SUGGESTED SOLUTION

1. (a) √3/√2
2. (c) At sunrise, the Sun is seen in the sky even though it is still below the horizon.
3. (b) HCl
4. (c) Reaction P is an example of a combination reaction, while reaction Q is an example of
a decomposition reaction
5. (a) X = Fe, Y = Fe2O3

18. (a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
19. (b) Both ‘A’ and ‘R’ are true but ‘R’ is not correct explanation of the Assertion.
20. (d) ‘A’ is false but ‘R’ is true.
21. Type of lens =convex lens
● Here u=-4cm;v=?;f=6cm ; h1 = 0.5 cm
● ∴1/f=1/v-1/u⇒v=-12cm
● h2/h1=v/u⇒h2=1.5cm
22. (A) Bulb P & R will glow with more brightness while bulb Q will not glow. The current will
flow through the additional wire that connects the points L and M (avoiding the bulb Q) as
it offers a path of least/lower resistance as compared with the bulb thereby showing short
circuit. So the bulb Q will not glow.
OR
22. (B) (i) Bulbs in parallel provide more illumination. This is because
(a) each bulb gets the same voltage and is equal to the applied voltage.
(b) each bulb draws required current from the mains. Hence, they work properly.
(ii) When one bulb in each circuit gets fused, In series: Rest of the bulbs will not glow.
This is because in series arrangement, there is only a single path for the flow of current.
In parallel: Rest of the bulbs will continue to glow as in parallel connection,
(a) individual branch in the circuit completes its own circuit, or
(b) different paths are available for the flow of current.
23. (i) A is calcium oxide, CaO which is used for whitewashing.
B is calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2.
24.

OR
24. Arteries have thick walls to tolerate the high pressure of oxygenated blood pumped by
the heart where as veins have thin walls as they carry deoxygenated blood collected from
various body parts without any pressure.
Unlike arteries, veins contain valves that ensure blood flows in only one direction.
Arteries don't require valves because pressure from the heart is so strong that blood is
only able to flow in one direction.
25. Breathing occurs through respiratory organs, including the nose, lungs, etc. Respiration
takes place in cells and cell organelles, including mitochondria, etc.
Breathing and cellular respiration are two different processes and cannot be used
interchangeably.
26. (i) Aquatic (ii) Abiotic (iii) Non- living (iv) Living
(v) An ecosystem includes all the living things (plants, animals and organisms) in a given
area, interacting with each other, and with their non-living environments (weather, earth,
sun, soil, climate, atmosphere).
In an ecosystem, each organism has its own niche or role to play.
27.
● Dispersion of white light
● Yellow light
● Newton was the first to use a glass prism to obtain the spectrum of a white light. He then
placed a second identical prism in an inverted position with respect to the first prism. This
allowed all the colours of the white light to pass through the second prism combining to
form a white light emerging from the other side of the second prism. This made him
believe that white light was composed of different colours.

28. P1 = 1000 W = 1kW, t1= 5h,

P2 = 400 W = 400 /1000 kW = 0.4KW, t2 = 10h
No. of days in September, n = 30
E1 =P1 × t1 × n = 1 kW × 5h × 30 = 150 kWh
E2 =P2 × t2 × n = 0.4kW x 10h x 30 = 120kWh
‫؞‬ Total energy = (150 + 120) kWh = 270 kWh
so Total cost = 270 x 6 = Rs. 1620/-
29.
● At A ,the curling of the finger outward (out of the plane of the paper); At B the curling of
finger is inward(into the plane of the paper).
● The above direction is as per the Right hand thumb rule.
● Statement-The right hand thumb rule states that if we hold a straight current carrying
conductor with our right hand such that the thumb points in the direction of the current,
then the curled fingers indicate the direction of the magnetic field lines.

30. (A) (i) G is Cl2 and C is CaOCl2.

(iii) Common name of C is bleaching powder. Its chemical name is calcium oxychloride.
OR
30. (B) Salt used to make tasty and crispy fritters is sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3)
On large scale, sodium bicarbonate is prepared as:

Two uses of sodium bicarbonate are as follows:

(i) It is used as an antacid in medicines.
(ii) It is used as an additive in food and drinks.

31. (a) Due to strong forces of attraction, the ions are bounded to each other very firmly. So
large amount of energy is required to break the bond. As a result, the electrovalent or
ionic solids have high melting and boiling points.
(b) Sodium is highly reactive metal. If it is kept in open it can explosively react with
oxygen and catch fire.
(c) The reduction of metal oxides to metal is easier than the reduction of metal sulphides
and metal carbonates. Hence, these are first reduced to their corresponding metal
oxides.

