as the less influential to your personal
growth?
My internet friends would the social group that is
less influential to me. Internet friends coming from
social media platforms can improve an individual’s
confidence, but on the other hand, they can ruin one's
self-esteem.
5. Are there groups that are connected with each other?
What are they?
Absolutely, yes! My internet friends as well as my
barkada are connected with each other. Both of these
social groups in my life have contributed significant
lessons such as connectivity and respect. On the other
hand, God and my family establish a connection
together, as well. In fact, without the Almighty’s
guidance, my family could have never been existed in
the first place. Subsequently, family conforms to God’s
guidance.

In your activity notebook, write a one paragraph essay
how your involvement and participation in different types
of social groups influence your thoughts, attitudes, values
and behavior.
Whether we are at home, school, the playground,
or at work, we engage and interact with other people;
thus, socialization is established among millions and
billions of individuals across countries and nations. As
a matter of fact, little did we know that the people that
surround us became a huge part of how we act and
what we value in life. Family, being a primary group, is
an agent of socialization that immensely impacted my
thoughts, attitudes, values, and behavior as a daughter
with two younger siblings. Since the day that I was
born, my own parents have taken care of me—teaching
me how to read, write, and count as well as providing
me the assistance to bring realization with regards to
the importance of life such as moral values. My family
is a social group that broadens my life experiences, and
the involvement of the aspects radically alters me.
Answer the processed questions cited in the basic
block list. Write your answer in your activity notebook.
1. What is a social group?
A social group is a group of people who have
relationships with one another that make them
interdependent in some way. Within social groupings,
interdependence is a necessary condition because it
allows members to work toward common goals, values,
and beliefs. It distinguishes a social group from an
aggregation, or simply a collection of people in a
specific location and time. Social groups include the
primary group, secondary group, in-group, out-group,
reference group, and network group.
The Primary Group is a small, intimate, and less
specialized group in which members engage in long-
term emotion-based interaction and interdependence,
whereas the Secondary Group is a larger, less intimate,
and more specialized group in which members engage
in short-term objective-oriented relationships. There's
also the In-group and Out-group to consider. An in-
group is a group to which a person belongs and with
which he or she feels a sense of identification, whereas
an out-group is a group to which a person does not
belong and may feel hatred.
The Reference Group is a group that has a
significant impact on an individual's beliefs, values,
behavior, and attitude, whereas the Network Group is a
relationship structure that has interconnections, ties,
and linkages between people, their groups, and the
larger social institutions to which they all belong. All in
all, social groups are those people that may be present
in your lives such as your Facebook friends, family,
favorite sports team, and friends.
2. What are some of your reference group? Why did you
prefer these as your reference group?
Some of my normative reference groups include
teachers, peers, siblings, parents, and friends while my
comparative reference which teaches me to strive to be
a better person are celebrities such as HoYeon Jung as
Kang Sae-byeok from my ultimate series film, Squid
Game. I prefer all of them as my reference group as
these agents of socialization have impacted my lives
immensely as they partake a significant role in my life.
Family, for instance, greatly influences how I perceive
things in life, being a primary group in the social world.
3. What are the in-groups and out-groups? Explain the
relationship between them as well as the different factors
that determine the social dynamics within each group?
An in-group is a social group to which a person
mentally recognizes as somewhat of a member in
sociology and social psychology. An out-group, on the
other hand, is a social group with which a person does
not identify. People may identify with their peers,
families, communities, sports teams, political parties,
gender, religion, or nation, for example. The
psychological membership of social groups and
categories has been discovered to be linked to a wide
range of occurrences.
People may harm persons they consider to be
members of an out-group in ways they would not harm
members of their own group. For example, one study
found that soccer supporters felt empathy when they
saw fans of their own team being mistreated. They were
ecstatic, though, when they saw fans of a rival side
being wounded in the same way. Similarly, based on in-
group and out-group distinctions, people tend to form
different moral judgments. When a member of our in-
group misbehaves, our natural instinct is to downplay
the incident as minor. When someone in our out-group
performs the same thing, however, we are more likely
to judge the action adversely.
In conclusion, we are more inclined to damage one
another and act unethically when automatic in-group
and out-group divisions replace conscious and
thoughtful consideration.
4. What is the difference between primary and secondary
group?
A primary group is made up of people who have
intimate, personal relationships with one another.
Within a core group, there is often a communal sense
of identity that substitutes the individuality that
people often feel in other groups. Primary group
members have strong emotional and personal bonds.
Primary groups are typically limited in size, with no
more than a half-dozen members. They play an
important role in socialization, the process through
which people learn about their society's rules and
values. Primary group members are not
interchangeable. Family and close friendship groups are
common examples of primary groups.
