The St.

Jude Apostolate
As a crusade of prayer, the Apostolate has been stationed by God as a watchman, and so, we give
ourselves no rest and give God no rest until he attends to the needs of his people. Indeed, the
faithful disciple and friend of Jesus, St. Jude Thaddeus continues to make intercession for his
friends. The St. Jude Apostolate organizes six (6) novenas annually. New Year Novena (January 1
- 9), Lenten Novena (usually in March), Pentecost Novena (begins nine days before Pentecost),
Novena in honour of Sts. Joachim and Anne (July 18 - 26), Novena in honour of Our Lady of
Sorrows (September 7 - 15), and Novena in honour of St. Jude Thaddeus (October 20 - 28). During
the novenas, three Masses are said daily at 6:15 am; 12noon; and 6:30 pm at St. Dominic's Yaba,
Lagos. The Mass at 6:30 pm is often streamed live on our social network platforms. Devotees of
St. Jude and those in need of God's favour always send their petitions to the Shrine of St. Jude at
St. Dominic's, Yaba. At the end of the novena, the novena preacher blesses the novena
participants with the relic of St. Jude Thaddeus which the Apostolate is privileged to have.

St. Jude Society

In parishes some devotees gather weekly for devotion to St. Jude Thaddeus. Find out if there is a
St. Jude Society in your parish and the days of their meeting. You may consider being a member!
If it does not exist yet in your parish, kindly let us know.

The Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus

A Shrine according to the Canon Law, is a church or sacred place which with the approval of the
bishop, the faithful make pilgrimages. In the Shrine of St. Jude at Yaba, we have the statues of St.
Anthony the wonder worker, St. Martin de Porres, and St. Jude Thaddeus himself. Why the statue
of St. Martin de Porres? The Shrine is run by the Dominicans, St. Martin was a Dominican. The
Shrine was founded in 1959 by Rev. Brother Stephen Lucas, OP from Chicago, and St. Martin, who
was black-skinned, was canonized three years after. So, his statue was placed at the St. Jude
Shrine. At the Shrine of St. Jude, there is a petition box where you can drop your
petition/offerings. You can equally light memorial candles to burn for your intentions. The Red
Candles at the Shrine are operated at the discretion of the Devotee. Drop your petition (you may
make your offering as well), then press the button under a Red Candle. Your Red Candle will stay
lit for your intention for four hours. In addition, you can light a memorial candle to burn for your
intention(s) at the Shrine for a whole year. Your memorial candle will stay lit for 24 hours a day
for 365 days! You may consider it. The Memorial Candle may be lit for different intentions. Each
candle has a small plaque with your name or the name of the person you are praying for and your
intention on it.
What about burning a candle at the Shrine of St. Jude for nine days? You can have a candlelit for
your intention for nine days and Novena of Masses said over your intention(s). To light any of the
candles, contact our office or simply visit our website.
Even in your absence, your petitions at the Shrine of St. Jude are your voice in the presence of
God. Why not send your petition(s) today?
Petitions can be sent to be placed on the altar any time of the year as Masses are offered daily by
the Dominicans for the intentions at the Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus.

Novena Prayer to St. Jude Thaddeus

Having introduced you to St. Jude Thaddeus, we hereby present you with this novena guide as
you ask for God's favour and miraculous intervention in your life. Novena, from the Latin novem
- nine - is a devotional prayer consisting of private or public prayers for particular intention(s) for
nine days or weeks. If it is said consecutively for three days, it is known as triduum. You can make
use of this prayer as an individual or as a group. It can be said before the Shrine of St. Jude
Thaddeus located at St. Dominic's Yaba, Lagos, or before his statue, in the chapel, in one's house,
or anywhere one considers comfortable. In journeying with St. Jude Thaddeus, one must have in
mind that as the Patron Saint of Difficult and Hopeless cases, he obtains favours for us following
God's will. The confidence we have, therefore, is that whatever we ask for is granted to us under
God's will (1 John 5:14). Through his powerful intercession, may the good Lord grant answers to
your prayers. Do well to share your testimonies with us. If the Lord has blessed you, do not
hesitate to make donations to the Apostolate to aid the spread of devotion to our wonder worker,
St. Jude Thaddeus. From the Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus, Yaba, God bless you!

Day One - Trusting in God's Mercy

Let us, therefore, draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy
and may find grace to help in time of need (Heb 4:16).
Every time is a time of need but this period of Novena is a special time for me to draw near to
You, my God. I may not know how to make my request, but I have confidence in the powerful
intercession of St. Jude Thaddeus, hence, I approach Your Throne of Grace, O Lord, through him.
I begin, therefore, by asking for Your mercy, O Lord. O my God, I am very sorry that I have sinned
against you because you are so good and deserving of all my love, by the help of your grace, I will
not sin again (if occasion permits, one can make use of Psalm 51 here).
Reflection: If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my
face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and
heal their land (2Chronicles 7:14).
Prayer
Most holy Apostle, Saint Jude Thaddeus, friend of Jesus, I place myself in your care at these
difficult times. Help me know that I need not face my troubles alone. Please join me in my need,
asking God to send me: consolation in my sorrow, courage in my fear, and healing in my suffering.
Ask our loving Lord to fill me with the grace to accept whatever may lie ahead for me and my
loved ones, and to strengthen my faith in God's healing powers. Thank you. Saint Jude Thaddeus,
for the promise of hope you hold out to all who believe and inspire me to give this gift of hope to
others as it has been given to me.
Saint Jude, Apostle of Hope, Pray for us!

