Simple Present Tense
Sructure :
- Affirmative Sentences (Positive Sentences)
 Subject + Base Verb (in the present form)
For most subjects (I, you, we, they), use the base form of the verb
(without any changes):
 I play soccer.
 You work hard.
 We study English.
For he, she, or it, add an -s or -es to the verb in the affirmative:
 He plays soccer.
 She works hard.
 It rains a lot here.

Summary of Simple Present Structure

Affirmative Negative Question

I play. I don’t play. Do I play?

You play. You don’t play. Do you play?

He/She/It plays. He/She/It doesn’t play. Does he/she/it play?

We play. We don’t play. Do we play?

They play. They don’t play. Do they play?

Simple Past Tense


- Affirmative Sentences (Positive Sentences)
For regular verbs, add -ed to the base form of the verb. For irregular
verbs, the form changes, and you need to memorize the specific past
tense form.
 Subject + Past Verb (Regular or Irregular)
Regular Verbs:
 I watched TV last night.
 You studied for the test.
 She cleaned the house.
Irregular Verbs:
 He went to the store.
 They ate lunch at noon.
 She saw a movie yesterday.

Summary of Simple Past Structure

Affirmative Negative Question

I watched a movie. I didn't watch a movie. Did I watch a movie?

You studied English. You didn't study English. Did you study English?

He went to the park. He didn't go to the park. Did he go to the park?

We ate lunch. We didn't eat lunch. Did we eat lunch?

They saw the movie. They didn't see the movie. Did they see the movie?
Present continuous Tense
- Affirmative Sentences (Positive Sentences)
 Subject + am/ is/ are + verb + -ing
Examples:
 I am studying English.
 You are reading a book.

Affirmative Negative Question

I am eating breakfast. I am not eating breakfast. Am I eating breakfast?

You are reading a book. You are not reading a book. Are you reading a book?

He is playing soccer. He is not playing soccer. Is he playing soccer?

We are studying English. We are not studying English. Are we studying English?

They are watching a movie. They are not watching a movie. Are they watching a movie?

Past continuous Tense


- Affirmative Sentences (Positive Sentences)
The Past Continuous is formed with the past tense of the verb "to
be" (was/were) + verb + -ing (the present participle form of the verb).
 Subject + was/were + verb + -ing
Examples:
 I was studying all night.
 You were working when I called.

Affirmative Negative Question


I was studying all night. I wasn't studying all night. Was I studying all night?

You were working at 7 PM. You weren't working at 7 PM. Were you working at 7 PM?

He was reading at 8 PM. He wasn't reading at 8 PM. Was he reading at 8 PM?

We were watching a movie. We weren't watching a movie. Were we watching a movie?

They were playing soccer. They weren't playing soccer. Were they playing soccer?
