ABOUT
DR.SUSANA PALMA
Here in Spain, Dr Susana Palma has been a pioneer in the technique of orthodontics
with clear aligners.
She was among the first group of certified doctors who, in 2001, began to study and
then to acquire an expertise in the use of aligners. She has helped to form thousand
of doctors worldwide.
In 2015 Invisalign bestowed on her the first international award for excellence
based on her results in biomechanical management of orthodontic techniques
with aligners. Nowadays she has become one of the most recognized international
speakers in terms of Clear Orthodontics.
In our courses, Dr Palma provides direct, face to face
learning for every doctor in attendance.
You will learn not just about biomechanical protocols,
enabling you to cope with the most complex cases,
but also how to internalize the most appropriate
planning process.
Flowing from this you will gain an understanding
of the most effective way of communicating
with the technicians.
Most importantly, you will learn how to reproduce
the excellent results shown by Dr Palma in her
patients’ outcomes.
Biomechanics with and without Auxiliary Techniques
in Adults Patients and Multidisciplinary Treatments
1. BIOMECHANICS WITH AND WITHOUT AUXILIARY TECHNIQUES
Dynamic evaluation of the 3D Software.
Simultaneous/sequential and reciprocal movements.
How to make more efficient the movement with aligners combining the synergic
movement and the reciprocal movements and sequencing those that do work in in
antagonist way.
- BIOMECHANICS WITHOUT AUXILIARY TECHNIQUES.
1 Biomechanics in the transversal plane.
-Symmetric and asymmetric expansion
-Expansion in patients with recessions and loss of attachment
-Biomechanics in the correction of the posterior cross bite in adult
-Biomechanics in the correction of the scissor bite in adult
-Biomechanics for upper midline shift
-Tips for the correction of the transversal plane
2 Biomechanics in the sagittal plane
-Class II division 1 protocol and staging
-Class II division 2 protocol and staging
-Patterns for sequential distalization . Control of differential anchorage and
compensation for bowing effect.
-Class II subdivision maxillary cause
-Class II subdivision mandibular cause(correction by mesialization of lower arch)
-Tools for sagittal correction

3 Biomechanics in the vertical plane.
- Protocols for deep bite correction
- Protocols for levelling Spee curve
- Tools and features of the software for deep bite correction
- Protocols for open bite correction
- Tools and features of the software for open bite correction
- Overcorrection and overtreatment
-BIOMECHANICS WITH AUXILIARY TECHNIQUES.
TADs / Implants / Locatelli / Power arm
- USES OF TADS CASES WITH : Treatment of agenesis of lateral incisors /
mandibular asymmetry / maxillary asymmetry / canting of the occlusal plane /
molars intrusion
- USES OF POSTERIOR IMPLANT BEFORE ORTHO TREATMENT to correct posterior
bite collapse
- USES OF LOCATELLI For mesialization of lower arch opening spaces for implants
- POWER ARM to open spaces for implants
2. TROUBLE SHOOTING AND FINISHING.
- Open posterior bite. How to prevent it and how to solve it.
- Sagittal bowing.
- Transversal bowing.
- Extraction cases. Preventing bowing.
- Keys for outstanding finishing.

3. ASYMMETRIES.
- Functional and skeletal asymmetries in growing patients and in adults.
- Influence of the masticatory pattern to develop the asymmetric growth of the
maxilla and mandible
-Biomechanics for the correction with aligners in teenagers and adults
-Compensations in the 3 planes of space
4. MULTIDISCIPLINARY CASES.
- Short Face cases, how to increase vertical dimension in adults opening spaces
for implants with aligners
- Gummy anterior smile, correction increasing arch length
- Cases where ortho treatment with aligners is better to do it before placing the
implants
- Cases where the implants must be address before ortho treatment. Posterior bite
collapses cases.
- Ortho- perio cases
- Ortho- Aesthetic cases. Cases with diastemas, agenesis . Smile design with ortho
and veneers.

5. CLINICAL PREFERENCES
Communication with technicians is key for the success of the treatment. Working in
coordination will ensure less refinement, short the treatment time and enhance the
patient experience.
Dr. Palma will explain and present all her clinical preferences, which she uses to instruct
the technicians for every procedure.
This is not only to communicate her desired outcomes for each case but also to detail
the precise steps involved in executing each movement.
This approach ensures seamless coordination with the technicians, granting you
complete control in every case reducing the amount of 3D modifications.
- Attachment selection (Optimized and precise AT vs Conventional) when to use one or
another
- AT for upper or lower distalization / AT for upper or lower mesialization / AT for
vertical movements / AT for extraction cases
- Staging for correcting rotations of flat and round teeth. Round tripping
- Staging for control of anchorage during expansion
- Asymmetric expansion pattern
- Sandwich technique, indications and staging for technicians
- Spee curve levelling protocol with frog staging and comparison with standard
protocol
- Open bite staging by intrusion of posterior teeth
- PIR and TIR protocol of upper incisors
- Pattern of sequential distalization use by Dr Palma and its difference with pattern
every 4 aligners, 1/2 and 1/3.
- Protocol of use of elastics according to this specific distalization pattern
- Lower arch mesialization patterns
- Simultaneous distalization with double cable mechanics 3 step protocol
- Staging for class II subdivision of maxillary and mandibular cause
- Staging for class III correction controlling inclination of the occlusal plane
- Staging for asymmetric class III correction
MIXED DENTITION
- Patterns of expansion in mixed dentition
- Class II division 2 and subdivision in mixed dentition
