Author/writer- Mark Twain

This is a parable. In this story the writer describes the selfish nature of human beings. There are
five gifts which the author talks about. He says that pleasure, love, fame, wealth and death are
five gifts that are very valuable and precious. But, pleasure is not permanent. It is followed by
pain. Similarly, love is followed by grief. It leaves us in tears and sorrow. Fame is followed by
dis-fame which again makes us feel sad and bad. Wealth gives us happiness at the beginning but
later it leaves us in despair and poverty. The last on is death, which is the only truth. Everyone
has die some day and this is the truth of life.

We are happy if we know that pleasure, love, fame and wealth are not permanent. So, we should
only use them for good and should not cheat others.

If we overcome the fear of death, which is the only truth, then nothing can defeat us in life.

Moral: Death is the only eternal truth.