Litany of St. Jude Thaddeus

Lord, have mercy on us.
Christ, have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, hear us.
Christ, graciously hear us.
God the Father of heaven, Have mercy on us. (repeat after each line)
God the Son, Redeemer of the world,
God the Holy Ghost,
Holy Trinity, One God,
St. Jude, relative of Jesus and Mary,
Pray for us. (repeat after each line)
St. Jude, while on earth deemed worthy to see Jesus and Mary, and to enjoy their company,
St. Jude, raised to the dignity of an Apostle,
St. Jude, who had the honor of beholding thy Divine Master humble Himself to wash thy feet,
St. Jude, who at the Last Supper didst receive the Holy Eucharist from the hands of Jesus,
St. Jude, who after the profound grief which the death of thy beloved Master caused thee, had
the consolation of beholding Him risen from the dead, and of assisting at His glorious Ascension,
St. Jude, who was filled with the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost,
St. Jude, who didst preach the Gospel in Persia,
St. Jude, who didst convert many people to the Faith,
St. Jude, who didst perform wonderful miracles in the power of the Holy Ghost,
St. Jude, who restored an idolatrous king to health of both soul and body,
St. Jude, who didst impose silence on demons, and didst confound their oracles,
St. Jude, who foretold to a weak prince an honorable peace with his powerful enemy,
St. Jude, who didst take from deadly serpents the power of injuring man,
St. Jude, who, disregarding the threats of the impious, didst courageously preach the doctrine of
Christ,
St. Jude, who gloriously suffered martyrdom for the love of thy Divine Master,
Blessed Apostle, With confidence we invoke thee! (say 3 times)
St. Jude, help of the hopeless, Aid me in my distress! (say 3 times)
That by thine intercession, both priests and people of the Church may obtain an ardent zeal for
the Faith of Jesus Christ,
We beseech thee, hear us. (repeat after each line)
That thou wouldst defend our Sovereign Pontiff and obtain peace and unity for Holy Church,
That all heathens and unbelievers may be converted to the True Faith,
That faith, hope and charity may increase in our hearts,
That we may be delivered from all evil thoughts and from all the snares of the devil,
That thou wouldst vouchsafe to aid and protect all those who honor thee,
That thou wouldst preserve us from all sin and from all occasions of sin,
That thou wouldst defend us at the hour of death, against the fury of the devil and of his evil
spirits,
Pray for us, that before death we may expiate all our sins by sincere repentance and the worthy
reception of the holy sacraments,
Pray for us, that we may appease the Divine justice, and obtain a favorable judgment,
Pray for us, that we may be admitted into the company of the blessed, to rejoice in the presence
of our God forever,
Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world,
Spare us, O Lord.
Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world,
Graciously hear us, O Lord.
Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world,
Have mercy on us.
V. St. Jude, pray for us,
R. And for all who invoke thy aid.
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, merciful Saviour, humbly we beseech you that having honoured the
eternal memory of Saint Jude Thaddeus, your kinsman, and Apostle, we may through his merits
and prayers obtain the grace of your healing peace and answers to our prayers, who live and reign
forever and ever. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be ...

Novena Prayer to St. Jude (to be recited every day of the Novena)
Most holy apostle, Saint Jude Thaddeus, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the
traitor who delivered thy beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused thee to be
forgotten by many, but the Church honours and invokes thee universally as the patron of hopeless
cases and things despaired of. Pray for me who am so miserable; make use, I implore thee, of that
particular privilege accorded to thee to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost
despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and
succour of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly (here make your
request), and that I may bless God with thee and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise thee,
O blessed Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favour, and I will never cease to honour thee as
my special and powerful patron and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to thee. Amen.
St Jude Thaddeus, pray for us. And for all who invoke thy aid.

Day Two - Forget the former things

Reflection: Look, I am doing something new, now it emerges; can you not see it? Yes, I am making
a road in the desert and rivers in wastelands (Isaiah 43:19).
Prayer
O Holy St Jude! Apostle and Martyr, great in virtue and rich in miracles, near kinsman of Jesus
Christ, faithful intercessor for all who invoke you, special patron in time of need; to you I have
recourse from the depth of my heart, and humbly beg you, to whom God has given such great
power, to come to my assistance; help me now in my urgent need and grant my earnest petition.
I will never forget thy graces and favors you obtain for me and I will do my utmost to spread
devotion to you. Amen.
Litany and the Novena Prayer ...

