Philosophy
Philosophy is a set of beliefs that serves as the guiding principle for educational
systems. It establishes a framework within which an academic institution's authority can
address both fundamental and pervasive issues and problems that will arise as the
school continues to strive for academic excellence and progresses toward providing
quality education.
A school's philosophy serves as a vehicle for instilling in students a thorough
understanding of what path to take in life and how to live morally with others. It teaches
students about their responsibilities and inspires them to live a responsible and service-
oriented life.
To uphold society, University of Batangas went to great lengths to lead in the formation
of young generations, preparing them to be effective components in the construction of
a better family, community, and nation, and a better world. Because the university
believes in the intellectual capabilities of the human person, it is UB's responsibility to
form students in order to help them develop their knowledge, values, and skills in order
to become assets to their community. UB recognizes it as her responsibility to equip her
students with the necessary knowledge and skills to overcome any obstacles that may
arise.

Vision
A vision statement is a concise description of an institution's goal that serves as an
inspiration and portrays a clear picture of what the organization desires to accomplish.
To ensure that UB students receive the quality education possible, the university is
constantly upgrading its educational system to ensure that its courses are responsive to
the needs of various industries in the country and around the world. By doing so, the
University of Batangas is guaranteeing that its graduates are able to find jobs that allow
them to be effective while also being comfortable, owing to the formation accorded to
them by the institution.
In its desire to improve its services for the betterment of the students’ formation, UB has
gone through various stages of development, which includes the improvement of
physical facilities, its services, and the educational formation that she would render to
the youths that are in her maternal care. UB has undergone several stages of academic
improvements in order to make herself and her graduates globally competitive.
The University's efforts to undergo numerous transformations and development were
solely for the purpose of raising awareness about UB's noble role in the reconstruction
of Philippine society. Its purpose is to educate students about the needs of the society.
Thus, in the reconstruction of the society, UB teaches its students to understand the
needs of society and to develop the ability to meet those needs.

Mission
A The mission of an institution serves as an illustration of an endeavor and an
expression of the organization's purpose. Also, it serves as a guide for the organization
by defining the organization's overall objective. Moreover, it explains the direction and
decision-making processes that must occur at all levels of management for the benefit
of the students.
UB has always adapted to changing circumstances. Aware of the country's economic
and political situation, the administrators desire to collaborate with the Filipino people in
preparing the youth for a better future. The University of Batangas believes that there is
no better way to prepare the youth for the future than to provide them with a quality
education. By quality education, it means the kind of education that equips students for
their future and develops their competence in their chosen fields.
As part of the student's formation, the university upholds professional development and
prepares the individual to participate in a global, technology, and research-driven
environment. Students are prepared to conduct research that benefits the community
and society. Knowledge of research enables students to develop a thorough
understanding of society's needs and the reasons for the necessity of research in order
to solve specific problems. Similarly, UB molds its students to become morally upright
and responsible citizens whose concern for the community is evident in their desire to
conduct research on topics that will benefit the school or the community.

Goals
The University of Batangas seeks continuous improvement in order to maintain its
identity as the University of Choice. After achieving one goal, UB will set its sights on
another. This is demonstrated by the numerous awards that UB has received from
various accrediting agencies. Upon achieving success in accreditations, UB continues
to strive for additional achievements because UB has always endeavored to provide the
best for its students.
UB provides a vehicle for a person's spiritual and moral development. UB places a high
value on its students. Each student at the university is given serious attention due to the
belief that each individual is inviolable and sacred. This will be ensured by
providing students with formative activities that will allow them to demonstrate their own
character and dignity; thus, the creation of this course – The UB Core Values.
It has always been UB's hope that students will recognize the importance of
reconstructing the society in order to achieve full development. By educating students
about the country's current economic, social, political, and moral state, the university
aims to instill in them a sense of patriotism and social responsiveness. They should
realize that they have a responsibility to contribute to the country's development.
To foster students' consciousness of their duties and responsibilities in nation-building,
the University is being introduced to economic situation of the country in relation to the
region as well as in the international environment. To cope with global demands,
students are being formed so that they can be capable of taking part in the international
market.
Meaning of UB Hymn
THE MARCH IS ON
the year 1946 were everything was in shambles, the 6 hopeful young men were not
bothered by the political and economic situation of the time
The march towards a better Philippines began upon the establishment of the WPC.

NO BRAIN NOR BRAWN CAN BLOCK THE WAY OF UB MEN

Most of the people think that it would be ridiculous to establish a school during that time
Because of the intention and desire of Mr. Juan Y Javier and Atty. Jesus Arguelles in
putiing up an educational institution, the other founder joined them barely.

LOUD RING THE CRY OF GRIM DEFY OF HARD ATTACK LET LOOSE AGAIN
Challenged by all odds, the six founders pulled out all their resources, both financial and
intellectual, to draw a plan for a school that will fulfill the dreams of the young
batanguenos
They held another battle to fought and have to face the biggest challenge: how to rise
up from

O ‘TIS THE HIKE, HIKE, HIKE FOR VICTORY THE CALL TO RISE AND STRIDE
The road to success was yet dark and dreary. The founders knew that it would be a
great task to accomplish their goal. But, the founders believe that success could be
possible if the young people would be properly educated.

