1. List at least three objectives of tillage (6 points).

2. Why there are different types of ard ploughs at different regions of the world? (2 points).
3. Why is the mouldboard plough used in animal traction not widely adopted by Ethiopian
farmers? (3 points)
4. Discuss the two types of harnessing systems we can use on zebu cattle. List the
advantages and disadvantages of both types. (6 points).
5. What are the things we consider when determining the length of yokes? (4 points)
6. List the 4 types of implements used with animal traction for tillage and cultivation.
Discuss the functions of each type. (8 points).
7. Why is the breast band type of hitching preferable in donkeys and horses instead of
wither yokes? (3 points)
8. Why does implement draft change from time to time in the same field? (3 points).
9. What are the parameters which determine the work rates of tillage implements? (5 points)
II. Workout Questions (20 points)
1. Assume you are using a mouldboard plough with a width of 4 meters to till a land with
fine textured soil at a speed of 5 km/h and at a depth of 30 cm.
a. Determine the maximum expected draft using the ASAE equation. (8 points).
b. Determine the drawbar power requirement of the implement. (4 points).
c. Determine the theoretical field capacity. (4 points)
d. Determine the effective field capacity if the machine is operated at 70% field
efficiency. (4 points)
