2 Information required by the EIR
PAS1192-2:2013 Clause 5.3 defines the minimum contents of the Employers Information
Requirements. The following subsections of the BEP respond to the parts of the EIR that call for
stakeholders proposals.

2.1 Planning of Work and Data Segregation

The planning of work and data segregation relevant information for the project is described in detail
in later parts of the BEP, in particular Section 3 Management, Section 4 Planning and documentation
and Section 5 Standard method and procedure.

2.2 Co-ordination and Clash Detection

Each task team shall take ownership of their own Work in Progress (WIP) information and model(s)
and check and review these with their task team manager before issuing the information and
model(s) to the SHARED part of the Common Data Environment (CDE).

Models issued to the shared data environment are to be linked with the shared coordinates system
as described in the BIM protocols and then checked for clashes every time new revisions are
integrated.

If a clash is detected it should be reported to the stakeholders responsible for the items in conflict
who should then work with their own teams and the project team to resolve the clash.

If a clash is detected which cannot be resolved by the task team or the interface manager then the
lead designer shall be involved in the discussion to reach agreement and make the necessary
changes to the models.

Once the lead designer is satisfied that clashes have been resolved, both the local model and data
files can be published in there revised format for integration into central model files by the BIM
manager / Co-ordinator.

In order to maintain central model file continuity revision numbering and version control for all
stakeholders WIP models shall be kept in step between any model and its related information,
whenever either the model or the information is changed.

Specialist design, manufacturing and fabrication models shall be reviewed for clashes in the same
way as described above.

Clash checking shall be carried out during design, with particular focus on hard clashes and
construction tolerances.

Clash avoidance/checking shall be carried out during specialist design and development of the virtual
construction model, with particular focus on soft clashes (for example, positioning of insulation
around ductwork and pipework) and proximity checks for sensitive items and equipment.

8
BIM EXECUTION PLAN | XXXX/XX
Clash avoidance/checking shall continue during the construction process as the models are updated
with as-constructed information and checked against the construction tolerances specified in the
contract.

Construction or manufacturing defects or deviation out of tolerance shall be measured and the
models updated within a time agreed across the project (usually 24 or 48 hours) so that impact on
following trades can be checked and appropriate decisions can be taken. Responsibility for this
activity should be defined in the PEP.

To achieve spatial co-ordination when the software solutions of the individual teams are incapable
of a reasonable level of interoperability then clash renditions shall be used. The clash renditions shall
be made in the format of the viewing tool that has been chosen for the project. The clash rendition
for each model for each discipline shall be issued to the shared area along with all other deliverables
and be maintained in dated file structure relating directly to revision and issue dates.

The coordination and clash detection process described above should be employed to achieve the
requirements laid out in PAS 1192-2 clause 9.4.

2.3 Collaboration Process

Details of the collaboration process are required by the EIR and are described fully in section 4.2 of
this document.

2.4 Health & Safety / CDM Management

Health and safety and CDM management should be employed as noted in the agreed upon BIM
protocols with a collaborative approach used to design out risk where possible and all additional
risks detailed and scheduled out to enable draw down of the information and issue to relevant
interested parties.

2.5 Compliance Plan

This refers to the management and implementation of section 2.2 noted above and the consistent
use of the CDE ‘4 projects’ in line with the methodology described in the agreed upon BIM protocols
(AEC (UK) V2. For Autodesk Revit).

4.3 Agreed Matrix of Responsibilities across the Supply Chain
It is important to define who models what (the BIM Author) and to what Level of Detail (LOD).

There are 7 levels of detail defined in the PAS1192-2 which do not reflect specific modelling guidelines for any particular software, rather a generic
definition of model detail (graphical), how individual objects display themselves and the level of information as a minimum to answer the requirements
noted in the EIR.

4.4 Task information delivery plan (TIDP)
A task information delivery plan (TIDP) for each task within the project shall be prepared using the
template below so that the format is consistent with the format required for the master information
delivery plan. When completed by all team members the TIDPs should be published in this
document appendix and on the project extranet.

Table 13 – Template for task information delivery plans

Type Title 1 2 3 4

4.5 Master information delivery plan (MIDP)

The master information delivery plan (MIDP) shall be developed from the separate TIDPs produced
for each task within the project. This more detailed, co-ordinated MIDP must be developed and
agreed with the stakeholders. When completed the MIDP should be published in this document
appendix and on the project extranet (4 Projects) as a project plan.

5 Standard method and procedure
This section of the BEP covers the requirements of PAS1192-2 Clause 7.2.1 c).

5.1 Volume strategy

See Section 5.3 (file naming convention), sub-section Volume for the definitions and abbreviations of
volumes to be used on the project.

5.2 PIM origin and orientation

The origin and orientation of the project are based on the project location and its reference to other
global or local grids, for example Ordnance Survey. The Client team issued Topographical surveys
Ref: 14I 214/001, 14I 214/002 set out marked site station coordinates relative to the Ordnance
Survey.

5.4 Layer naming convention

Each discipline should provide with a full list of all layer names to be used on the project although
the use of Autodesk Revit as a BIM solution suggests that layer names are not necessary it is
beneficial to provide a layer naming convention so that any linked flies imported to BIM can be
affectively managed within the software allowing the filtering of imported information.

templates shall also be in the standard format for sharing and interoperability.

Drawing Sheet Scales

All drawing template must be rendered and presented at one of a number of approved scales, which are typically defined by the CAD
Manager. Scales other than those approved should not be used. The templates shall also be in the standard format for sharing and
interoperability.

1:2 1:2 Scale details show shape, dimensions and assembly of the separate construction elements

5.7 Annotations, dimensions, abbreviations and symbols

Each discipline should provide the Design Manager and the CAD manager with a full list to be used on the
project. This list should be published to all members of the project team to ensure consistency of the
document graphical presentation and shall be consistent throughout the project. Also see BS8541 Parts 1, 2, 3
and 4.

Dimensions should be derived automatically from the underlying CAD coordinates by using the 'associative
dimensioning' function of CAD systems. Dimensions should not be entered as 'text' as they are purely graphic
characters having no relationship with the underlying CAD coordinates and will cause the relative positions of
elements in a drawing to be compromised.

The project team should agree common units of measurement. These should include distance (e.g. metre and
millimetre) and angles (e.g. degrees/radians measured clockwise or counter clockwise).
