The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship (GOI-IES) programme 2025

Each year, 60 scholarships are awarded to international students who demonstrate academic
excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to global engagement. This prestigious initiative
offers scholarships to outstanding international candidates for one year of full-time study at NFQ
levels 9 or 10 (master’s, postgraduate diploma, or PhD) in Ireland.

Scholarship Awardees will receive:

✓ €10,000 stipend for one year of full-time study.


✓ Full tuition fee waiver from their host higher education institution.

Eligibility Criteria

✓ Applicants should first apply to their chosen higher education programme and secure an
admission offer (conditional or unconditional) before submitting their GOI-IES application.
✓ Residency Requirement: Be domiciled outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland, and the United
Kingdom.
✓ Programme Admission: Hold a conditional or final offer of admission to a full-time Level 9
(postgraduate programme)
✓ Previous Scholarships: Not have previously received a GOI-IES scholarship.
✓ Nationality Restrictions: Due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Russian and Belarusian
nationals are not eligible.

How to Apply

✓ Applications must be submitted via the online portal before the March 5th deadline with:
✓ Two references uploaded through the portal.
✓ A carefully prepared application demonstrating academic excellence and alignment with the
scholarship goals.

Evaluation and Assessment

✓ Academic Achievement: Outstanding records in previous studies.


✓ Communication Skills: Ability to articulate goals and plans.
✓ Extracurricular Engagement: Participation in activities such as humanitarian work, arts,
sports, or politics.
✓ Study Rationale: A compelling explanation of how studying in Ireland supports long-term
aspirations.

✓ Application Deadline: 5:00 PM (Irish time), March 5, 2025


✓ Awards Announced: Early June 2025
