SUBJECT : SCIENCE
Class : VIII Time Allowed : 2 ½ Hours Maximum Marks: 80
General Instructions :
⮚ This question paper comprises separate sections for Physics, Chemistry
and Biology.
⮚ All questions are compulsory.
⮚ Physics, Chemistry and Biology have three sections each : Section - A,
Section -B and Section - C.
⮚ Section – A: Questions are multiple choice questions/case based
questions/assertion - reason questions, carrying 1 mark each.
⮚ Section – B: Questions are short answer questions, carrying 3 marks each.
⮚ Section – C: Questions are long answer questions, carrying 5 marks each.
⮚ There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided
in some questions. A student must attempt only one of the alternatives in such
questions.
⮚ Wherever necessary, neat and properly labelled diagrams should be
drawn.

When plants of the same kind are cultivated at one place on a large scale, it is called a
crop. Crops can be classified on the basis of the season in which they grow. The climatic
conditions like temperature, humidity and rainfall vary from one region to another.
Accordingly, there is a rich variety of crops grown in different parts of the country. Despite
this diversity, two broad cropping patterns can be identified. These are: (i) Kharif Crops:
The crops which are sown in the rainy season are called kharif crops. The rainy season in
India is generally from June to September. Paddy, maize, soyabean, ground nut and
cotton are kharif crops. (ii) Rabi Crops: The crops grown in the winter season (October to
March) are called rabi crops. Examples of rabi crops are wheat, gram, pea, mustard and
linseed. Besides these, pulses and vegetables are grown during summer at many places.
