Tourist attractions in London

The capital of England is a well-known spot for tourists, since it has multiple historic and
amusing places.
Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace is a historical building every tourist has seen who set foot in London. It is
where The Royal Family is accommodated. You can see the Changing of the Guard in front of
the big entrance every day. A quadrangle garden is in the middle of the palace. Inside there are
775 rooms, which include drawing rooms, ball rooms, offices etc. There is also a tennis court,
a post office, a swimming pool The most guarded is the east side where the Royal apartments
are. Even though not all parts of the Royal Palace are open to the public, there is still a lot to
see. If you see the Royal Standard flag flying above the palace, the King is currently in
residence. If there is a Union flag above the palace, it means the King is elsewhere.
London Eye
One of the most prominent attractions is the London Eye, also known as the Millenium
Wheel, which is in the centre of London next to the River Thames. Thousands of people visit
the ferris wheel every year. It was opened by the Prime Minister in December 1999, however,
it was only open to the public in March 2000, due to a capsule clutch problem. It was built to
commemorate the millennium of London. It was designed by a married couple, who had an
architecture company. The London Eye has 32 ovoidal-shaped capsules, which are fully
sealed and climate controlled. Each capsule represents a borough of London and they can
accomodate up to 25 visitors for an incredible experience. The visitors can see as far as 40
kilometers on a clear day to witness landmarks including St. Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham
Palace, Tower Bridge, The Shard and more. The wheel moves so slowly—two revolutions per
hour—that it need not stop for boarding or disembarkation of passengers, except for those
with disabilities.

Big Ben
Big Ben is the name given to the massive bell inside the clock tower which weighs more than
13 tons. Although Big Ben is just a nickname for the Great Bell of the Great Clock of
Westminster, it is commonly used between the tourists and the inhabitants. It was built in a
Gothic revival architecture style. The tower has eleven floors and it is 96 meter tall. The
origin of the bell’s nickname is open to question: it may be nicknamed after Sir Benjamin
Hall, a tall minister, who oversaw its installation or heavyweight boxing champion Benjamin
Caunt. Big Ben has rarely stopped. Even after a bombing, which destroyed the Common
Chamber during the Second World War, the clock tower survived and continued to strike the
hours. In 2017 a four-year schedule of renovation works began on the tower. Modifications
have included glazing and repainting the clock dials, and upgrading lighting, and repairing
roof tiles among other improvements.
The Palace of Westminster serves as the meeting place for both the House of Commons and
the House of Lords, the two houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
National Gallery
Ranking among the top art museums in the world , London’s National Gallery represents an
almost complete survey of European paintings from 1260 to 1920. It was founded in 1824, in
Trafalgar Square, in the central of London. It was designed by William Wilkins in a
neoclassical style. Over the years the building was expanded to exhibit mora art. The gallery,
founded as a gift to the nation, serves as a center of visual art, education, and culture. The
collection of more than 150,000 paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, photographs, prints, and
drawings spans the history of Western art and showcases some of the triumphs of human
creativity. The National Gallery Collection contains over 2,300 paintings, including many
famous works, such as van Eyck's Arnolfini Portrait, Velázquez's Rokeby Venus, Turner's
Fighting Temeraire and Van Gogh's Sunflowers.
Madame Tussauds
Madame Tussauds is a wax museum founded in 1835 by a French sculptor, Marie Tussaud.
She was born in Strasbourg, France in the 18th century. In 1835 she settled down in London,
where she opened her own museum. It displays the waxwork of many famous and historical
figures as well as popular film and televison characters. One of the main attractions of her
museum was the Chamber of Horrors, where waxworks of notoriuos murderers can be seen.
