I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Identify the different legal, ethical, and societal issues in media and
information.
Analyze the impact of these issues on individuals and society.
Demonstrate responsible digital citizenship through ethical online behavior.
Subtopics:
 Copyright, Fair Use, and Plagiarism
 Netiquette
 Digital Divide, Internet Addiction, and Cyberbullying
 Virtual Self
 Other Emerging Issues (Deepfakes, Online Scams, Misinformation, Privacy
Concerns)

II. PROCEDURE
A. Introduction
1. Motivation:
o a short video clip about cyberbullying, plagiarism, or online scams.
o Ask students:
 What do you think is the issue in the video?
 How does it affect the individuals involved?
 Have you encountered similar situations online?
2. Lesson Connection Discussion

1. Copyright, Fair Use, and Plagiarism


 Copyright protects the rights of creators over their work (books, music, art,
etc.).
 Fair Use allows limited use of copyrighted material for education, research,
and commentary.
 Plagiarism is using someone else’s work without giving credit.
2. Netiquette
 Netiquette is the set of rules for respectful online communication.
 Guidelines include avoiding cyberbullying, using polite language, and fact-
checking before sharing information.
3. Digital Divide, Internet Addiction, and Cyberbullying
 Digital Divide refers to the gap between those who have access to
technology and those who do not.
 Internet Addiction can affect mental health and productivity.
 Cyberbullying involves harassment, threats, or humiliation through digital
platforms.
4. Virtual Self
 Virtual Self is the digital identity we create online.
 The difference between real-life identity and online persona should be
understood to avoid privacy risks and online deception.
5. Other Emerging Issues
 Deepfake technology: AI-generated fake videos that can spread
misinformation.
 Online scams and phishing: Fraudulent attempts to steal personal
information.
 Privacy concerns: The risk of oversharing personal data online.
 Activity: Ask classmates, How can we protect ourselves from these risks?

1. Why is it important to follow ethical guidelines online?

IV. QUIZ & ESSAY