Day Three - The Lord's Plan

Reflection: I know well the plans I have in mind for you - oracle of the Lord - plans for your welfare
and not for woe, to give you a future of hope. When you call me, and come and pray to me, I will
listen to you. (Jeremiah 29:11-12).
Prayer
O Saint Jude Thaddeus, a relative of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, glorious Apostle and Martyr, beloved
of the Most Holy Trinity, rich in virtue and glorious in miracles, a speedy advocate of those who
invoke thee and trust in thee, O great patron and faithful helper in difficult situations! I too, in my
misery come to thee. From the depths of my heart, I call upon thee to hasten to my aid. On thee
has God bestowed the privilege of assisting those who have almost despaired of all aid. Look
down then upon me. Come, O come to my aid, great and holy Apostle, that I may sing God's
praises and thine, and proclaim thy goodness and thy power. Amen. St Jude, Help of the Helpless,
aid us in our distress. Blessed Apostle, with confidence we invoke thee

Day Four - Remember the Deeds of the Lord

Reflection: Lord, I have heard of your fame, I stand in awe at your deeds. Do them again in our
days, in our days make them known ... " (Habakkuk 3:2; see also, Psalm 44).
Prayer
Glorious Apostle, Saint Jude Thaddeus, I praise God for all the graces He has bestowed upon you,
granting you the privilege of bringing help to those in despair. Intercede for me in my great need
(now mention your petition). Through your merits and prayers may I receive the consolation of
divine help in my necessity so that I may praise the mercy of God on earth and bless Him eternally
with you and all the elect in heaven. Ever mindful of your favour I will honour you as my heavenly
patron, and encourage devotion to you in what way I can. Therefore, with confidence, I invoke
your aid: helper when hope is fading, help me in my distress. Amen.
Litany and the Novena Prayer ...
Day Five - Wait for the Favourable Time
Reflection: Thus says the Lord: in a time of favour I answer you, on the day of salvation I help you;
I form you and set you as a covenant for the people, to restore the land and allot the devastated
heritages (Isaiah 49:8).
Prayer
Glorious Apostle Saint Jude Thaddeus, true relative of Jesus and Mary, I salute thee through the
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Through this heart, I praise and thank God for all the graces He has
bestowed upon thee. Humbly prostrate before thee, I implore thee through this heart to look
down upon me with compassion. Oh, despise not my poor prayer; let not my trust be
confounded! To thee, God has granted the privilege of aiding mankind in the most desperate case.
Oh, come to my aid, that I may praise the mercies of God! All my life I will be grateful to thee and
will be thy faithful client until I can thank thee in heaven.
Litany and the Novena Prayer ...

Day Six - God is Never Late

Reflection: The Lord does not delay his promise, as some regard "delay," but he is patient with
you, not wishing that any should perish ... If it delays, wait for it, it will surely come, it will not be
late. (2 Peter 3:9; Habakkuk 2:2-3; see also, John 11).
Prayer
Most humble Saint Jude, in humility we anxiously await our redeemer to act on this humble
petition (mention your petitions). Being close to him, kindly and constantly present us and our
needs to the Lord Jesus that he may turn his kindly countenance towards us and grant answers
to our prayers. Amen.
Litany and the Novena Prayer ...

Day Seven - You Must not Despair

Reflection: The angel then said, 'Daniel, do not be afraid: from that first day when the better to
understand, you resolved to mortify yourself before God, your words have been heard; your
words are the reason why I have come. The Prince of the kingdom of Persia has been resisting me
for twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the Chief Princes, came to my assistance. I have left him
confronting the kings of Persia and have come to tell you what will happen to your people in the
final days. For here is a new vision about those days' (Daniel 10:12-14).
Prayer
Most holy Apostle St. Jude, knowing the intentions for which we have embarked on this novena
(mention your intentions), we humbly beg that you do not relent in your intercession for us before
God. With confidence in your willingness to help, according to your name, the most amiable, we
honour your memory and look forward to sharing testimonies on account of your powerful
intercession. Amen.
Litany and the Novena Prayer ...

Day Eight - Push Again

Reflection: On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; all day and all night they will
never keep silent. You who remind the LORD, take no rest for yourselves; and give Him no rest
until He establishes and makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth (Isaiah 62:6-7; see also Exodus
17:8-13).
Prayer
Most Holy Apostle St. Jude, it is often difficult to persist, especially when the answer seems to be
delayed. Help us intercede that we may never give up but that God may encourage us by granting
whatever is necessary for our wellbeing and salvation. Amen.
Litany and the Novena Prayer ...

Day Nine - Let Your Will be Done

Reflection: And we have this confidence in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he
hears us (1 John 5:14; see also, Matthew 6:9-10; 26:39-42).
Prayer
O holy St. Jude, Apostle, and martyr grant that we may so dispose our lives to the will of God.
May we not so much seek temporal goods, but rather that which will help our souls, knowing that
it will profit us nothing if we gain the whole world yet suffer the loss of our soul. Therefore, we
incline ourselves towards the divine will. seeing God's good and gracious purpose in all our trials.
Amen.
