- Powering the Metronome
The Flamenco Metronome can be powered in three different ways:
1 5V DC mains adaptor (supplied).
2 2 1.5V AA type LR6 batteries (the most widely available battery). Alkaline batteries
offer longer life.
3 Connected to a PC via USB port.
The power switch has two positions: down for batteries and up for an external power
source.

When the Metronome is switched on, this screen appears:
This is the start menu. The upper arrow shows that Metrónomo (Metronome) is selected.
Press to enter the Metronome. Press to select Afinador (Tuner). This screen is
displayed:
Press to enter the Tuner. Press to select Configuración (Set-up). This screen
appears:

EASY MODE
Select Metronome from the start menu and press . Entering a screen called Easy mode.
In this mode you can :

- Select a SONG by pressing or .
- Change speed, beats per minute (BPM) by pressing or .
- Adjust the volume and .
- Play SONG .
- Return to start menu .
- When pressing entering a screen called Compose mode. This screen is more
complex but allow more features. In version 1.00 of the MFSS there is no Easy
mode, enter directly in Compose mode.
When press , selected SONG start play. In play mode the keyboard functions are
different. See in Pg.9 (KEYBOARD FUNCTIONS IN PLAY MODE).

COMPOSE MODE
In Compose mode, the upper left-hand corner of the screen shows the following:
SONG 1 Alegría ( for example )
In this mode the upper left-hand corner of the screen always shows one of the following
options:
SONG - BPM – COMPAS - FORMULA - BEATS - CurBeat - TRACK
Press or to select an option.
The function of the keys varies according to the option selected and whether the metronome
is in play or stop mode.

SONG
A SONG is a series of rhythm FORMULAS arranged in a list. In a SONG each field in the
list has a COMPÁS number. Each song has 120 fields.
Select the SONG option. To the right of SONG is the Song number and the Song name.
For example:
1 Alegría
Press . Alegría will play continuously. To stop, press again.
KEYBOARD FUNCTIONS IN PLAY MODE
Key functions in Play mode:
Stop.
Pause.
Switch the internal MONO loudspeaker on or off. The STEREO auxiliary output for
headphones or hi-fi equipment is always active.
and Adjust percussion volume and click track level.
and The Flamenco Metronome can play the programmed percussion by itself or
mixed with a click track. There are 8 different playback modes. The playback mode is
indicated on the right, on the second line on the screen, by the letter M followed by a

number from 0 to 7.
M0 PERCUSSION ONLY playback mode. In this Mode the C and D keys adjust the
volume.
M1 CROCHET mode, i.e. one note in each Beat
M2 QUAVER mode, two notes
M3 TRIPLET mode, three notes
M4 SEMI-QUAVER mode, four notes
M5 QUINTUPLET mode, five notes
M6 SEXTUPLET mode, six notes
M7 FOOT mode. In this mode only the accented Beats of the Compás are played (for the
guitarist to mark with his/her foot).
In modes M1 to M7, and adjust the click track level.
In modes M1 to M6, the accented Beats are marked with a louder note than the normal
Beats.
Use and to change mode.
The default sound for the click track is the first instrument on the instrument list (clave) but
it can be changed to palmas, cajón, taconeo, etc, or any other on the list. This is explained
later.
Increase tempo (BPM, Beats Per Minute).
Decrease tempo.
Key functions in Stop mode:
Play selected Song.
Select next SONG.
Select previous SONG.
Return to Easy mode.
Change current SONG name.
When this key is pressed, the cursor appears on the first character. Use and to
change the selected character. Use or to move the cursor. When the song name is
correct, either press to return to the previous screen or press to enter SONG set-up.
SETUP appears on the top line on the screen, followed by the Song number, and then,
instead of the Song name, there are four new options.
Option 1 N or R. N means Normal playback mode and R means Random mode. Use or

to change mode.
In Normal mode the formulas in the song are played in order. In Random mode the
formulas are played randomly.
Press -> to select the second option.
Option 2 T followed by a number. This shows how many Times the Song is repeated. If
there is no number after the T, the song will be played continuously.
Press -> to select the third option.
Option 3 I followed by a number from 0 to 12. This shows the number of intro beats before
the song is played.
Press -> to select the fourth option.
Option 4 S followed by a number from 0 to 12. This shows the number of silent beats at the
end of each loop before the Song is repeated.
To leave SETUP and return to SONG, press .
and Adjust percussion volume and click track level.
Go to BPM.
Go to TRACK.

BPM
The Song tempo is shown in the middle of the second line on the screen, as B followed by a
number. For example, B 160. The cursor is on the number.
Increase start tempo for selected song.
Decrease start tempo for selected song.
Start playing selected Song at start tempo indicated.
Return to Easy mode.
Change metronome mode from M0 to M7, in the same way as in Song playback.
Press B to change to the next playback mode.
and Adjust volume.
Go to COMPÁS.
Return to SONG.

