Activity No.1

HOMOGENEOUS MIXTURE: DIY DISH WASHING LIQUID SOAP

I. OBJECTIVES
1. To Perform homogeneous mixture using the available chemicals and apparatuses in the lab.
2. To make liquid dishwashing soap in the lab.
3. To determine the physical properties of the homemade liquid dish washing soap.
II. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

An alternate dishwashing liquid is a substitute for readily accessible dishwashing detergent. It is

frequently produced with natural, environmentally friendly, or readily available household items. These
alternatives may successfully clean dishes, cut grease, and remove food crumbs without the use of synthetic
chemicals commonly found in commercial products. They are ideal for anyone wishing to save money,
minimize waste, or avoid harmful substances in their cleaning regimen.
A study by Ahmed et al. (2017), a dishwashing liquid containing lemon extract effectively removed
food stains and grease from dishes. It emphasized the environmentally friendly solution as a viable and
affordable substitute for synthetic detergents, meeting the needs of households seeking to save the
environment without compromising cleaning efficacy. More studies back up the safety and effectiveness of
natural ingredients like citric acid in dishwashing solutions, showing that they function on par with or better
than traditional ones in terms of grease removal and antibacterial qualities. These results highlight the
increasing trend towards eco-friendly and sustainable cleaning products.
Eco-friendly dishwashing liquids can significantly contribute to a more sustainable and healthful
future by providing cleaning performance equivalent to conventional products while being healthier and
safe (Gómez et al. 2019). These substitutes lessen the need for artificial chemicals, which are frequently
linked to negative effects on the environment and certain health hazards. Eco-friendly dishwashing solutions
reduce water pollution, improve user safety, and adhere to green living ideals by using natural,
biodegradable components.
Kamias (A. bilimbi) fruit extract as an additive in the production of dishwashing liquid. Physical and
microbial tests were performed to ensure the dishwashing liquid's quality, consistency and microbial safety.
High concentrations of citric and oxalic acids found in Kamias are efficient at dissolving oil and dirt. Kamias is
a helpful element for dishwashing because these acids function as natural degreasers. Its inherent
antibacterial qualities aid in the removal of germs and other microorganisms from dishes, guaranteeing
hygienic conditions.
These studies on alternative dishwashing liquids have studied a range of natural substances for their
cost-effectiveness, efficiency at cleaning, and environmental advantages. Emphasize how local and natural
components can be used to make safe, efficient, and eco-friendly substitutes for store-bought dishwashing
detergents.

III. MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT/CHEMICALS
EQUIPMENT CHEMICALS
(1) Beaker 500ml & 300ml - Water 9.5 L - Scent 16.13 ml
(1) Spatula - Surfactant 748 g - Bubble Enhancer (powder) 3.4 g
(1) 25ml graduated cylinder - Thickener 481 g - 5 in 1 Preservative, Neutralizer,
- Foam Booster 75. 36ml
- EDTA, Anti back, and Moisturizer 71. 57 ml
- Degreaser 39. 26ml
- Colorant 22. 16ml
IV. METHODOLOGY
1. Prepare the ingredients by Calculating the adjusted amounts of each ingredient based on the desired
total volume of 9.5 L
2. Mix water and Surfactant by Measured 9.5 L of water and pour it into a large mixing container.
3. Gradually add 748 g of surfactant to the water, stirring continuously to ensure proper dispersion.
4. Slowly add 734.94 g of thickener to the mixture while stirring to avoid clumping.
5. Gradually pour the colorant (16.13mL), foam booster (75.36mL.), degreaser (39.26ml), scent (15 g),
and the 5-in-1 component (110 mL), mix thoroughly after putting each together.
6. Stir the mixture for an extended period (at least 20 minutes) to ensure all ingredients are well
combined and a homogeneous mixture is achieved.
7. Examine the final product for consistency, color, and fragrance.
8. Seal the mixture and let it rest for 24hrs.

V. DATA RESULTS & CALCULATIONS

QUANTITY UNITS DESCRIPTION

9.5 L WATER
748 g Surfactant
481 g Thickener (salt)
75. 36 mL Foambooster
39. 26 mL Degreaser
22. 16 mL Colorant
16. 13 mL Scent
3.4 g Bubble Enhancer (powder)
71. 57 mL 5 in 1 Preservative, Neutralizer,
EDTA, Anti back, and Moisturizer
VI. CONCLUSION
The laboratory exercise effectively demonstrated the flow of the process, how to measure and combine
those different components to create a DIY dish washing liquid. The experiment illustrated that blending
ensures the dispersion of ingredients on the molecular level to have an appealing texture, and consistent
appearance. In making DIY dishwashing liquid it follows the process to prove that it is and sustainable and
affordable product that can be used in cleaning. The experiment highlighted the importance of following
precise measurements and sequences in combining ingredients to ensure a successful outcome. It also
showed how patience and attention to detail during the blending process can lead to a superior final product
with pleasing consistency and performance.
