The founding of IIT Kharagpur in 1951 can be called a significant
event in many senses. It evoked the idea of a self-reliant nation. The
institute was initially housed in the Hijli Detention Camp. Thus, a
prison house was transformed into a temple of learning. It was set up
in the sylvan surroundings far from the maddening crowd, to provide
the right atmosphere for creative thinking.
In educated circles across the country IIT Kharagpur soon became a
household name as a torch bearer of scientific knowledge each IIT
pursued the common goal of excellence in its own way, IIT Kharagpur
was created based on the principle of fairness, justice and
dedication with a clear and lofty sense of purpose. It is the largest
technical institution in India and ranked the best institution in the
country imparting technical education and research.

ABOUT US
ENTREPRENEURSHIP CELL is a student body of IIT Kharagpur, formed
in 2006 solely with the purpose of inspiring and guiding start-ups in
IIT Kharagpur and to foster an entrepreneurial culture in the campus
of IIT Kharagpur. We now play that role on a national scale & have
won acclaim across the world. We have started various initiatives to
inculcate the entrepreneurial spirit among the youngsters of India.

Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) is IIT Kharagpur's annual,
international corporate summit conducted by Entrepreneurship
Cell, IIT Kharagpur. It is India's largest student-run
entrepreneurial summit, GES has always been a unique platform
for academicians, new-age entrepreneurs, eminent business
personalities, venture capitalists, and students to gather in one
place and share their entrepreneurial endeavors and
experiences, as well as pledge to take entrepreneurship to
greater heights, since its inception in 2007.
