BIKE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

To ensure that your bikes stay well maintained, we recommend that you follow this bike maintenance schedule

Encourage kids to carry out basic safety checks each time they ride

Teachers or parents should schedule a monthly check of each bike, and set aside any bikes with issues

We recommend that an experienced cycle mechanic carry out the six month and annual checks on each bike

Every ride Monthly Six months Annually

Simple checks for kids: Cleaning and basic checks: Replace and lubricate where needed: Detailed assessment and replacement
parts where needed on each bike:
 Check that tyres are  Clean the bike with a rag  Check for worn brake pads and replace
inflated and look for any  Inspect each bike frame and if needed  Check all bearings: hubs, bottom
signs of wear on tread components for signs of wear  Replace worn handlebar grips and bar bracket, headset and pedals and
 Check brakes are  Wipe the chain and cassette cogs end plugs adjust or overhaul as needed
working clean with a rag/degreaser and  Clean and check for chain and cogs and  Check all cables and housings for
relube replace worn parts as required fraying, breaks, rust and corrosion
 Check wheels for loose spokes  Lube and check the cables to prevent and replace if necessary
 Spin wheels & look for wobbles binding and check for fraying and  Replace brake pads and handle bar
 Replace worn handlebar grips and rusting – replace if necessary grips and bar end plugs if needed

signs of wear such as worn sidewalls
