English 1 Honors Gifted

English 1 Honors

Welcome to 9th grade! An important goal for you to attain this year is to prepare for the various courses
and teachers you will encounter in high school. This means that you are responsible for being an active
learner, to follow class expectations, and to be an academically honest student.

Required Supplies

 Working Device – Most assignments will be completed on a computer/laptop.


 Three Ring Binder or Duotang Folder (stores notebook paper for specific class assignments and
unit pages from the myPerspectives consumable textbook)
 Notebook Paper (college ruled)
 Blue or Black Pens; Pencils
 Colored Pencils & Pens (optional for creative inspiration and annotation strategies)
 Highlighters
 Planner/Calendar (optional for writing daily/weekly/monthly reminders)
 Class Consumable Resources (myPerspectives; Test Prep)
 Class Novels (TBA in advance of reading)
 How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster (revised edition)
Absences

When you are absent, please contact a study buddy and refer to Schoology. Please email me at
[email protected] if you have questions about missed assignments from EXCUSED absences.
It is your responsibility to complete any make-up work within a time period equal to the number of days
absent or approved by me.

Academic Grading Policy

All grades are given on a point system based on the weight of the individual assignment and the weight
of the category. If you have questions about a grade, contact me after viewing the student portal.

90-100 A 3.50-4.00 60-69 D 1.00-1.49


80-89 B 2.50-3.49 0-59 F .99 – and below
70-79 C 1.50-2.49

Required Class Procedures

 Be in class on time.
 Arrive to class prepared.
 Place cell phones in your assigned space unless otherwise specified.
 Place any earbuds/headphones away in your bookbag unless otherwise specified.
 Complete your required assignments.
 Write any home learning assignments and/or any reminders in some type of planner or
calendar. PLEASE PRACTICE DIFFERENT WAYS TO STAY ORGANIZED. DO WHAT WORKS FOR
YOU!
 Stay organized, produce neat and polished work, and be accountable for your actions.
 Convey respect. If someone is having a bad day, smile and say something nice. 
