PREPOSION –

• Preposition बना है दो शब्द से मिलकर , Pre और Position.

Pre का ितलब होता है पहले, और Position का ितलब होता है जगह |

• ककसी जगह पर पहले आने वाले words को Preposition कहते है |


• ऐसे शब्द जो noun या pronoun का sentence के दस
ु रे शब्द से relation
बतायें |
• Preposition तीन चीजो पर काि करती है
1. Direction
2. Time
3. Place / location

• जो भी टाइि हि घडी िें दे खते हैं उसके हिेशा “AT” साथ लगता है I

EXP. -
• The class will be held [on] Monday.
• The first Olympic games held [ in ] 1924.
• My teacher said “ I will see you [at] 3’O clock.
• I started to prepare for my exams [in] august.
• The school will remain closed [on] Saturday.
• The play will be started [at] 2:30 pm.
• My father is going to come [on] 3rd june.
• Tata motors launched ‘Nano car’ [IN] 2003.

PREPOSITION OF PLACE

जो ककसी जगह को बताने के मलए इस्तेिाल ककए जाते है I


IN – ‘ IN ’ का इस्तिाल तब करें गे जब आप ककसी जगह बैठे हो या वो जगह चारो
तरफ से कवर हो I

या कोई चीज रखी हो और वो चारो तरफ से कवर हो I

ककसी बहुत बडी जगह के मलए जैसे- ददल्ली, िुुंबई I

AT – AT का इस्तिाल हि Exact location बताने के मलए करते हैं I

जैसे- ददल्ली का कनॉट प्लेस, िुुंबई का िरीन ड्राइव I

EXP-
I am [at] Chandni chowk.
I am [at] India gate.
I am [at] marine drive.

Preposition of place
EXP. –
• I am [at] canteen [in] the school.
• They live [at] Rajan Enclave [in] Calcutta.
• The watchman is standing [at] the main gate.
• She is sitting [in] the car.
• The buses are coming [at] the bus stop.
• We met [at] the coffee shop.
• He is having his food [in] his office.
• The are celebrating his birthday [at] the India gate.

Uses of ON - ककसी Surface पर जब कोई चीज़ होती है वहाुं पर हि ‘ON’ लगIते हैंI

Exp. –
• What is [on] the table ?
• He is [on] the roof.
• I live [on] the 3rd floor of the building.

WITH –

1. SENSATION सुंवेदना
2. FEELINGS भावना - जब हि ककसी और के मलए अपनी feelings को दीखाते
हैं तब हि के with का इस्तिाल करते हैं I

Exp. –
• I am happy [with] him.
• My father is furious [with] me.
• I am very upset [with] my life.

• Exceptions – with नहीुं लगाते

Rude - to

3 Tools [औज़ार] से पहले - जजस औज़ार की िदद से हि करते हैं उससे पहले
हि with का इस्तिाल करें गे I
Exp. –

• He killed him [with] knife.

4 Possession – Like [Have] जब कोई चीज पास िें हो या साथ िें हो तब हि


‘with’ का इस्तेिाल करते हैंI
Exp. –
• I want a home [with] a garden.
• We want a life [with] happiness.
• I want to pass [with] good marks.

BY - काि करने के तरीके को बताने के मलए

• I am talking [by] phone.


• Send this letter [by] post.

Difference
By With

Means तरीका - Tools औज़ार

1. Travel
• I go to school [by] bus.
• He comes from Delhi [by] bus.

2. Doer [करने वाला]

3. Next to / beside
• My school is situated [by] my home.
• He is standing [by] me.

4. Deadline
• You can submit your form [by] 31 st August.
• I want this file [by] Monday.

TO
जब कोई भी चीज़

1. Direction दीखाने के मलए

ककसी चीज़ की तरफ़ आती है उसकी ददशा बताने के मलए, तब हि ‘To’ का


इस्तिाल करते हैं I

Exp. –
• I am going [to] school.
• We are going [to] home.
• She is coming [to] me.
• She is giving money [to] him.
• Rakesh is going [to] Londan.
• We are heading [to] the entrance of the building.

2. As an infinitive – Purpose [ िकसद ]

कोई भी Action verb [main verb] होती है उससे पहले ‘To’ लग जाता है I

Exp. –
• He wants [to] meet you.
• They come here [to] play.
• We earn [to] live.

3. कोई Limit / Ending point या Period


Exp. –
• The petrol prices rose up [to] 80 rs.
• We work 9 to 6, Monday [to] Saturday.

