INTRODUCTION

This work is divided into two parts, which consist of making the presentation in the

forum and answering respectively 5 questions posed by the activity guide in order

to socialize them with the group members. With each response to the members, a

new response was constructed for the interests stated in order to have each concept

clearer.

With this activity, the objective is to investigate the concept of botany, recognize the

branches into which they are divided, identify two plant species from each region

where we live, their importance and their contributions to the development of

agricultural production and the types of plant species that contribute to the forestry

production of each region, allowing us to learn about other territories and how

important they are for development and understand why the study of botany is

significant in our information program.

GOALS

GENERAL: investigate and interact on the topics of the first activity which

correspond to the identification of botany and how it is applied in our career

which is agronomy and each of the functions of this study that leads us to

recognize each characteristic and function that it fulfills in plants.

SPECIFIC:

 identify the concept of botany.

 recognize the branches of botany.

 to present two plant species that contribute to the agricultural production of

each region.

 To present the species that are of great importance in the forest production of

each region.

 recognize the importance of economic botany in agronomy.

1. What does the concept of Botany mean?

Botany is that branch of natural science that has as its object the study of plants,

both under their microscopic and molecular aspect, as well as their macroscopic

and functional aspect. Plants are organic and living beings, devoid of nervous

sensitivity and locomotion; but they enjoy irritability and resistance to external

actions that permanently tend to destroy them. This science is divided into several

kingdoms: plants, fungi, protoctists and monera, which will be explained later.

2. What are the branches into which the science of Botany

is divided for its study? Explain what each one consists of.

PHYTOCHEMISTRY: It is responsible for studying and identifying the

chemical products that plants contain.

HISTOLOGY: Histology is the study of the microscopic anatomy

(microanatomy) of cells and tissues of plants and animals.

PHYTOPATHOLOGY: is responsible for studying and identifying diseases in

plants caused by pathogens and environmental conditions. This study helps us

monitor the capacity of plants to resist this type of pathogens.

PHYTOGEOGRAPHY: Botanical geography, also known as phytogeography,

5

is the branch of biogeography and botany that deals with the geographical

distribution of plant species and their influence on the earth's surface.

Phytogeography deals with all aspects of plant distribution,

GEOBOTANY: Geobotany analyses the living conditions under which various

plant taxa and communities grow, how individual organisms adapt to local

conditions and the type of survival strategies they pursue.

The methodological diversity of this discipline also reflects the multitude of

habitats to be investigated.

3. Why is the study of Economic Botany important in your training

program?

Importance of Economic Botany As we well know, economic botany has been in

constant evolution in a rapid way, which has served for the well-being of all living

beings, which leads to the improvement of plants, which allows us to obtain better

varieties.

4. Do you believe that society understands and takes action to

protect the environment? If so, please mention which ones.

Yes, they understand that what happens is that society does not apply, but society
6

can do some of these things like Social participation in issues such as global

warming, water disposal, deforestation, production and consumption patterns, as

well as in the principles and values that sustain this society, is very important.

5. Do you think there are enough laws for

environmental protection? If so, mention at least two.

Yes, of course there are many laws that protect the environment such as Water

Protection.

Protection of the marine environment, such as Law 41/2010, of December 29, on

the protection of the marine environment, which controls discharges from ships

and aircraft, protecting endangered marine species, as well as the declaration of

marine protected areas. Law protecting climate change. Likewise, on January 21,

2020, the Council of Ministers agreed on the “Government Declaration on the

Climate and Environmental Emergency.” This declaration is in line with the

international commitment to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions, assumed

through the Paris Agreement, as well as with the commitments acquired in the

United Nations 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development Goals.

And there's more.

6. Do you think that money is being invested in actions

to protect the environment?

7

I think so, since Colombia is one of the richest countries in terms of biodiversity,

that means that there is not so much pollution, and it is helping economically with

the environmental difficulties in the country.

7. Why is the study of Botany important in environmental conservation

Botany is important mainly because it is the scientific study of plants, which in

turn are used in many aspects of human life. Botanists study plants of all kinds

and apply their knowledge of the characteristics and traits of crops, plants and

flowers to influence the fields of medicine, science, cosmetics and more. Plants

support the basic daily functions of human life by providing food and nutrition,

supplementing medicines and cosmetics, and serving as important ingredients in a

variety of medications.

Botany affects most aspects of life in many different ways. Products such as food,

medicine, wood, textiles, alcohol and rubber are derived from plants; botany has

enabled these technologies and many more. Botany is key to the development of

biofuels, such as biomass and methane gas, which are alternatives to fossil fuels.

This science is also essential for economic productivity because it includes a study

of ideal crops and cultivation techniques to help farmers increase production and

make their practices more efficient. Botany is also important in the area of

environmental protection. Botanists document the diverse types of plants that exist
8

on Earth and can issue warnings when populations begin to decline. Botanists can

influence studies in other academic disciplines, such as life sciences, science

communication, ecology, and evolutionary biology.

CONCLUSIONS

To conclude this activity and develop each of the activities proposed to the guide,

address the importance of botany and each of its functions and the fundamental

role it plays in our career, understanding that botany is a very broad branch and

that it has been applied for years through the empirical form and with the passage

of time it has improved, demonstrating each study and in this way understanding

that its application in our daily lives is essential, recognizing plant species that

contribute to the development of each municipality or department, this being very

interesting.