FOR THE UB MEN ARE MARCHING WHEN THEY HEAR HIKE, HIKE, HIKE!
From 48 students who were the first to respond to the call of the founders to march
towards success, WPC took the first step of the tedious journey.
The great passion of the founders in educating the youth and their faith to the divine
providence became a great formula for the growth of an ordinary

HARK TO THE CHEERINGS SONGS RISING HIGH

The administrators of the University are trying to re-echo the heed of the founders to the
young Batanguenos, that they should become the true hope of the country. The hope of
the founders to rebuild the nation through education for they were the foundation of the
better society.

HARK TO THE ROAR AS THE RANKS GO MARCHING BY.

WPC produced many successful souls and the voice of those who received a good
education were echoing in many parts of the world like in political arena, academic
communities, in business world and any other professions.

SHOULDER TO SHOULDER CHANTING HER GLORIOUS NAME.

The founders tried their best to create a community within WPC. They taught the
students to work hand-in-hand in order to achieve their goal and taught to always carry
their alma matter through their works and attitude

BORNE HIGH YOUR FIRE AND CHEER ALONG FOR PHILIPPINES

The founders pictured the WPC students as passionate young individuals whose desire
to rise and excel in their rafts and profession can be manifested by the way they live
their life and serve the country as a person, as a man of god and as a law-abiding
citizen.
They commited themselves to form students who are nationalistic and pariotic.
ELEMENTS OF THE UB (WPC) SEAL
In learning the history of WPC, it can be understood that the founders, specifically, Fr.
Vicente R. Catapang, who was the main author of the orchestration of the academic
offerings of WPC, was also the one who conceptualized the seal of the institution, the
same seal that the University of Batangas currently has.
According to Fr. Catapang, the seal illustrates some broad relationships between mental
development and mental growth.
Inner Circle
It indicates the thirteenth or fourteenth year. At the age of 13 or 14, when the adolescent
is about to enter high school years WPC would be providing the teen-aged individual
the kind of education that would form him not only intellectually and physically but also
socially, morally, and spiritually.
Outer Circle
It represents the culmination of the developmental period which occurs in the twenty-
eighth or thirtieth year. At the age of 28 to 30 years old it would be expected that he/she
would be already reaping the fruit of his/her labor.
Star
The inner circle is a star it narrows to a point as it reaches the culmination of the
developmental series.
Rays
Each of the five rays represents and axis of development along the lie of a
corresponding social inheritance. The base of each ray broadens out until it embraces
the entire development of the child’s pre-adolescent life towards the adolescent stage.
Instituto
It refers to the discipline that WPC provides to its students. Such discipline could be
related not only to the academic but also to moral and social discipline that the
adolescents should learn for them to become good parents who are good citizens and
God-fearing.
Scientia
It refers to the sciences that WPC is offering to the students. WPC, and eventually, UB
was making it a point that they are keeping abreast with the technological
advancements.
Aesthetica
It refers to the arts. By arts, it would not only focus on the visual, literary and performing
arts but it would be focusing greatly on the art of living well. One’s knowledge of arts
should be a means in order to make the students more humane. Therefore, it also
refers to the moral education that UB provides to the students and the focus of the arts
is the art of moral living.
Literae
It refers to the letter WPC aimed to provide the students with an appreciation not only of
the arts but also of the letters. It is understood that literary works are products of the
creative minds who reflected on life and attempt to find reasons for the meaning of
one’s existence. In other words, literature is rooted in philosophy and the students of
WPC were being formed to be reflective about life.
Deus Et Patria
It means “God and Country”. The idea of the founders was that the education that they
should provide to students should develop one’s faith in God and one’s love for country.
The students of WPC must be nation-builders and must be true workers for the
attainment of economic and political development and moral upliftment. These students
must become freedom-lovers and God-fearers, which for the founders, would be the
hallmark of a true Westernian and, eventually, a true UBian
The Philosophy of Education: Its Importance and Different Viewpoints

person.
Early Times
- Education was just primarily for the purpose of security and survival. There was a
need for people to learn not because there was a need to acquire knowledge but
simply because they need to learn the necessary skills in order to exist.
Eventually, people came to use education for a variety of purpose.
Modern Period
- Modern people came to realize hat education may be used not only for survival
but also for better use of leisure time and refinement in social and cultural life. As
the practice of education has developed, so also the philosophers of education.
- SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
- There is a need for the people to realize that the study of the philosophy of
education is very much necessary because people were having difficulty coping
up with change inasmuch as this change were not in the present accelerated
rate. In this sense, philosophy of education becomes important because:

- 1. It provides people with an analysis regarding the use of our ideas in the best
way possible in order to prepare us in facing the future.
2. It helps us recognize the need to think clearly about what we are doing and
how we are taking part in the larger context of individual and social development.
3. To give assessment on the methods of education in order to help us know
whether our methods of education would really lead us towards a meaningful
existence.
4. Human persons are given an inspiration and good insights regarding
educational problems. Such an insight to educational problems can be a means
in order to gain a vital body of knowledge or thought

to the needs and interests of the children.
- Education should focus on the whole child, rather than the content or the teacher.
- As an offshoot of pragmatism, progressivism stressed that students should test
ideas by active experimentation.

produce greater technology, people find it difficult not to cope up with the
premature rival of the future