On the other hand, people in a secondary group
have impersonal relationships and work together to
attain a common purpose. People join secondary
groupings with a specific goal in mind. Secondary
groups are bigger than primary groups, and
communicating with other members may be more
difficult. They also have a role in socializing, though to
a lesser extent than core groups. A group of employees,
a classroom of pupils, a scout troop, or an athletic
team are examples of secondary groups. Secondary
group members can sometimes merge to form a
primary group. People who meet at work, for example,
may become close friends or marry and start a family.
The characteristics of Primary Groups include the
following: relatively small, members have close
relationships, stronger sense of collective group
identity, based on emotional or intimate connections,
and members are not interchangeable. However, the
characteristics of Secondary Groups vary in size,
include impersonal relationships, can include only
weak social ties, based on a goal, event, or interest,
often exist for a limited time period, and people choose
to belong to them.
5. What is network group? Describe its value and relevance
to socialization.
The way people establish and interact with social
networks has been influenced by the Internet. Those
can interact with personal friends and family on social
media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, as well as
people who have similar political and social beliefs.
People who are connected through social media may
not interact frequently or be intimately involved in
each other's lives. These weak social links, on the other
hand, serve to build powerful networks of individuals
who collaborate to achieve goals or form strong social
groups.
As a matter of fact, a network group is a type of
relationship structure that includes interconnections,
relationships, and linkages between individuals, groups,
and the larger social institutions to which they all
belong. The network society is described as a social
formation with a social and media network
infrastructure that enables its primary method of
organization at all levels (individual, group,
organizational and societal). These networks are
increasingly connecting all units or components of this
organization.
Furthermore, the system of relationships that has
interconnections, affiliations, and linkages between
people, their groups, and the larger social institutions
to which they all belong is referred to as a network
group.
Do what is asked and write your answer in your
activity notebook.
1. Explain your personal observations regarding the
relationship among members of your own preferred group?
The social group that I certainly prefer among the
others is my own circle of friends or barkada—in
Filipino language. Due to the fact that I do not get
enough affection from my family and relatives, I get to
confess my true feelings when I am with my closest
friends. We call our bond as The Asays Fam wherein
food became the foundation of our friendship.
The Asays Fam includes me, Lind Say, Genevieve
Shaina, Jeaster Nikko, Lorie Jean, Jiandro, Shanice,
Jazzel, Sheila, and Mary Rose. The establishment of
our strong connection began from 9th grade and until
now that we are in 12th grade. Our love and compassion
from each other are inseparable as we never hesitate to
share our feelings towards one another. Every time we
have personal problems, we tell the others, we listen,
and give the best advices that we have. Most
importantly, I could never ever forget how many times
we shared our laughs, cries, and angry moments
together. Although there are episodes where
misunderstandings arise, dilemmas will be immediately
resolved in no time. Some of my friends are enrolled in
different schools but it was not a hindrance to pursue
our friendship.
I have noticed that throughout the years of our
relationship as friends, we never keep secrets and that
is what makes us all stronger and together forever. If
we have something to say, even if it involves a
sensitive subject matter, we are extremely open for it.
Jiandro, for example, is a best friend of mine since 8th
grade and he is struggling with his own personal
problems such as his family and financial ones. I try
my best to help him and provide assistance such as
food and money. One thing that I really like about my
friends is how influential they are to me in terms of
academics. I remembered during 10th grade when
Ma’am Case—our Filipino teacher will have a 100-item
quiz with us on that day. We studied together, and now,
here we are.
My friends and I have varying perspectives in life.
However, interdependence is a condition that exists
within our groups.
2. Evaluate the impact of social media on the existing
groups in society?
The advancement of technologies led to the rise of
thousands and millions of online platforms that can be
installed and downloaded from the Google Play Store
for Android users and the Apple Store for iOS users.
Social Media, in fact, took over humanity with regards
to communication. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter,
Telegram and Snapchat are the popular social media
platforms that today’s generation utilizes. The
existence of social media has been debated by
researches overtime. Is it really advantageous or
disadvantageous to society along with its social
groups?
A social group is a group of people who have
relationships with one another that make them
interdependent to some extent. I do believe that the
impact of social media greatly influences the minds of
every living being. Its emergence made communication
a lot faster, convenient and better. Politics, authorities
and even activists are now able to spread awareness
regarding serious issues about the environment or
health. Social Media allows people to communicate
with people who live far away. It allows people to share
entertaining, educational, and entertaining
information.
Social media may have a significant impact on
society in both positive and negative ways. It facilitates
communication between people who are separated by a
large distance. It can also assist raise or deplete one's
self-confidence. The impacts of using social media are
determined by the user's ability to deal with the events
that may arise. Although we find social media as a
room for more learning, it was a blessing in disguise,
after all.
