Objectives;

By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to;

1) Guess the meaning of unfamiliar words from clues provided by other


words and by context on a wide range by matching 12 words to their
meaning

2) Explain and justify own point of view by doing a role play on taking
order and describing food

Pre Lesson

1. Pupils are shown a slide with images of different food items.


2. Pupils are then be asked to take a sticky note and write down one
word that comes to their mind when they see each image.
3. The sticky notes will be collected and stuck on the board.
4. The words given by the pupils will be discussed and how they relate
to the food items shown.

Lesson Delivery

A. Tasting Activity (15 minutes):

1. Five volunteers will be selected to come to the front.


2. Each volunteer is blindfolded.
3. Later, each volunteer is given a different food item to taste.
4. As each food is tasted, the volunteer will be asked to describe its
taste and guess what the food is.
5. The rest of the class will be allowed to guess along with the
volunteers.
6. After each volunteer has tasted and guessed, the correct food item
will be revealed and its taste and characteristics discussed.

B. Vocabulary Matching Activity (20 minutes):

1. The class is then divided into groups of 3.


2. Worksheets with 12 words and their meanings will be distributed.
3. In their groups, pupils will work together to match the words to their
correct meanings.
4. They will be encouraged to discuss and use context clues to
determine the meanings of unfamiliar words.
5. After completing the activity, the answers will be gone over together
as a class, allowing pupils to justify their choices.
C. Role-Play Activity (15 minutes):

1. Each pair of pupils will be provided with a menu card and a role-play
scenario card.
2. One pupil will act as a waiter and the other as a customer.
3. The customer will order food from the menu, while the waiter will
describe the dishes and answer any questions.
4. The use of descriptive adjectives and expressions related to food will
be encouraged.
5. After each pair has performed their role-play, a discussion will be
held with the class about what went well and any areas for
improvement.

5. Post Lesson

1. The key points of the lesson will be summarized.


2. Pupils are asked to list down all the adjective they have learned in
the day’s lesson as exit ticket.
3. The importance of understanding words in context and effective
communication skills, especially when describing food, will be
emphasized.
