his son. Five years ago, Jacob's age was seven times that of
his son. What are their present ages?

4. Once a mule and a donkey were talking. The mule said, "I am
carrying more sacks than you. In fact, if you give me one of
your sacks, then I would have twice as many as you. If I give
a sack, our loads would be equal." How many sacks was
each animal carrying?

5. A railway half ticket costs half the full fare, but the
reservation charges are the same on a half ticket as on a full
ticket. One reserved first class ticket from the station A to B
costs Rs. 2530 . Also, one reserved first class ticket and one
reserved first class half ticket from A to B costs Rs. 3810 .
Find the full first class fare from station A to B and also the
reservation charges for a ticket.
6. The students of a class are made to stand in rows. If 3
students are extra in a row, there would be 1 row less. If 3
students are less in a row, there would be 2 rows more. Find
the number of students in the class.

7. Vijay had some bananas, and he divided them into two lots A
and B . He sold the first lot at the rate of Rs. 2 for 3 bananas
and the second lot at the rate of Rs. 1 per banana, and got a
total of Rs. 400 . If he had sold the first lot at the rate of Rs. 1
per banana, and the second lot at the rate of Rs. 4 for 5
bananas, his total collection would have been Rs. 460 . Find
the total number of bananas he had.

8. The ratio of incomes of two persons is 9 : 7 and the ratio of

their expenditures is 4 : 3 . If each of them saves Rs 200 per
month, find their monthly incomes.

9. The area of a rectangle gets reduced by 9 square units if its

length is reduced by 5 units and the breadth is increased by
3 units. If we increase the length by 3 units and breadth by 2
units, the area is increased by 67 square units. Find the
length and breadth of the rectangle.

second one containing 25% acid. How much of each should
be used to make 10 liters of a 40% acid solution?
11. Susan invested a certain amount of money in two
schemes A and B , which offer interest at the rate of 8 % per
annum and 9 % per annum, respectively. She received Rs.
1860 as annual interest. However, had she interchanged the
amount of investments in the two schemes, she would have
received Rs. 20 more as annual interest. How much money
did she invest in each scheme?

12. Places A and B are 100 km apart on a highway. one car

starts from A and another from B at the same time. If the car
travels in the same direction at different speeds, they meet in
5 hrs. If they travel towards each other they meet in one hour.
What is the difference of speeds in Km/hr of the two cars?

13. Yash scored 40 marks in a test, getting 3 marks for each

right answer and losing 1 mark for each wrong answer. Had
4 marks been awarded for each correct answer and 2 marks
been deducted for each incorrect answer, then Yash would
have scored 50 marks. How many questions were there in
the test?

14. Reversing the digits of a two digit number the number

obtained is 9 less than 3 times the original number if the
difference of these two numbers is 45 find the original
number
15. A money-lender, lends a part of his money at 10% per
annum and the rest at 15% per annum. His annual income is
1900. However, if he had interchanged the rate of interest on
the two sums, he would have earned 200 more. The amount
lent will fetch what 15%?
