QUESTION ONE

Information systems are fundamental to the seamless execution of daily business operations. They
automate and manage a wide array of business processes, including but not limited to inventory
management, customer relations, and payroll. As a student of Information Systems, respond to the
following;
(a) Define an Information System. (05 marks)
(b) Discuss the components that make up an information system explaining the role each component
plays in the functioning of an Information System (10 marks)
(c) Describe the different types of Information systems citing the levels of management they support
in organizations. (10 marks)

Information is critical to the survival of any organization as it guides decision making which leads to
production and service delivery, as a student of Information Systems, elaborate on the following;
a. Clearly differentiate between Information and Data (05 Marks)
b. Explain the characteristics of good Information (10 Marks)
c. Discuss the various areas where Information Systems are applied in our society today.

QUESTION THREE
Mawundo Property Agency a private company doing business in Entebbe would like to implement its
newly developed Information System, however to successfully implement the new system the company
must purchase laptops for its 100 staff members, several hardware and software vending companies
have expressed interest to supply laptops to the 100 staff;
a. Guide Mawundo Property Agency on how they can select the best hardware and software
vending company (15 marks)
b. While acquiring the above laptops, what factors must the technical team at Mawundo Property
Agency put into consideration to evaluate their suitability

QUESTION FOUR
After information systems are developed, they must be tested to ensure they conform to both user and
system requirements, assuming you were part of a team developing a Students’ Records Management
System for University of Kisubi, respond to the following;
a) Discuss the different types of software testing that you would implement to ensure the above
information system conforms to both user and system requirements? (10Marks)
b) Discuss the different project management techniques you would utilize to ensure success of the above
information system development project (15 marks)

University of Kisubi has procured a staff and students lecture attendance monitoring system and would
like to implement it;
a) Educate University of Kisubi on the different options that can be utilized to convert from the old
system of attendance monitoring to implementation of the new system.

b) Among the options discussed above, which one is suitable for implementing the above system, give
reasons for your choice (05 marks)
c) Why would staff and students of University of Kisubi resist adoption of a new attendance monitoring
system, how can University of Kisubi management ensure successful implementation of such a system
without facing resistance from staff and students.

with a big online presence are heavily targeted. As an expert in Information Systems Security, you have
been invited to a workshop on cybercrime and security, discuss the following;

b. Examples of computer crimes (05 marks)
c. The types of controls that can be put in place to secure information systems in organizations

d. Do you believe computer ethics has a role to play in reducing the rate of computer crimes,
