1.4 COORDINATION
.1 Coordinate layout and installation of roof accessories with roofing membrane and base
flashing and interfacing and adjoining construction to provide a leakproof, weathertight,
secure, and noncorrosive installation.
.3 Coordinate installation of anchorages for gratings, grating frames, and supports. Supply
setting drawings, templates, and directions for installing anchorages, including sleeves,
concrete inserts, anchor bolts, and items with integral anchors, that are to be embedded in
concrete or masonry. Deliver such items to Project site in time for installation.
1.5 SUBMITTALS
.1 Action Submittals:
.1 Product Data: For each type of roof accessory indicated. Include material
descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes.
.2 Sustainable Design Submittals: Submit supporting documentation with the
completed worksheet.
.1 Product Data, Recycled Content: Indicate percentage of postconsumer and
preconsumer recycled content and relative dollar value per unit of product.

.2 If recycled content product is part of an assembly, indicate relative

ductwork, piping, and conduit.

.2 Informational Submittals:
.1 Welding certificates.
.1 Field Measurements: Verify actual locations of walls and other construction contiguous
with gratings by field measurements before fabrication.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
.3 Construction Waste Management: Comply with construction waste management plan for
disposal of building materials. Maintain record and receipts indicated in management
plans.
.2 General Performance: roof accessories shall withstand exposure to weather and resist
thermally induced movement without failure, rattling, leaking, or fastener disengagement
due to defective manufacture, fabrication, installation, or other defects in construction.
.3 Provide roof protection pad between roofing membrane and accessory supports; pad to be
approved by roofing manufacturer.
.5 Structural Performance: gratings shall withstand the effects of gravity loads and
the following loads and stresses within limits and under conditions indicated.
.6 Floors and Trench Covers: uniform load of 5.9 kPA (125 lbf/sq. ft.) or concentrated load of
2000 lbf, whichever produces the greater stress.
.7 Walkways and Elevated Platforms Other Than Exits: uniform load of 2.9 kPA (60 lbf/sq.
ft.)
.8 Walkways and Elevated Platforms Used as Exits: uniform load of 4.8 kPA (100 lbf/sq. ft.)
.9 Sidewalks and Vehicular Driveways, Subject to Trucking: uniform load of 11.9 kPA
(250 lbf/sq. ft.) or concentrated load of 8000 lbf, whichever produces the greater stress.
.1 Metal Bar Gratings: Comply with NAAMM MBG 531, "Metal Bar Grating Manual" and
NAAMM MBG 532, "Heavy-Duty Metal Bar Grating Manual”.
.1 General: Provide materials and types of fasteners, protective coatings, sealants, and other
miscellaneous items required by manufacturer for a complete installation.
.3 Welding Rods and Bare Electrodes: Type required for materials being welded and in
accordance with CSA W47.1 and CSA W59 (and CSA W47.1 Annex K for stainless
steel).
.4 Steel Finish: Hot-dip galvanized with a coating weight of not less than 1.8 oz./sq. ft.
of coated surface.
.5 Removable Grating Sections: Fabricate with banding bars attached by welding to entire
perimeter of each section. Include anchors and fasteners of type indicated or, if not
indicated, as recommended by manufacturer for attaching to supports.
.1 Provide no fewer than four weld lugs for each heavy-duty grating section, with each
lug shop welded to two bearing bars.
.2 Supply one of the following:
.1 Threaded bolts with nuts and washers for securing grating to supports.
.2 Galvanized malleable-iron flange clamp with galvanized bolt for securing
grating to supports. Supply as a system designed to be installed from above
grating by one person.
.3 Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be
incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:
.1 Kee Industrial Products, Inc.; Grating Clip.
.2 Lindapter North America, Inc.; Grate-Fast.
.4 Fabricate cutouts in grating sections for penetrations indicated. Arrange cutouts to
permit grating removal without disturbing items penetrating gratings.
.5 Do not notch bearing bars at supports to maintain elevation.
.1 Roof Walkway / Crossover Bridge: Metal planking formed from multiple C-shaped
channels with upper surface punched in serrated diamond or rectangular shapes to produce
raised slip-resistant surface and drainage holes. Provide support framing, brackets,
connectors, nosings, and other accessories and components needed for complete
installation. Include step units, stairs, or ramps of similar construction for changes in
elevation and where indicated. Equip with safety railings that are acceptable to authorities
having jurisdiction, where height of walkway or stairs requires them.
.1 Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Miro
Industries, Inc., Service Walkway Platform System in layout and configurations
indicated, or comparable product by one of the following:
.1 GS Metals Corp.
.2 PHP Systems/Design.
.3 Unistrut Corporation.
.4 Owner-approved equivalent.
.2 Plank Width: 298 mm (11-3/4 inches)
.4 Metal Material: 2.74 mm (0.108 inch) thick zinc-coated (galvanized) steel sheet.
2.8 FABRICATION
.1 Shop Assembly: Fabricate grating sections in shop to greatest extent possible to minimize
field splicing and assembly. Disassemble units only as necessary for shipping and handling
limitations. Use connections that maintain structural value of joined pieces. Clearly mark
units for reassembly and coordinated installation.
.2 Cut, drill, and punch material cleanly and accurately. Remove burrs and ease edges to a
radius of approximately 1 mm (1/32 inch) unless otherwise indicated. Remove sharp or
rough areas on exposed surfaces.
.3 Form from materials of size, thickness, and shapes indicated, but not less than that needed
to support indicated loads.
.6 Provide for anchorage of type indicated; coordinate with supporting structure. Fabricate
and space the anchoring devices to secure gratings, frames, and supports rigidly in place
and to support indicated loads.
.1 Comply with NAAMM's "Metal Finishes Manual for Architectural and Metal Products"
for recommendations for applying and designating finishes.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
.1 Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, to verify actual locations,
dimensions, and other conditions affecting performance of the Work.
.2 Verify that substrate is sound, dry, smooth, clean, sloped for drainage, and
securely anchored.
.3 Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 INSTALLATION
.3 Cutting, Fitting, and Placement: Perform cutting, drilling, and fitting required for
installing gratings. Set units accurately in location, alignment, and elevation; measured
from established lines and levels and free of rack.
.4 Provide temporary bracing or anchors in formwork for items that are to be built into
concrete or masonry.
.7 Metal Protection: Protect metals against galvanic action by separating dissimilar metals
from contact with each other or with corrosive substrates by painting contact surfaces with
bituminous coating or by other permanent separation as recommended by manufacturer.
.8 Roof Membrane Protection: Provide temporary work surface protection over the roofing
system during construction; submit protection plan during preconstruction meeting for
review and include protection diagram with submittal. Maintain protection of roofing
surface during construction.
.1 General: Install gratings to comply with recommendations of referenced metal bar grating
standards that apply to grating types and bar sizes indicated, including installation
clearances and standard anchoring details.
.2 Attach removable units to supporting members with type and size of clips and
fasteners indicated or, if not indicated, as recommended by grating manufacturer for
type of installation conditions shown.
.1 Verify that locations of access and servicing points for roof-mounted equipment are served
by locations of roof walkways.
.2 Install roof walkway support pads prior to placement of roof walkway support stands
onto low-slope roofing.
.2 Indoor Air Quality: Control odors during preparation and installation of materials for
potentially noxious materials; identify and employ control measures.
.1 Control odors during cleaning operations for potentially noxious materials; identify
and employ control measures.
.1 Galvanized Surfaces: Clean field welds, bolted connections, and abraded areas and repair
galvanizing according to ASTM A780.
.3 Replace items that have been damaged or that cannot be successfully repaired by
