3 Installation
Vertical installation is recommended to ensure the best possible convection. When installing, it is important to
ensure 30 mm clearance above and below the module and that the cooling vents are not covered. The necessary
clearance on the left and right sides is provided by the mounting clips.

In most applications, industrial controllers are installed in control cabinets that also contain electromagnetic switch-
ing elements (relays, contactors), transformers, motor controllers, frequency inverters, etc. Different kinds of elec-
tromagnetic interference inevitably exist in such control cabinets.
Generally, this kind of interference cannot be avoided. However, if suitable grounding, shielding and other pro-
tective measures are taken, negative influences between devices can be considerably reduced. These protec-
tive measures include control cabinet grounding, module grounding, cable shield grounding, protective circuits on
electromechanical switching elements, the correct use of cables as well as taking into account the cable cross
section and type.
Grounding essentially has 2 different functions:
• Protective grounding
• Dissipation of electromagnetic disturbances
The housing must be conductively connected (screwed in) to the back wall of the control cabinet using the 4
mounting holes.

5.1.1 Reset
The button must be pressed for less than 2 seconds to trigger a reset. This triggers a hardware reset on the CPU,
which means that:
• All application programs are stopped.
• All outputs are set to zero.
The PLC then boots into service mode by default. The startup mode that follows after pressing the reset button
can be defined in Automation Studio.
• Service mode (default)
• Warm restart
• Cold restart
• Diagnostic mode
General information
The Automation Runtime operating system, system components and application project must be installed on the
flash drive in order for the application project to be processed on the CPU.
► Before an online connection can be established via Ethernet, the CPU must be assigned an IP address. To
do so, select the following menu option in Automation Studio: Online / Settings.
Then search for the B&R target systems located in the local network. Select the following menu command
for this: View / Online settings / Browse.
The CPU should appear in the list. If the CPU has not already received an IP address from a DHCP server,
right-click to open the shortcut menu and select the following command: Set IP parameters.
All required network configurations can be made on a temporary basis in this dialog box (they should be
identical to the settings defined in the project).
► Configure an online connection in Automation Studio. For configuration details: See "Communication - Online
communication" in Automation Help.
► Select the following menu option to start the download procedure in Automation Studio:
AS <V4.3.3 Online / Services / Transfer Automation Runtime
AS V4.3.3 or later Project / Project installation / Transfer Automation Runtime
The CPUs do not use a battery. This makes them completely maintenance-free. The following measures make
operation without a backup battery possible.
Data and real-time clock buffering Type of buffering Note
Remanent variables FRAM This FRAM stores its contents ferroelectrically. Unlike normal SRAM, this does
not require a battery.
Real-time clock Gold foil capacitor The real-time clock is buffered for approx. 1000 hours by a gold foil capacitor. The
gold foil capacitor is completely charged after 3 continuous hours of operation.

Digital outputs DO01 to DO33 can be loaded with up to 2 A. However, the summation current per output driver
is only permitted to be 2 A. An output driver always operates 2 outputs, one with an odd number and the next
one with an even number.
Example: Output 1 and output 2, output 3 and output 4 or output 31 and output 32. Output 33 can be loaded with
2 A without restriction.
10 Function description
10.1 Analog inputs
Analog inputs 1 to 7 are equipped with a configurable input filter and input ramp limit. The filter and ramp limit are
calculated with a cycle of 1 ms.
Input ramp limiting can only be performed in conjunction with filtering; input ramp limiting is performed before
filtering. The difference of the input value change is checked for exceeding the specified limit. In the event of
overshoot, the tracked input value is equal to the old value ± the limit value.
Adjustable limit values:
The limit value is to be interpreted as "Change in value every 1 ms".
Value Limit value
0 The input value is applied without limiting.
1 0x3FFF = 16383
2 0x1FFF = 8191
3 0x0FFF = 4095
4 0x07FF = 2047
5 0x03FF = 1023
6 0x01FF = 511
7 0x00FF = 255
Input ramp limiting is well suited for suppressing disturbances (spikes). The following examples show the function-
ality of input ramp limiting based on an input jump and a disturbance.
Example 1
The input value jumps from 8000 to 17000. The diagram shows the tracked input value with the following settings:
Input ramp limiting = 4 = 0x07FF = 2047
Filter level = 2
Input value

Example 2
A disturbance is imposed on the input value. The diagram shows the tracked input value with the following settings:
Input ramp limiting = 4 = 0x07FF = 2047
Filter level = 2

10.1.3 Filter
The input value is evaluated more or less strongly depending on the filter level. Input ramp limiting can then be
applied based on this evaluation.
