SECTION-A (READING -10 MARKS)

Q.1 Read the following passage carefully.


One day a wonderful plate made of gold fell from heaven into the court of a temple. “A gift from heaven
to him who loves mankind the best” was written on it. The village priest invited people to the temple and
told them about the gift from heaven. (Para - 1)
Everybody claimed that they loved mankind best and narrated their own kind deeds. But as they touched
the plate, it turned into lead. The richest man in the village spoke about his big charity, but when he
touched the plate, it turned into lead. (Para - 2)
A poor farmer was also present there. He sat in a corner quietly. The priest called him to touch the plate.
He bowed to the plate and touched it. It shone more brightly. The priest gave the plate to the farmer as
his love for mankind was true. (Para - 3)
Based on the reading of the passage, answer the following questions. [1×5=5]
a) Mention the place where the plate of gold fell.
b) State what happened when the rich man touched the plate made of gold.
c) The poor farmer was given the plate of gold. Give a reason.
d) Find out the synonym of the word “present” used in the above passage. (Para 1)
e) Find out the antonym of the word “wealthy” used in the above passage. (Para 3)

In the early part of spring,
