Tutorial
| have provided a youtube tutorial that can be used as a
supplement to the written instructions, or as a
replacement.
Some steps will be much easier to follow in the video, so
| would recommend having a quick scan through the
video at the very least. | have provided prompts
throughout the written instructions for the steps that
might benefit from a look at the tutorial.

Fabric
This pattern has been created with a 4 way stretch
fabric in mind. I've used 95% cotton 5% elastane.
If you want to use woven fabric for this project, you can
use the table on page 10 to find your size along with
some extra adjustments.
Make sure you pre-wash any fabric to allow for
shrinkage and take shrinkage into account when
buying your fabric.
Where to buy?
There are a few places in particular that | buy most of
my fabric from;
- Jelly Fabrics
- Little Legs Fabrics
- Minerva
- Fashion Formula (for custom printed fabric)
| would also recommend etsy for finding fabrics, for this
particular project you could try searching 'cotton jersey’.
©KatieCrafting 4) 2023YOU WILL NEED
Fabric Requirements
This table can be used as a rough guide for the amount
of fabric you will need for each size of the top.
This table is for the sleeveless version of the top, see the
sleeves instructions for how much extra fabric you'll need.
The table is based on a fabric width of 1.5m.
If you are using a fabric with a pattern that needs to be
cut in a certain orientation, you will likely need a little
extra.

Machine & Stitch
| have used two sewing machines for this project, an
overlocker and a standard machine with zig zag stitch.
The overlocker is optional and you could use a standard
sewing machine for the entirety of the project. The use
of an overlocker might make the project slighty easier.
The standard sewing machine that | use is the Brother
LS14s.
The overlocker* that | use is the Brother Lock 734Ds.
Overlocker Settings
The settings | have used for my overlocker are below-
Tension - 4
Stitch length - 3
Differential feed - 1.0
Stitch width - SR
Standard Machine Settings
There is only one main setting that | can adjust for this
machine -
Upper tension - 4

©KatieCrafting 7) 2023HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR SIZE
Which Size Chart Shall | Use?
| have provided a number of size charts to help you
choose the right size for your pattern.
Body Measurements Size Chart
The first size chart, on page 9, will give you the rough
chest and waist measurements that | would recommend
for each size. This size chart should be used when you
are choosing a 4 way stretch fabric with lots of stretch.
Pattern Measurements Size Chart
The second size chart, on page 10, will give you the chest
and waist measurements for the basic pattern. This size
chart doesn't take stretch into account like the first size
chart does.
This size chart should be used when you are choosing a
woven fabric or fabric with little stretch.
Length Size Chart
The third size chart, on page 1], will give you the length of
the top.
©KatieCrafting 8) 2023HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR SIZE
Body Measurements
This size chart should be used if you are choosing a4
way stretch fabric.
It will give you an idea of the range of body
measurements that will work for each size, due to the
stretch of the fabric.
You will notice there is some overlap between sizes so
you should consider what kind of fit you'd like for the
final product.
For reference, all the photos of my top are a size S and
my chest measures 35 inches and waist measures 26
inches.

Pattern Measurements
This size chart gives you the basic measurements of the
pattern.
You will notice there is quite a difference between this
size chart and the one on the previous page. This is to
allow for the fabric to stretch.
You can use this table if you choose a fabric with little or
no stretch.
Any tops made using non-stretch fabric will also require
a fastening, | would recommend a zip down the side
seam. You may also need to add darts to the top.

Top Length
This size chart gives you the length for the back of the
top.
The length of the top is roughly measured from the top
of the shoulder to the waist.
The length will vary slightly due to the stretch of the
fabric.

©KatieCrafting 1) 2023PRINTING YOUR PATTERN
Printing
This pattern can be printed in three sizes A4, AO & US
Letter. A4 & US Letter will be perfect for home printers,
and AO is an option if you'd like to have the pattern
printed professionally.
If you're opting for home printing, make sure your
printer settings are set to ‘actual size’.
The pattern has been created in layers so you can choose
to only print the size you need.
If you're using Adobe Acrobat to open your PDF, the
button for choosing layers, looks like this gz
Once the pattern has printed, there is a Scm scale at the
top of each page, measure this to ensure your pattern
has printed at the correct size.
©KatieCrafting 12) 2023PRINTING YOUR PATTERN
Constructing Your Pattern
The A4 & US letter patterns will need to be pieced
together once printed.
Use the triangles on the edges of each page to line up
your pieces. You will likely have a border around the
pattern that you should cut away to match up the
triangles.
The printing plans over the next few pages should help
you to understand how to lay your pages out.
Half of the triangles are marked with a letter & number,
you should notice that the numbers are the same along
each row and the letters are the same along each
column.
Once your pages are lined up, tape them together and
cut the pattern out using the key to find which size
corresponds to which line.

©KatieCrafting 16) 2023CUTTING OUT YOUR PATTERN
Cutting Out Your Pattern
You will need to cut out 2 pieces for pattern piece 2, and
4 pieces for pattern piece 1.
For pattern piece 1 you will need to cut out 2 with edge f
facing left, and then flip the pattern and cut out another
2 with edge f facing right.
Two of these pieces will be used as a lining. If you prefer
to make a slightly thinner top, you can leave the lining
off and use a different technique to finish the raw edges.

CONSTRUCTION
Making A Top Without Sleeves
1. Start by taking two of your pieces for pattern piece 1,
lay them one on top of the other with right sides facing
together.
2. Pin along edges la, 1b, 1c and Tf, and sew in place with
an overlocker or zig zag stitch.
3. Optional - Take your flat braided elastic and sew this
on top of the seams you've just sewn in step 2. This will
add some extra structure to your top.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 for your remaining two pieces of
pattern piece 1.
5. Now take your two pieces for pattern piece 2 and
repeat steps 1-3. Leaving out the step to pin and sew
edge f.

6. You should now have two pieces for pattern piece 1,
and one for pattern piece 2.
Turn both pieces for pattern piece 1 to the right side out.
7. Take your two pieces for pattern piece 1 and place
them inside pattern piece 2, which should still be inside
out.
You will have to fold the ties to fit inside the piece.
8. Pin along edge d and edge e on each side. You should
be pinning through 4 layers of fabric now.
9. Sew in place with an overlocker or zig zag stitch.

TI. Now you just need to close up this hole, | would
recommend a ladder stitch by hand.
