Performance Task #4: Writing a Critique Paper on The Hunger Games Using a Literary Approach

Objective: The goal of this activity is to analyze the film The Hunger Games (2012) through one of the
following literary approaches: Reader-Response, Moralist, Feminist, Marxist, or Formalist. You will
demonstrate your understanding of these critical lenses and apply them to the film’s content, themes, and
characters.

Instructions:
1. Select a Literary Approach:
Choose one of the following critical approaches to frame your analysis:
o Reader-Response: Focus on how the film engages with the audience, how it might evoke
emotional responses, or how viewers interpret it in different ways.
o Feminist: Examine the representation of gender, especially the role of women. Discuss
how female characters are portrayed and what the film says about feminism and gender
dynamics.
o Marxist: Analyze the film through the lens of class struggle, power, and economic
disparity. Discuss the portrayal of different social classes, the portrayal of wealth and
poverty, and the dynamics of control and rebellion.
o Formalist: Analyze the film’s use of filmic techniques, such as cinematography, editing,
sound, and structure. Focus on the formal elements of the film and how they contribute to
its meaning.

2. Write Your Critique Paper:


o Introduction (1 paragraph):
