About the conference:
Preventable genetic condition refers to genetic disorders or birth defects that can be prevented or
minimized through,
1. Genetic Counselling and testing
2. Newborn screening
3. Prenatal testing and diagnosis
4. Medical intervention and treatments
5. Reproductive decision making.
Examples of preventable genetic conditions include:
Thalassemia, Sickle cell Anaemia, Cystic Fibrosis, Lysosomal Storage Disorders, Neural Tube Defects
(Spina Bifida), Down Syndrome, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Haemophilia,
Fragile X syndrome, Congenital Hypothyroidism(CH), Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia(CAH),
Galactosemia, Phenylketonuria (PKU), Maple Syrup Urine Disease, RETT Syndrome, Hereditary Cancer
Syndromes, Marfan Syndrome, Neurofibromatosis type 1&2, Gaucher disease, Pompe disease, Retinitis
pigmentosa and Tuberosclerosis complex.
By awareness, education, and proactive measures, incidence of these conditions can be reduced and
improve the health and well-being of individuals and families.

Places to visit near Tirupattur
Kavalur – Solar Observatory:
The Asia’s biggest solar observatory is Vainu Bappu
Observatory (VBO) is located in the picturesque
neighbourhood of the village of Kavalur in the Javadhu
Hills. Established in the 1970s, VBO hosts the 1m Carl
Zeiss Telescope, the 1.3m J.C. Bhattacharya Telescope
(JCBT) and the 2.3m Vainu Bappu Telescope (VBT).
Prior permission is required to visit the Observatory. A
large variety of deer roam around the observatory.
Jalagamparai Waterfalls:
The Attaru river flows through Yelagiri and the breaks into a
beautiful fall from the mountain rocks.
Yelagiri Hills:
Yelagiri hills is one of the hill stations of Tamil Nadu. Yelagiri
hill top can be reached by a winding ghat road, that has 14
hairpin bends. The seventh hairpin bend is significant, since
it offers the view of the slop of the mountain and the green
forest covering as a carpet of the hill. Punganur Lake which
is an artificial lake made in an are of 56.706 square metres.
Boating on the waters of this lake can be an enchanting
experience.

Tirupathur is connected with major cities in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh. The National
Highways passing through Vaniyambadi are NH 46 (Bangalore–Chennai road) and NH 4 from
Vaniyambadi to Chennai.