FROM –

‘Origin’ को ददखाने के मलए

Exp. –
• This bus travels [from] Mumbai to Goa.
• Where are you [from]?
• I am [from] Delhi.
• This letter is [from] the principal.

Cause’ [कIरण] बताने के मलए

Exp. –
• He died [from] heart attack.
• She is suffering [from] fever.
• Unfortunately, even in 21st century people die [from] hunger.

OVER –

ककसी ऊुंची चीज़ को ददखाने के मलए

Exp. –
• A beautiful white bird is flying [over] the lake.
• With an umbrella [over] my head. I was able to protect myself from the
sun.

कोई चीज़ cover कर रही हो या contact िें हो

Exp. –
• I put my hands [over] 2 million votes.
• He puts the blanket [over] his body.

ककसी number, age या amount बताने के मलए

Exp. –
• He won the election with [over] 2 million votes.
• [Over] 50% of the company shares are owned by the govt.

ABOVE –

Higher level को ददखाने के मलए

जो contact या touch िें न हो

Exp. –
• His house is situated [above] the sea level.
• Can you raise your hand [above] your head?

Temperature बताने के मलए

Exp. –
The temperature of Delhi is [above] 450 C.

UNDER –

Cover हो रही चीज़ के नीचे बताने के मलए

Exp.-
• The cat is [under] the table.
BELOW

बबल्कुल नीचे बताने के मलए


EXP. –
• There was a big box [below] the painting.
• You may read the point referred [below].

Exp. –
• He has lived here [since] 1985.
• I have been suffering from fever [since] midnight.
• It has been raining [since] 8’O clock.

Uses of since – To show reason.


Exp. –
• [Since] he was ill, he did not attend my birthday party.
• [Since] I was poor, I had to sacrifice.

Uses of FOR –
1. Denotes who is intended to have or use something.
जब आपके मलए कोई चीज़ होती है जजस पर आपका अधिकार हो I

Exp. –
• My life is [for] my country.

2. Exchange of something
जब हि दनु नया की कुछ भी चीज़ exchange करने की बात करते है
Exp. –
• I will give you my phone [for] 1 like.
• These books are available [for] 100rs each.
3. Considering what can be expected from somebody / something.

Exp. –
• That’s too much work [for] you.
• You are bad [for] a beginner.
• You are tall [for] your age.

UNTIL –
कोई ऐसी situation या event [अवसर] जजसिे कोई काि चल रहा है या चलता
रहे गा I

[ ककसी ननजचचत सिय के मलए Fixed time तक ]

Exp. –
• I will love you until my death.
• She worked until 5’ O clock.
• You can sleep until morning.
• You can use my phone until 8’ O clock.

Prepositions of Direction/Movement
These prepositions show movement or direction.
• To (की ओर)

o Example: She is going to the market. (वह बाजार की ओर जा रही है ।)

• Into (के अंदर)

o Example: He walked into the room. (वह कमरे में घुसा।)

• Onto (के ऊपर)

o Example: The cat jumped onto the table. (बबल्ली मेज़ के ऊपर कूद
गई।)

• From (से)

o Example: He came from the office. (वह दफ्तर से आया।)

• Across (के पार)

o Example: They walked across the bridge. (वे पुल के पार चले गए।)

• Through (के माध्यम से)

o Example: The car passed through the tunnel. (गाड़ी सुरंग के माध्यम से
निकली।)

Prepositions of Manner
These prepositions describe how something happens.

• By (के द्वारा)

o Example: The letter was sent by post. (पत्र डाक के द्वारा भेजा गया।)

• With (के साथ)

o Example: She came with her friend. (वह अपिे दोस्त के साथ आई।)
• Without (बबिा)

o Example: I can't live without you. (मैं तुम्हारे बबिा िहीं ज़ी सकता।)

Prepositions of Agent
These prepositions refer to the doer of the action.

• By (के द्वारा)

o Example: The song was sung by the singer. (गािा गायक के द्वारा गाया
गया।)

Prepositions of Possession
These prepositions show possession or ownership.

• Of (का, के)

o Example: The color of the car is red. (कार का रं ग लाल है ।)

Prepositions of Comparison
These prepositions are used to compare things.

• Than (से)

o Example: He is taller than his brother. (वह अपिे भाई से लंबा है ।)

Prepositions of Accompaniment
These prepositions show association or accompaniment.

• With (के साथ)

o Example: I went to the park with my friend. (मैं अपिे दोस्त के साथ
पाकक गया।)

Prepositions of Instrument
These prepositions show the instrument or means by which an action is
performed.

• With (से)

o Example: She cut the paper with scissors. (उसिे कैं च़ी से कागज़ काटा।)
