DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 4

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to;
a. identify how force can change an object’s shape,
b. recognize the importance of force in daily living, and
c. demonstrate hoe force can change an object’s shape.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: How force can change an object’s shape

Materials: Visual Aids, PPT, real objects, TV
References: Everyday Science Textbook IV page 149-157
Process Skills: Observing, comparing and analyzing
Values Integration: Giving importance pf force in daily living.

III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Pupils’ Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
Please stand and let us pray… In the name of the father, the son and the holy
spirit, amen….
2. Greetings
Good morning, children. Good morning, teacher than.
3. Energizer
Let us sing the song, “oh, it’s science time ”oh, it’s science time after all”
after all” ”oh, it’s science time after all”
”oh, it’s science time after all”
”oh, it’s science time after all”
4. Checking of Attendance
Are there any absent from the class? None, teacher.

5. Recalling of the classroom rules

Before we begin our class, let us recall
the what to do during our class. Class Rules:
 Be prepared
 Be positive
 Be productive
 Be respectful
 Be participative
B. Developing Activities
1. Review It is about food chain, teacher. This
What was our topic last meeting? composed of organisms that obtain
energy by consuming other organisms.

These are the primary consumers like

Will you give us the three (3) rabbit, goat and cow. The secondary
consumers? consumers are squid, frog and chicken.
Lastly, the tertiary consumers, these are
lion, shark and snake.

These are grasses, algae and trees

Can you give us an example of
producers? Bacteria and fungi
Can you give us an example of
decomposers?

Good job!
I am happy because you are still
remembering our lesson last
meeting.
I want you to give yourself a very
good clap by Aling Dionesia.

good!

A. Engage
I will show you a movement using my
body without noise. All you have to do is
guess what I am trying to portray.

Are you now ready, grade 4?

(the teacher are giving movements)

B. Explore
Let us have a group activity. I will group
you into 4 groups. I will give you a
situation to do and prepare for at least 5
minutes and after you will present it in
front of the class. I will ask information
about your task. Please be guided the
table below.
materials predictions observations

Group 1: (stretching)
 Create an oval shape using the
rubber band.
 Try to sketch the rubber band by
pushing it away from you.
 Then, gently pull the rubber band
towards you.
 Observe how the force of
pushing and pulling change the
shape of the rubber band.
Group 2: (bending)
 Carefully bend each object in
different directions.
 Observe how the force of
bending affects each object.
Group 3: (twisting)
 Use cloth/towel
 Then, twist the cloth/towel.
 Observe how force of twisting
changed the shape of the
cloth/towel.
Group 4: (squeezing)
 Mold another shape using the
clay.
 Then, use your hands tom
squeeze your formed shape.
 Note the changes in shape due to
the force of squeezing.

Are you now ready? Yes, teacher.

Lesson Proper
C. Explain
1. Group Reporting
I will now give the floor to you for
the presentation of your output.
Presentation of outputs:
Group 1,……
Group 2,……
Group 3,……
Group 4,……
(the teacher ask questions about (the answers of the pupils may vary)
their observations)
Give yourself a Force clap! 1,2,3…1,2,3…. Push, pull,… Force!
1,2,3…1,2,3….push, pull….force…….
2. Discussion
Let us dive into our new lesson for
today which is about the force and
how it can change an object’s shape.

When we say force, simply it refers to

a push or pull that is capable of
influencing an object’s behavior.
Pushing, it is simply moving objects away from
When we say push, what is that the source.
mean? how do we do this? Can you (the pupil are pushing an object)
show to us?
Pull, it is simply moving objects towards the
When we say pull, what is that source.
mean? how do we do this? Can you (the pupil are pulling an object)
show to us?

To understand the practical functions

of push and pull, you can observe the
everyday actions of the people
around you.

Now, your activity awhile ago has a

connection in our topic today. Let us
discuss how force can change the
shape of objects.

We have here four (4) types:

1. Stretching- lengthens and
extends an objects. For
instances, when you stretched
a rubber band, you apply force
that temporarily change its
shape.
2. Bending- means applying force
what curves or flexes an object.
For example, a flexible plastic
rules being bent.
3. Twisting- applies rational or
circular forces, causing objects to
rotate around axis. For
example, wringing a wet cloth
and turning a key in a lock.
4. Squeezing- involves applying
force to compress or change the
volume of an object.
Force is an invisible helper that affects everything
around you.

D. Elaborate The force can be push or pull that are applied to

1. Generalization an object away or toward from the source of
Will you try to elaborate this force. This can change an objects through
diagram? bending, stretching, twisting and squeezing.

It is because of the push and pull that allows us to

Why force is important? do almost anything. And this will be the driving
force behind all movements.
Very good!
Yes, teacher!
Do you understand our lesson?

If you still have some questions do not hesitate to

ask.

E. Evaluate
Identify how force affects the shape
of an object in each number. Under
the column FORCE, write PUSHING,
PULLING, STRETCHING, BENDING,
TWISTING or SQUEEZING to indicate
the force that applied in each
situation.

FORCE SITUATION Answers:

1. Lucy tries to open a 1. Pull
sticky drawer. 2. Stretching
2. Ryan plays with aspring 3. Bending
toy, expanding and 4. Squeezing
contracting it. 5. Push
6. Twisting
3. Ken uses a stapler to
bind papers together.
4. Mica squeezes a wet
sponge to remove
excess water.
5. Paulo applies pressure
to compress a stress ball
to reduce tension.
6. Mads uses a key to
unlock their front door.

Assignment:
Read and study the lesson 8.2 about the distance, time and space on page 158. Please be ready for the
discussion and quizzes next meeting.