32. Urine is composed of multiple components. Water - 95%, Urea - 2%, Creatinine - 0.1%,
Potassium - 0.6%,
Sodium - 0.1%, Chloride - 0.6%. Pigments, hormones, metabolites, and amino acids also
make up a small
portion of urine.
Proteins and glucose are not present in urine as they get filtered in the kidneys.
The amount of urine produced depends on how much excess water is present in the body
and how much of
dissolved wastes are to be excreted.
33. The information strongly suggests that:
• Chromosome A represents the X chromosome, as the presence of an X chromosome is
typically associated with female offspring in organisms with a sex-determination system
where XX is female.
• Chromosome B would represent the X chromosome as well, since the combination B (X)
with D (also X) would create a female zygote (XX).
• Chromosome C must represent the Y chromosome, since the combination of B (X) with
E (Y) yields a male zygote (XY).
34. (A) Factors Affecting Resistance include material, length, cross-sectional area, and
temperature.

OR

OR
34. (B)
● (a) The net resistance is:
R1 + {(R2R3 ) / (R2+R3)} + R4 = 15+{(30x15)/(15+30)} + 15
= 15 + 10 + 15 ; R = 40 Ω

● Voltage drop across R4 = Net current x R4

Total current = V/R= 20/40 = 0.5 A
Power drop across R4 = 0.5 x 15= 7.5 V

● Power dissipated by the resistor R1 is given by:

I = V/R = 20/40; I = 0.5 A ; ∴ P = I2R1
Power = (0.5)2 x 15 = 3.75 W
● Net current will decrease because R3 is connected in parallel and removing it will
increase the net resistance in the circuit thereby reducing the net current.

35. (A) Ethanol reacts with sodium to form sodium ethoxide and hydrogen gas is liberated
which burns with a pop sound.

Thus, compound X is ethanol and gas Y is hydrogen gas.

Ethene CH2=CH2
OR
35. (B) (a) Pentanol and C5H11OH
(b) (i)Aldehyde (ii)Carboxylic acid
(c) (i) 2,2-Dimethyl propane (ii) Propanone

36. (A) (i) X- vegetative propagation.

(ii) It helps in preservation of characters of the plants through successive generation.
• Seedless plants can be grown through vegetative reproduction. Through cutting and
grafting methods, flowers and fruits can be grown in a shorter time.
• It is cheaper, easier and more rapid method of plant propagation.
(iii) Banana, Jasmine
OR
36. (B) (i) Part P is ovule, in flowering plants it contains embryo sac. When the flower
changes into fruit after fertilization, the ovule transforms into seeds, which grow and
produce new plant. Fertilization between the egg cell and the male gamete is impossible
without ovule, and due to this there will be no seed formation.
(ii) The reproductive parts of angiosperms are stamen and carpels and are located in the
flower.
(iii) The pistil is a plant's female part. It generally is shaped like a bowling pin and is
located in the flower's center. It consists of a stigma, style and ovary. The stigma is
located at the top and is connected by the style to the ovary.

37. 1.Sunlight is focussed at the principal focus (F) of the concave mirror.focus is the point
where light rays originating from a point on the object converge.
2. When the object is moved from beyond the focal point to within the focal point, the image
transitions from being real, inverted, and diminished to being virtual, upright, and magnified.
This demonstrates the different types of image formations by a concave mirror based on
the object’s position relative to the focal point.Ray Diagram when object is (i) b/n C&F &
when object is beyond F.
3. u=-160 cm ; v=-160 cm ; f=-80 cm as object is at C ;its image is also at C And C=2f
OR
3. The activity cannot be performed by using a convex mirror because convex mirror
diverges the incident light beam and forms a virtual image which cannot be obtained on
the paper sheet.

38. (a)

(b) 13

(c) Unsaturated compounds decolourise the red-brown colour of bromine water whereas
saturated colour does not decolourise bromine water solution.

39. (a) Generally there are 6 types of tropism namely phototropism, geotropism,
chemotropism, thigmotropism,
thermotropism and hydrotropism.
(b) It does not show any tropism but it is an example of thigmonastic movement.
(c) The bending of plant towards light is known as phototropism. It is due to plant
hormone auxins. When the growing parts of a phototropic plant detect sunlight, auxins
(synthesized at the shoot tips) help the cells grow longer.
OR
(c) The part of the tendril in contact with the support doesn't grow as fast as other parts.
So, it coils around the support with the help of plant hormone called Auxin. It helps the
tendril to coil around the support.
