Get Traces On QuesCom 300-400

This document provides instructions for obtaining different types of traces from a QuesCom 300/400 system, including general traces, ISDN traces, GSM traces, and Ethernet traces. General traces involve connecting via FTP and downloading all trace files. ISDN traces require activating tracing via telnet and downloading the qisdn.i4b file. GSM traces can be activated temporarily via telnet or persistently by editing configuration files. Ethernet traces involve starting and stopping capture via telnet and downloading cap files via FTP.

Techniicall Documentatiion Techn ca Documentat on 1. General traces

When you meet a problem, QuesCom Support may need to look at general traces to fix it. All traces files are into E:\traces (for 03.50 versions only) or X:\traces (03.51 versions and upper). Caution If you reboot the QuesCom 400 unit before downloading traces, all files will be reseted. Here is the way to download general traces: Open a FTP session. Type : cd traces Type : mget *.* to download all traces or get filename.trc (where filename is a trace file name, i.e : gateway.trc gatekeeper.trc voicebox.trc) to download only one file. Then, type bye to qui the FTP session and note the prompt (i.e : C:\>). You will find the file named traces files (with trc extension) into the directory corresponding to your DOS prompt (i.e : C:\>).

2.

ISDN traces
Caution Ethernet traces are not available for 03.50 versions but only up to 03.51 versions. When meeting some ISDN problems, general traces can be not sufficient enough. ISDN traces are available to trace all ISDN messages exchanges between the QuesCom and PSTN network or PBX. Note ISDN traces are not available for QuesCom IP/GSM versions. These traces offer to QuesCom Support a deeper analysis of the problem. Here is the way to activate and download ISDN traces: Connect to telnet and type snfshell /capture_start. Place calls until you meet the problem. Then, type snfshell /capture_stop. To download traces from the QuesCom 400, connect to FTP and type get qisdn.i4b. Then, type bye to qui the FTP session and note the prompt (i.e : C:\>). You will find the file named qisdn.i4b into the directory corresponding to your DOS prompt (i.e : C:\>).

3.

GSM traces
Once activated, GSM traces are available within gateway traces (gateway.trc file).

3.1

Activating GSM traces

QuesCom provide two solutions to activate GSM traces. One is temporary and will be unset after a reboot and the second is persistent.
3.1.1 Temporary solution

This solution is only available if GSM port 0 is registered. If not, this solution does not work. Caution This solution is only available if GSM port 0 is registered. If not, this solution does not work, an error message (OpenSingleGSMPorts (0) FAILED !) will occur. Note Note that with this solution, GSM traces will be inactivated automatically after a reboot or a gateway restart. Please, follow those steps: Connect to telnet and type gwconfig /gsm. Select option 14: Set GSM Trace Level. Set GSM Trace Level at 1 (type 1 and Enter)

3.1.2

Persistent solution

This solution activates traces in a persistent way. You should prefer the temporary way if possible. Please, follow those steps: Connect to telnet and type gwconfig and cd isdn Select your GSM adapter by typing cd Adapter.X where X is your GSM adapter number (i.e. 0 for IP-GSM gateway and 1 pour 2PRI, 4BRI or 8BRI gateway and 2 for 4PRI configuration). Type Set GSMTraceLevel=1 and exit Save the configuration and do not reboot the QuesCom Type restart gateway under X:\ prompt (It will stop all current communications)

3.2
3.2.1

Inactivating GSM traces

Temporary solution

In the temporary solution, GSM traces are inactivated automatically when the QuesCom reboot. But if you need to inactivated GSM traces before any rebooting, follow this steps: Connect to telnet and type gwconfig /gsm.

3.2.2 Persistent solution

If you have activated traces in a persistent way, you may have to inactivated them once your tests are done. Type Set GSMTraceLevel=0 and exit Save the configuration and do not reboot the QuesCom Type restart gateway under X:\ prompt (It will stop all current communications)

4.

Ethernet traces
Caution Ethernet traces are not available for 03.50 versions but only up to 03.51 versions. When meeting some problems on IP architectures, general traces can be not sufficient enough. Ethernet traces are available to trace all IP messages exchanges between the QuesCom and other equipments (IP Phone, Gatekeeper, Gateway, other QuesCom 400). These traces offer to QuesCom Support a deeper analysis of the problem. Here is the way to get Ethernet traces : Connect to telnet and type tcshell /capture_start. Place calls until you meet the problem. Then, type tcshell /capture_stop. To download traces from the QuesCom 400, connect to FTP and type mget *.cap. Then, type bye to qui the FTP session and note the prompt (i.e : C:\>). You will find files named *.cap into the directory corresponding to your DOS prompt (i.e : C:\>).

Note Since version 4.10, IP traces works in cyclic mode on two files: q400_c.cap and q400_e.cap
