GRAMMAR INFORMATION
Modal verbs that express a wide range of meaning (ability, permission, possibility, necessity, etc).
Most of modals could have more than one meaning and they are immediately followed by the simple
form of a verb
TENSE FORM USAGE
To make predictions or express future
certainty.
To state spontaneous decisions or
SIMPLE FUTURE Will + bass form promises.
To express future actions that are not
planned or arranged.
To express future plans, intentions, or
predictions based on present evidence.
BE GOING TO Am/is/are + going to Is not commoly used with stative
+base form verbs, such as Know, believe, love etc.
To talk about future actions that have
PRESENT already been scheduled or arranged
PROGRESSIVE Am / is/ are + verb + ing T describe future events with a specific
time or place.
Choice between these tenses dependes on the context and the speaker´s intention. The
simple future tense”will” is often used for general predictions or spontaneous decisions,
while “be going to” is used for planned or intended future actions. The presents
progressive tense is used for future actions that have already benn scheduled or arranged.
