Reflection on NSTP Lesson
The National Service Training Program (NSTP) has been a transformative part
of my educational journey, offering insights that go beyond the classroom. As we
discussed the different topics in class, I began to appreciate how NSTP aims to shape
us not just into skilled individuals, but responsible and active citizens who contribute
to the positive change of nation’s progress. From the preamble of the Constitution to
the various duties and responsibilities of Filipino citizens, NSTP has provided a
framework for understanding how each of us can play a role in building a better society.
The preamble stood out to me as a guiding principle for our actions as citizens.
It speaks of promoting the common good, truth, justice, peace and values that are
crucial to creating a harmonious society. This reminded me that democracy is not
something we should take for granted; it requires our active participation. As students,
we have the opportunity to shape the future of our country, and through NSTP, we are
encouraged to embrace this responsibility. The lessons also highlighted the
importance of upholding human dignity, respecting the rights of others, and
contributing to the well-being of our communities.
The duties and responsibilities of a Filipino, as outlined In the Citizen’s
Movement for a Federal Philippines (CMFP), further reinforced this idea of responsible
citizenship. Loyalty to the country, participation in civic activities, and respect for
human life are not just abstract ideals but they are a concrete actions that each of us
is called to embody. One aspect that resonated with me was the responsibility of the
youth, which emphasizes the need to develop our intellectual, moral, and social well-
being in service to the common good. This made me reflect on how I can use my
education and skills not just for personal success, but to benefit the larger community.
The NSTP Law (R.A. 9163) Itself is an affirmation of the government’s trust in
the youth. By involving students in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC),
Literacy Training Service (LTS), and Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), the
program equips us with the tools to serve the nation in different ways. Whether through
military preparedness, education, or community service, the NSTP offers us the
chance to engage in meaningful activities that contribute to national development. I
personally find the CWTS component particularly inspiring, as it allows us to directly
participate in improving the lives of those in our communities through various welfare
and development projects.
Moreover, learning about the historical evolution of the NSTP and its
predecessors, like the National Defense Act and Republic Act 7077, gave me a deeper
understanding of how civic and military training have long been intertwined with
Filipino education. These laws reflect a long-standing commitment to ensuring that the
youth are prepared not only for personal success but also for national service,
embodying the spirit of patriotism and civic responsibility.
In conclusion, my learnings with NSTP has been more than just a requirement
for my course and graduation, it is truly has been a journey toward understanding my
role as a citizen of the Philippines. It has instilled in me a deeper sense of patriotism
and responsibility, reminding me that the youth are not just the future of the country
but also its present. By engaging in activities that promote civic consciousness and
national defense, we can ensure that we are contributing to a more just, peaceful, and
prosperous nation.
