Applied Psychology
Program Duration: Four-Year Bachelor's Degree
History:
This program was established in 1999 and officially began enrolling students in 2000, making it
the first undergraduate program in Applied Psychology in the province. In 2020, it was approved
as a first-class undergraduate program construction site in Hunan Province.
Program Objectives:
To cultivate well-rounded individuals with strong foundations, high competence, and excellent
quality, possessing innovative awareness and practical skills. Graduates will master the
fundamental theories and methods in applied psychology and be equipped with the skills for
professions such as psychological counseling, social work, and human resource management.
They will be prepared to conduct psychological and behavioral science research, provide
psychological education and guidance in various organizations, and carry out personnel
assessment, selection, and training.
Faculty:
The program has 20 faculty members, including 4 senior professors, 10 associate professors, and
6 lecturers. Sixteen faculty members hold doctoral degrees (80%), all under 50 years of age.
Sixteen are master's supervisors, with one recognized as a Hunan Province young backbone
teacher. Over the past five years, faculty members have led 4 national-level projects and over 20
provincial-level projects, publishing over 100 papers in core domestic and international journals
such as Acta Psychologica Sinica, Psychological Science, Psychological Development and
Education, and Criminal Justice and Behavior. The program specializes in fields like educational
psychology, developmental psychology, and health psychology.

Development:
The Applied Psychology program, founded in 2000, is one of the earliest undergraduate
programs of its kind in Hunan Province. It offers a first-level master's degree in Psychology and
a professional master's program in Educational Psychology (Mental Health Education).

The program is supported by a first-level master's degree authorization in Psychology
(one of only three in Hunan Province) and a professional master's degree authorization in
Educational Psychology (Mental Health Education). In 2020, it was designated as a
first-class undergraduate construction program in Hunan Province.
2. Rich Student Practice Platforms:
The program leverages the Applied Psychology Experimental Center and Hunan
University of Science and Technology's Mental Health Education Center for teaching and
research. The psychology experimental center includes multiple labs: Basic Psychology,
Counseling, Sandplay Therapy, Eye-Tracking, ERP, Near-Infrared, Cognitive
Psychology, and Psychological Assessment. In recent years, undergraduates have won
honors in competitions like the "College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Competition," the "Challenge Cup" Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology
Competition, and the National Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Psychology Competition.
Career Prospects:
In recent years, the program's graduate school admission rate has remained stable at over 20%,
with an average employment rate of over 90%. Career paths include:
1. Psychological health education in primary and secondary schools.
2. Psychological training and counseling, social work, and related roles in educational
institutions, government offices, and community organizations.
3. Personnel selection, assessment, training, EAP (Employee Assistance Programs), market
research, and user behavior analysis in various enterprises.
