Poverty
What is the impact of Poverty on
Children in Sierra Leone?
Our Goals:
1. Education: the aim is to provide equal access to affordable vocational
training, eliminate gender and wealth disparities, and achieve universal
access to quality higher education.
2. Health: especially of the poor, among whom ill health and deprived
access to health care tend to be concentrated, as well as protect
households from the potentially catastrophic effects of out-of-pocket
health care costs.
3. Better facilities: Eradicating (putting an end to) extreme poverty for
everyone everywhere, Extreme poverty, defined as surviving on less than
$2.15 per person per day in 2017 purchasing power parity, has witnessed
remarkable declines over recent decades.

Perspectives:
Global Perspective - 8.5 percent of the worldwide population - almost 700 million
people live today on less than $2.15 per day. A person surviving less than $2.15 a
day lives in extreme poverty as defined by the World Bank.

affected%20countries.
National/Local - Locally, people see poverty as not having enough to meet their
daily needs. This includes things like food, water, shelter, and healthcare.
Nationally, poverty is seen more through statistics and data. The government
looks at the overall economic situation of the country and uses this information to
create policies to help reduce poverty. This perspective focuses on big-picture
solutions, like improving education, creating jobs, and providing social services.

Personal Perspective – Personally as a whole group, we see poverty
Nelson: I see poverty as people not having enough money, food, and shelter to
survive their daily lives. Poverty is affecting a considerable number of people in
Sierra Leone.