COMPÁS
Draw up the list of FORMULAS which make up a SONG.
Key functions:
Play selected Song.
Add selected FORMULA to COMPÁS at this point.
Delete FORMULA from COMPÁS at this point.
Increase SONG tempo from this point in COMPÁS.
Decrease SONG tempo from this point in COMPÁS.
Increase in tempo is shown on the second line of the screen after I. If the number is
negative, the Song slows down and if the number is positive, the song speeds up, beginning
at the current point in the Compás. The number shows how many beats per minute (BPM)
the tempo will progressively increase or decrease over the time remaining. For example, the
BPM is 120 and a tempo increase of 6 is entered. If the Compás has 3 beats remaining, the
song tempo will increase 2 BPM in each Beat.
Go to FORMULA.
Return to BPM.

FORMULA
A rhythm formula can contain 1 to 12 beats, with 8 instrument tracks, which can be
selected from a list of 16. The system can hold 512 different formulas. 128 of these are pre-
programmed formulas with the rhythms of all the flamenco palos with an established
Compás. The rest of the formulas can be composed freely by the user, with any type of
rhythm for any musical style: flamenco, pop, rock, jazz, etc.
No knowledge of music is needed to compose rhythm formulas.
Key functions:
Play selected FORMULA continuously.
Add selected FORMULA to COMPÁS at this point.
Delete FORMULA from COMPÁS at this point.
and have the same functions as and in COMPÁS. They change the
current position of the Compás.
Go to next FORMULA.
Go to previous FORMULA
Go to BEATS.
Return to COMPÁS.

BEATS
Change the number of BEATS in the selected FORMULA.
( Note: if the serial number of metronome is lower than 500 , the screen show TIMES
instead of BEATS )
Key functions:
Increase number of BEATS in FORMULA (to a maximum of 12).
Decrease number of BEATS in FORMULA (to a minimum of 1).
Play selected FORMULA once.
Return to Easy mode.
This allows you to change the FORMULA name. When you press the key in this
field, you will see that the cursor locates over the first character of the formula name. You
can change it in the same way as with the song name.
Go to CurBeat.
Return to FORMULA.

CurBeat
Set the current beat as normal or accented. Set start number for FORMULA count.
Key functions:
Move current Beat up.
Move current Beat down.
Play Current Beat and move on to next beat. This allows you to play the formula step
by step.
Add or remove accent in current Beat.
Edit selected CurBeat and TRACK.
Here is an example. CurBeat = 1 and TRACK = 2, and in TRACK 2 the instrument is
palmaA (high clap). Press B to enter EDIT mode. The cursor is at the bottom right of the
screen, where a series of numbers show what palmaA does in BEAT 1 of the FORMULA.
These numbers show the following:
In each Beat and Track you can enter number 0 to 3 or enter no number. 0 = Silence; 3 =
high-intensity note; 2 = medium-intensity note; 1= low-intensity note. Two digits = two
notes. 0 plus another digit = Silence and a counter rhythm note. Up to 8 digits can be used
in a Beat. Examples:
111 three low-intensity notes.

203 a medium-intensity note, a silence and then a high-intensity note.
To leave EDIT mode, press again.
FORMULA count begins from current number minus one.
FORMULA count begins from current number plus one (some flamenco palos begin
counting at numbers other than 1).
Go to TRACK.
Return to BEATS.

TRACK
Select the desired instrument for each TRACK and EDIT the contents of each TRACK in
the current Beat. At the bottom left of the screen there is a letter T followed by a number 0
to 8. Track 0 is the click track, and tracks 1 to 8 are for rhythm formulas.
Key functions:
Go to next TRACK.
Go to previous TRACK.
Play current Beat.
Select instrument for current TRACK. Press . The cursor is on the right of the
Track number, on the instrument name. Select the instrument or silence using and .
Go to EDIT.
Return to SONG.
Go to CurBeat.

2- CHROMATIC TUNER
Select TUNER from the start menu and press . The upper section of the screen shows a
picture of a TUNER with a needle to left. The lower part of the screen shows the string,
fret, and frequency, the difference between the note played and the right pitch, and the note
name in the Do-Re-Mi and A-B-C scales. Pluck a guitar string and the needle moves. If the
needle is in the centre, the string is tuned correctly. ->OK<- shows at the bottom of the
screen.
If the needle is left of centre, tighten the string until the needle is centred. At the bottom of

the screen you will see:

NN is the percentage difference between the frequency of the note played and the right
pitch.
If the needle is right of centre, loosen the string. At the bottom of the screen you will see:

For example, to tune the sixth string with a capo on the second fret, this is correct tuning:

Select SET-UP from the start menu and press .
The right section of the screen shows:
English
Spanish
Use or to select the desired language for the MFSS and press .
The lower section of the screen shows the file configuration date and configuration file
name of the device, by default called Original.
When the file name is Original, SONGS and FORMULAS are protected, cannot be
changed from the MFSS, but can create new FORMULAS and SONGS.
If from Metronome you make changes in SONGS or FORMULAS, the changes are saved
when you select any other SONG or FORMULA using and , then the lower section
of the screen show:
- Save.
- Ignore.
If the SONG or FORMULA are protected, the screen show:
