1. Safety Information

1.1 Warnings

WARNING
A WARNING is a statement that alerts you to potential serious injury, death, serious
adverse reactions or safety hazards associated with the use or misuse of the
Spectrum IQ Infusion System.

WARNING
Operation is Limited to Baxter Trained Operators
Do not operate the Spectrum IQ infusion pump with the Dose IQ Safety Software
unless users have been trained in safe system operation and in safe IV therapy
practices.
Pump owners have sole responsibility for operator training and testing even when
Baxter personnel assist in the training.
Improper operation can result in serious injury or death to the patient.
Make sure that personnel are trained to use the device properly.

Static Sensitive Equipment


Do not touch the battery pin set on the rear case of the pump without being
grounded.
Damage to the equipment may result from electrostatic discharge.
Use an ESD grounding strap while pins are exposed.

Proper Disposal Required


To dispose of this device or the associated administration sets, adhere to local,
state, federal and/or other governing regulations.

Combustion Possible
Do not over heat, see storage and use temperatures.
Lithium-ion batteries might experience thermal runaway or cell rupture leading to
combustion, resulting in serious injury or death.
Charge the battery only with the Spectrum IQ Pump and Baxter approved AC Power
adaptor.

Battery Handling
Do not short circuit battery terminals, disassemble or modify battery packs, or
dispose of improperly.
Failure to handle battery properly can cause damage to the equipment and may
result in personal injury or death.
Follow safety precautions and label instructions when handling battery packs.

1.2 Cautions

CAUTION
A CAUTION is a statement that alerts you to a problem or unsafe practice which, if
not avoided, can cause potential minor or moderate personal injury or damage to the
system and surrounding property.

CAUTION
Static Sensitive Equipment
 Wherever possible, eliminate any electro-static producing materials or conditions
(dry, low humidity, synthetic materials such as blankets, carpeting, drapes, and
so forth).
 The pump is ESD sensitive when the Battery Module is removed.

Static Sensitive Components


 Static sensitive components will be exposed during this process. Perform this
procedure using proper anti-static techniques in an EOS/ESD (Electrical Over-
Stress/Electrostatic-Sensitive Discharge) safe work area.
 Failure to do so may result in component failure or degradation.

Preventive Maintenance Tests


All testing and evaluations require fluid and air temperature of
22.2°C ±1.1°C (72°F ±2°F).

Service Personnel Must be Trained by Baxter


Servicing the Spectrum IQ infusion pump is restricted to qualified, Baxter trained,
service personnel who employ Baxter authorized parts and procedures. Use of other
parts and servicing procedures is prohibited.

NOTE: Pump should not be serviced while in use on a patient.

Recyclable Battery Pack- Dispose of Properly.


The Spectrum IQ Infusion System contains a lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack
and a replaceable battery cell. Improper disposal can result in hazards to humans or
environmental conditions.
 Do not dispose of batteries in trash or in fire. These batteries are recyclable and
should be disposed of properly.
 Contact an authorized disposal center or return battery to Baxter for disposal if
an authorized disposal center cannot be found.

1. Safety Information

CAUTION
Avoid Bright Natural Sunlight or Artificial Overhead Light
Bright light (equivalent to greater than or equal to 100 watt incandescent bulb) within
30.5 cm (1 ft) above the pump’s keyhole (load point #1) may affect the pump’s ability
to recognize the Baxter slide clamp during set loading. To prevent alarms or
continuous system errors:
 Increase the distance between the pump and the light source.
 Move the pump to an adjacent location

Battery Maintenance
Always maintain the battery module following the recommended instructions in
Spectrum IQ Operator’s Manual (P/N 41018v0900 or 41018v0900FRE) to clean the
Battery Module.
 Test batteries for proper performance annually.
 Test batteries whenever damage from drops, fluid intrusion and other causes is
suspected.

Perform Preventive Maintenance after performing service per the Spectrum IQ Installation and
Maintenance Manual P/N 41019v0900 or 41019v0900FRE.

2.2 Servicing Steps


NOTE: All pictures are for reference only and may not match current revision of the
device/component.

NOTE: Prior to starting any repair activities, make sure AC power adaptor is not plugged
into an outlet and battery module is removed from Spectrum IQ device.

NOTE: Retain any parts that are not related to the target installation for reassembly.

2.2.1 Disconnecting the AC Adaptor from the Pump

1. Use a Phillips driver to remove the shroud securing
screws.
2. Pull the shroud up and off the pump.

3. Unscrew the locking collar on the power adaptor


connected to the pump.
4. Pull the power cord connector straight up and
disconnect from pump.

1. Using tweezers or an X-Acto knife, grasp the rubber
battery gasket.
2. Pull the gasket up and off the rear case.
3. Using an approved cleaner, remove any remaining
residue from the rear case.

NOTE: Disassemble per:

1. Examine the recessed area around the battery pins
and ensure there is no residue.
 If there is residue remove with approved
cleaner.
2. Remove paper backing of new gasket (P/N 41041-
CFG3).
3. Press gasket securely into recessed area around the
pins.

2.2.4 Removal of the Door Covers

1. Use the Baxter slide clamp to open the
door.
 Insert (tear drop cutout pointing
down) the slide clamp into loading
guide 1 and press down.
2. Using a 3/32 Allen driver unscrew the
door hinge screw.

NOTE: There is a door hinge nut inside


the outer door at the top end of
the pump that will come loose
once you begin unscrewing the
door hinge.

3. Pull the outer door screw out.
4. Remove the outer door cover by tilting
the outer door cover towards the keypad.
5. Pivot the outer side of the door cover
around toward the keypad and tilt the
door cover until the pins slide out of the
outer door cover channels.

6. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove


inner door cover screws at the edge of the
door.
7. Close the door.
8. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove
inner door cover screws on the front of
the inner door cover.
9. Pull inner door cover straight off the
door.

1. Using a soft brush apply grease Dow Corning
111 (P/N 90058) to both upper and lower
pins on the inner door cover (P/N 35777).
2. Open pump door, using a Baxter slide clamp,

3. Place the inner door cover on the door.


4. Apply a drop of adhesive Hernon 128 to the
threaded surface of two screws (P/N 60307)
5. Install two screws into the outer edge of the
door cover using a 29 in-oz torque driver
6. Using 2 thumbs press the door closed
7. Apply a drop of adhesive Hernon 128 to the
threaded surface of two screws (P/N 60307)
and secure the door cover using a 29 in-oz
torque driver.

NOTE: Reference the red dot indicators in


images to the right for locations.

8. Angle the door so that the bottom pin on the
inner door cover slides into the channel of the
outer door cover (P/N 45766).
9. Bring the top part of the outer door down and
place the top pin of the inner door into the
channel of the outer door cover.
10. Lift the outer door cover up and tilt so that
the top pin of the inner door cover slides into
the upper slot on the outer door cover.
Ensure that the lower inner door cover pin
remains in the outer door cover slot as this is
performed.

11. Slide the door nut (P/N 50846) into the outer
door with the angled edge facing the recess.
12. Insert outer door screw (P/N 95298) (screw
side first).
13. Close door.

14. Using a torque driver set to 40 in-oz with a
3/32 Allen wrench bit, secure the outer door
screw.

NOTE: Visually inspect there is no visible


gap between the outer diameter of
the screw head and the outer door
cover.

15. Using the Baxter slide clamp open the door.


16. Make sure the outer door screw has been
fully seated, but does not contact the inner
door cover. It may continue past the outer
door cover as seen in the image to the right.
17. Open and close door multiple times to make
sure door opens freely.

1. Use the Baxter slide clamp to open the door.
 Insert (tear drop cutout pointing down)
the slide clamp into loading guide 1 and
press down.
2. Using a Phillips screwdriver remove the four
(4) screws.
3. Pull up both Keyhole Cup (P/N 40157) and
Keyhole Cap (P/N 45709-CFG3).

2.2.7 Cleaning the Keyhole Cup

1. Separate the Keyhole Cup (P/N 40157) from the
Keyhole Cap (P/N 45709-CFG3).

2. Using a lint-free, foam tipped swab, apply cleaning


agent and clean all soiled surfaces of the Keyhole Cap
and Keyhole Cup.
3. Dispose of cleaning materials as required per facility
protocol / biohazard policy.
4. Allow all parts to fully dry before reassembly.

NOTE: If cleaning is not sufficient, a replacement


Keyhole Assembly kit may be ordered.

1. Using locating pins, ensure the Keyhole Cap
(P/N 45709-CFG3) is properly aligned with
the subassembly Keyhole Cup (P/N 40157).
2. Press the gasket onto the pins.

3. Place the keyhole assembly into the rear case,


cup side down.
4. Apply drop of adhesive Hernon128 to the
threaded surface of four screws (P/N 60307)
and secure the keyhole assembly to the rear
case using a 29 in-oz torque driver.

1. Place the pump face-down on a padded
surface to prevent damage to the keypad and
screen.
2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the six
(6) screws securing the case halves.

NOTE: There is a flex cable that connects


the cases. Take care to not damage
or rip the flex.

3. Slowly pull apart the rear case, tilting the top


of the case away from the bottom until the
case is open.

NOTE: The bottom halves of the pump


case should be adjacent to one
another.

1. In the front case, gently lift up on
each tab of the J3406 connector.

NOTE: Ensure that both ends of


the connector are lifted up
so that the flex connector
can release from the PCB.

NOTE: The orange stick or


tweezers can be used for
this step.

2. Pull the ribbon cable straight up to


disconnect.

1. Confirm that the following installations have
occurred:
 The Rear Case Sealing Wall per Rear

 Roof Gasket installed per Roof Gasket

2. Place the cases so that the bottom ends of
each case are adjacent to one another.
3. Grasp the 30 pin flex connector attached to
the rear case.
4. Gently pull it over to the front case.

NOTE: Do not twist the 30 pin flex


connector.

NOTE: The words on the flex should be


facing away from the rear board.

5. Slide the flex into the J3406 connector.
6. Make sure that the flex tail is parallel to the
connector.
7. Press the tabs of the connector down to lock
the 30 pin flex in place.

NOTE: This task can be completed with the


orange stick or tweezers.

8. Grasp the top end of the rear case.


9. Lift and pull over to the front case.
10. Align the case halves and set the rear case
onto the front case.

NOTE: Make sure that there are no


components that are sticking out of
the cases or that could be pinched
when closing the case halves.
11. Press the rear case onto the front case.
12. On the threaded surface of the 6 case closing
screws (P/N 60306), apply a drop of adhesive
Hernon 128.
13. Using a 40 in-oz torque driver, screw the 6
case closing screws (P/N 60306) into place.
 Upon completion, perform:

1. Pull the roof gasket (P/N 40168) straight out of the
recess
 Upon completion, perform:

1. On the top of the pump, press the slot of the Roof
Gasket, (P/N 40168) onto the tab on the front case.
2. Press the Roof Gasket, into the recess on both sides
of the tab.
 Upon completion, perform:

 Remove Rear Case Assembly (35701-
CFG3) on page 2-14
1. Using an orange stick or tweezers on the display-
side of the front case, remove a portion of the O-
ring (P/N 95295) out of the recess.
2. Remove the remainder of the O-ring by pulling
straight away from the recess around the perimeter
of the device.

NOTE: Take care not to puncture, rip, or damage


the O-ring if not installing a new part.

1. Peel off motor spacer (P/N 42033-CFG3).

NOTE: Tweezers, an orange stick, or another


tool may be used to assist with spacer
removal.

2. Clean surface using a compatible cleaner, ensuring


no remnants of previous motor spacer remain.
3. Place one Rear Case Motor Spacer (P/N 42033-
CFG3) on the plastic riser in between the two lower
right Pump Side Adaptor screws.

1. Confirm the tabs are up and open on the rear board.


2. With the words facing up, insert the 30-pin flex
cable (P/N 60314) into the rear board.
3. Gently push down until the 30-pin flex is fully
seated within the connector and the copper is no
longer visible.
4. Using the orange stick push the tabs down on the
clip to lock the flex in place.
 Upon completion, perform:

1. On the inside of the rear case, orient the Rear Case
Sealing Wall (P/N 35756) so that the hour glass
shape is at the bottom end of the pump.
2. Slide the Sealing Wall onto the pins.
3. Push down so the Rear Case Sealing Wall (P/N
35756) is fully seated against the rear case.

1. On the outside of the rear case of the
pump place the new Pump Side Adaptor
(P/N 35745-CFG3) with the open side to
the bottom end of the pump and align
with the 6 screw holes.
2. Apply a drop of Hernon 128 to the
thread tips of the six 4-40 x 1/4” Phillips
screws (P/N 95015).
3. On the inside of the pump use the 40 in-
oz Phillips bit torque driver to secure
the Pump Side Adaptor (P/N 35745-
CFG3) to the rear case using 6 screws
(P/N 95015).

3.1 Calibrations

3.1.1 Optical Tube Sensor Calibration

The following instructions are for the Spectrum IQ Infusion System running version 9 of the
pump operating system.

The Optical Tube Sensor is located in the Pump's tubing channel at Load Guide 2, and detects
when an IV set is properly loaded at Load Guide 2. Failure to recognize a loaded IV set, repeated
“Load Point 2” errors, and other failures related to the Optical Tube Sensor are often caused by
debris or fluid blocking the sensor, requiring the sensor to be cleaned. For cleaning instructions,
refer to Installation & Maintenance Manual (P/N 41019v0900 or 41019v0900FRE).

After cleaning the Optical Tube Sensor, the sensor must be calibrated.

Required Equipment:
 Spectrum IQ Infusion Pump
 1-2 Baxter Test IV Set(s) (P/N 99051-1) filled with water to form a loop

3. Calibration

Calibrating the Optical Tube Sensor:


1. Plug the Pump’s AC Power Adaptor into an AC power outlet or ensure the pump has a
charged WBM installed.

2. Press the key to power on the pump.


3. Ensure that the pump door is closed, with no IV set loaded in the pump.
4. At the Select Care Area screen, press the options menu soft key.

5. Press the arrow soft keys to select Biomed Options and press .

6. Enter the second (2nd) level Biomed password and press

7. Press the arrow soft keys to select Calibration and press .

8. Press the arrow soft keys to select Sensor Calibration and press .

9. Press the arrow soft keys to select Optical Tube Sensor and press .

10. Press the arrow soft keys to select Calibrate Sensor and press .

The “Calibrate Sensor, Remove tube from #2” prompt appears.


11. Open door by placing the Baxter slide clamp that is attached to the Baxter Test IV Set into
the keyhole and push down.

The “Calibrate Sensor, Load water filled tube into #2” prompt appears.
12. Follow the prompts and load a water filled IV set into load guide #2.

13. Press to continue.


14. The Calibrate Sensor, Remove tube from #2, prompt appears.
15. Follow the prompts and remove the water filled IV set from load guide #2.

16. Press to continue.

The device will prompt the user to repeat the loading and removal of the water filled IV set into
load guide #2 for two (2) additional cycles.
 If there is a misread during the loading/unloading calibration process, the pump will
prompt the user to reload or restart.
17. When complete and the “Calibrate Sensor, Remove tube from #2 and close door” prompt
appears, unload the IV set from Tubing Guide #2 and close the pump door.
 If the calibration is successful, the pump will display the calibrated values for No Tube
and Tube with the message Calibration Complete. The values on the screen are the
average value seen by the optical tube sensor when there is a tube present and when
there is no tube present.
 If the calibration fails, the Calibrate Sensor screen appears with the message, “Restart
(T inconsistent),” “T inconsistent (Tube inconsistent),” or “NT inconsistent (No Tube
inconsistent)” will appear when either the Tube or No Tube values are too far apart.
The calibration will need to be restarted to obtain more consistent data for proper
calibration. Re-inspect and clean the Optical Tube Sensor at Load Guide #2, and restart
the calibration procedure.

NOTE: If second calibration fails, contact Baxter Technical Support at 800.356.3454.

18. Press the exit soft key as needed to return to the Select Care Area screen.
19. Perform all preventive maintenance activities per the Spectrum IQ Installation &
Maintenance Manual (P/N 41019v0900 or 41019v0900FRE) once Optical Tube
Sensor Calibration is complete.

3.1.2 Verification of Optical Tube Sensor Calibration


Once calibrated, review the Minimum, Maximum, and Current readings.

Ensure that the pump door is closed and the tubing channel is empty. Follow the steps below to
access these readings:

Verification of Optical Tube Sensor Calibration

1. Press the key to power on the pump.


2. At Select Care Area screen, select the options menu soft key.

3. Press the arrow soft keys to select Biomed Options and press .

4. Enter the Level Two Biomed Option Passcode and press .

5. Select Calibration and press .

6. Select Sensor Calibration and press .

7. Press the arrow soft keys to select Optical Tube Sensor and press .

8. Press the arrow soft keys to select Check Calibration and press .
9. Review the Minimum, Maximum, and Current readings against the below specifications.
 Min (-5 to +10%)
 Max (-5 to +10%)
 Current (-5 to +5%)

NOTE: If readings are out of specification, re-attempt Optical Tube Sensor Calibration.

 If after the second attempt the readings are still out of specification, contact
Technical Support.

3.1.3 Optical Tube Sensor Calibration - Troubleshooting


Make sure that the Optical Tube Sensor at Load Point #2 has been cleaned with a damp swab
(use a compatible cleaner) and allowed to dry thoroughly.

NOTE: For cleaning instructions, refer to the Installation and Maintenance Manual (P/N
41019v0900).

If a CLEAN LOAD PT#2 error message displays on the pump and prevents accessing the Options
Menu, follow the procedure below to bypass this error message.

NOTE: If both troubleshooting options below are unsuccessful, contact Baxter Technical
Support.

3. Calibration

Troubleshooting Option 1

1. Press the key to power on the pump. The pump may not be in either AC Sleep Mode
or Battery Sleep Mode.
2. Press and hold down the 5 key on the numeric keypad.

3. While holding down the 5 key, press to power the pump off.
NOTE: If DUE FOR INSPECTION is enabled, do not “press OK to shutdown now.”

4. While continuing to hold down the 5 key, press to power the pump back on.
5. The pump will power on and go directly to the Options Menu screen.
Proceed to Biomed Options to calibrate the Optical Tube Sensor.

Troubleshooting Option 2
1. Unplug the pump AC Power Adaptor.
2. Remove the Battery Module.
3. Open the pump door.
4. Load a fluid-filled set.
5. Close the door.
6. Open the door and remove the fluid-filled set.
7. Repeat steps 4, 5, and 6 three (3) times.
8. With the tubing channel empty, close the door.
9. Attach the Battery Module.
10. Power on the pump and proceed to Biomed Options to calibrate the Optical Tube Sensor.

3.1.4 Color Sensor Calibration


If the keyhole assembly is damaged, dirty, or assembled improperly the user may receive a
System Error 323 Color Sensor Error (Timeout), or 324 Color Sensor Failure, or a Reload Set
error.
 See Cleaning the Keyhole Cup on page 2-11 and Keyhole Assembly Removal on page 2-
10 of this manual for further instruction.

These instructions provide the procedure to calibrate the Slide Clamp Color Sensor after the
Keyhole is cleaned or replaced. If re-calibration of the Slide Clamp Color Sensor does not clear
the errors, contact Baxter Technical Support at 800.356.3454.

Required Equipment:
 Spectrum IQ Infusion Pump
 Baxter Slide Clamp (P/N 55947)

Calibrating the Slide Clamp Color Sensor:


1. Plug the Pump's AC Power Adaptor into an AC power outlet or ensure the pump has a
charged WBM installed.

2. Press the key to power on the pump.


3. At the Select Care Area screen, press the options menu soft key.

4. Press the arrow soft keys to select Biomed Options and push .

5. Enter the second (2nd) level Biomed password and press .

6. Press the arrow soft keys to select Calibration and press .

7. Press the arrow soft keys to select Sensor Calibration and press .

8. Press the arrow soft keys to select Slide Clamp Sensor and press .

9. Press the arrow soft keys to select Calibrate Sensor and press .
10. Following the prompts, insert a Baxter Slide Clamp into the pump’s keyhole, without

opening the door and press .


11. A screen appears displaying color frequencies measured by the slide clamp color sensor.

12. Remove the slide clamp from the pump’s keyhole and press .

13. A “Calibration complete, Push to exit” prompt appears on the screen.

NOTE: Actual values displayed (Red Hz, Green Hz, Blue Hz) are for Factory Engineering
only.

14. Press to exit the Slide Clamp Color Sensor Calibration.


15. Press the exit soft key as needed to return to the Select Care Area Screen.
 If the calibration fails, an “Error in Calibration” message will appear.
 Failure in the Slide Clamp Color Sensor Calibration could occur as a result of the
following:
– Slide clamp not fully inserted into the keyhole
– Bright light shining into the keyhole
– Fluid in the Keyhole Cup
– Cloudy, dirty, or damaged Keyhole Cup
– Debris in the Keyhole Cup (possibly including broken slide clamp pieces)
– Improper installation of the Slide Clamp Inner Housing
 Ensure that the keyhole assembly is properly installed, and then repeat the
calibration.
 If error repeats, contact Baxter Technical Support at 800.356.3454
16. Perform all preventive maintenance activities per the Spectrum IQ Installation &
Maintenance Manual (P/N 41019v0900 or 41019v0900FRE) once Slide Clamp Color
Calibration is complete.

4.1 Testing
Upon completion of service replacements/testing per this manual, perform Pump Operation
Preventive Maintenance Testing and complete the data sheets per the Installation and
Maintenance Manual (P/N 41019v0900 or 41019v0900FRE).

4.1.1 Rear Case Replacement Test

To be performed when Rear Case Assembly / Closing the Case Halves has been completed:
1. Install a Battery Module onto the rear of the Pump.
2. Ensure that the AC Power Adaptor is not plugged into an AC power outlet.

3. With the Pump powered only by the Battery Module, press to power on the Pump.
4. Verify that the Pump emits an audible beep when powered on.

NOTE: If the Pump does not power on, verify the battery level and charge the battery if
necessary.

5. Turn off the pump.


6. Plug the AC Power Adaptor into an AC power outlet and confirm that the pump screen
reads: “Charging” or “Charge Complete”.
