Our foundation, established in 1993, has tirelessly championed the cause of lifelong learning for over 31
years. As a politically and professionally independent civil society organization, we have supported the
Hungarian Folk High School Society since 1988, alongside its member organizations, all without receiving
direct state funding.
Rooted in the Nordic tradition of folk high schools, our mission is to bridge the cultural and educational
gaps prevalent in small towns and rural areas. The folk high school movement traces its philosophy to
Denmark’s N.F.S. Grundtvig, who envisioned education as preparation for life, rather than for examinations
or careers. His timeless belief in fostering mutual learning, dialogue, and personal growth is alive in our
programs. By offering adult education programs focused on community-based, person-centered learning,
we empower individuals and transform communities. Over the years, nearly two million participants have
engaged with our programs, many of whom have experienced profound life changes, discovered new
goals, and built stronger communities.
Why We Need Your Support
Despite these achievements, significant challenges remain. For example, 20% of employees in Hungary lack
basic literacy and numeracy skills. With your support, we can expand our reach and provide life-changing
opportunities to even more individuals, particularly in underserved rural areas.
