Usage Precautions

WARNINGS

Before operation be sure to check the set condition of the housing.

This filter is designed to operate on compressed air. Input of a different type
of fluid may damage the unit and may lead to injury or water leakage (drain

Do not move and install this unit by yourself.


Consult your dealer or service specialist. Improper installation may result in

1. This filter is designed to operate on compressed air. Input of a different type of fluid
may damage the unit and may lead to injury or water leakage (drain circuit).
2. Be sure that operating conditions remain within the specified range while the unit is

Notes:Pressure is indicated by gauge pressure.
Inlet air of the Super Mist Filter (MSF) to be processed through air dryer beforehand.
Air processing capacity is converted to the suction air condition (at Atmospheric pressure).
Be sure to an air dryer, a super line filter and a super mist filter in the stage before a super
ACF and filter KSF .

5. In case of using the air dryer in the compressed air line with rapid compressor fluctuation,
be sure to install the air tank after the air dryer so that the pressure fluctuation becomes
0.34MPa/min or less. If the pressure fluctuation is rapid, it may result in malfunction.
6. MSF and KSF Filters are not applied with ISO 14644-1 (F.S.209D),because of structure
and characteristic performance.

The Super Line Filter (LSF) , the Super ACF Filter (KSF) , the Super Drain Filter (DSF) and the Super
Mist Filter (MSF) on the QSQ is not equipped with an element life indicator and a differential pressure
gauge (option).
The Super ACF Filter (KSF) is not fitted with auto drain trap and ball valve.
Auto-drain trap is not attached to the Super Line Filter (LSF) on the QSQ.
The Super Line Filter (LSF150B 2000-1) on the QSQ is equipped with a differential
pressure gauge.

Operational Notes

Preparation for Use


1. Check that the housing are not loose.
Their looseness may result in dislocation of the housing and blowing out of
compressed air and may lead to injury.

2. Check that the body housing and band are not loose.
Their looseness may result in dislocation of the housing
and blowing out of compressed air and may lead to injury. Body

3. Open the ball valve located before the auto drain
trap.
Using the unit with the valve closed may result in failure Band
to discharge the drain and may cause water drops or oil
drops to come out. (LSF400-1 2000-1 MSF400-1 Housing
2000-1 DSF400-1 1300-1)

Valve Operation
1. Slowly operate the valves for the air pipes before and after the filter. Rapid valve operation
may result in damage to the element or differential pressure gauge (option or accessory).
2. To purge air from the pipe and receiver tank, purge air from the outlet side so that air will
not flow backward through the filter. Air flowing backward through the filter may result in
damage to the filter element or differential pressure gauge. (option or accessory).

Operation
At the beginning of the operation, glass fibers adhered to the element surface often flow out
to the outlet side. keep air flowing for a while, and they will stop.

Periodic Inspection and Cleaning
Daily Inspection

WARNING
Purge compressed air from the body before cleaning, maintenance or inspection.
Compressed air, if left, will blow off and may lead to injury.
Always confirm the state of the auto drain unit before starting the flow of
compressed air. Failure to securely install the drain unit and fittings could result in
compressed air bursting out and injuries.

The KSF filter and the LSF filter included with the QSQ do not include an auto drain trap.

Visually check the auto drain trap every day.
Check for air leakage.
Check if the trap is operating normally (water is discharged periodically).
●How Auto Drain Trap Works
When a drain is collected in the Bowl and reaches a certain level, it will be
automatically discharged. When the operating pressure drops below 0.1Mpa , all the
drain left in the Bowl will automatically discharged.

IMPORTANT

If the auto drain trap does not function properly, oil and water mist can enter the
compressed air and will flow through the air outlet side.
The KSF filter do not include an auto drain trap.

2. Disassembly and Cleaning


(1) Purge compressed air from the housing of filter.
(2) Screw left and unfasten the housing.
(3) Unfasten a fixed nut under the housing with 19mm spanner.
(4) Wash the housing and auto drain trap with the neutral detergent.
*Do not use the organic solvent.
3. Assembly
(1) Confirm whether there is in o-ring the wound.
(2) Screw right and fasten the housing.

Disassembly and Cleaning of Auto Drain Trap FD2
After a long period of use, each part of the trap is contaminated and the unit may fail
to operate normally. Remove the unit and disassemble and clean the trap every week.
To facilitate re-assembly, carefully observe the condition and mounting directions of
the assembled parts before disassembly. See the figure below.

2.Cleaning the unit
(1)Close the ball valve.

(2) Loosen the auto drain trap drain cock


by turning it to the left, and after releasing
the drain, release the internal pressure.
(The direction to turn the drain cock is
when looking down from the top of the
auto drain trap.)

(3) Press the bowl guard, turn 45°, and pull down to remove the bowl assembly. When
removing the bowl assembly, the screen may fall out, so be careful not to lose it.

(4) Remove and clean the screen.

(5) Put water into the bowl and lightly shake it to
remove dirt from around the float.

IMPORTANT

The bowl assembly cannot be disassembled.


Forcibly disassembling it will damage the unit.
(6) Inspect to make sure there are no damaged parts.
In particular, carefully inspect the O-ring.

3.Parts to be replaced based on inspection Float


If the unit does not function normally in spite of
disassembly and cleaning, there may be trouble
with the bowl assembly ( ) and it should be replaced
with a new one. Likewise, if the O-ring or screen is
damaged, it should be replaced a new one. O-ring
When replacing parts, be sure to refer to the section
on page 19, "Parts to be Replaced Periodically",
as parts will differ depending on specific unit models.
The removal and reassembly procedure when replacing
parts is the same as the procedure used when performing disassembly and cleaning.
The O-ring is part of the bowl assembly.

WARNING
Follow the procedure listed below to reassemble the drain trap by conducting the reverse
of the procedure used in disassembly. Failure to reliably assemble the unit can result in
the bowl coming off and compressed air bursting out, which could lead to injuries.

4.Assembly
(1) Replace the cleaned screen to its initial position,
line up the latch with the arrow, and turn until the latch falls into the detent, which should
result in a clear "Click" sound.
(2) Turn the drain cock to the right to close it.

reinstalling the bowl assembly.

IMPORTANT

Close the drain cock by turning it to the right when installing or when performing
inspection and maintenance.Failure to close the cock will result in air leakage during
operation.
Operation in atmospheres containing the substances listed in the chart below or in direct
sunlight can result in breaking of the bowl.

Notes on Replacing the Filter Element


1. Do not contaminate the plastic foam.
On the Super Mist Filter (MSF), the outside of the filter element is covered with soft plastic
foam. When replacing the element, be careful not to make the plastic foam layer get oil or
damage it. The plastic foam layer plays an important role to prevent the caught and
separated impurities from going to the secondary side.
2. Extraneous Matters on Element Surface.
Use an air gun or something else to remove extraneous matters, if any, lightly from
the element surface.
3. Ensure sealing.
When securing the filter element, mount the filter element straight and ensure that the O
ring connection part is completely sealed. Incomplete sealing may cause impurities to flow
to the secondary side.
4. Consult the service specialist for replacing the filter element.
Improper replacement may result in blowing out of compressed air and may lead to injury
or flowing of impurities to the secondary side, which is dangerous. Consult the dealer or
service specialist if available.

Replacement of the Filter Element


1. Regularly replace the filter element every year.
The element replacement period may be shorter than 1 year (by a period of some months)
depending on the operating environment.
2. If the lamp of the element life indicator option or accessory begins to blink, replace the
filter element.
The element life indicator lamp begins to blink in about one year after the battery is
installed.
3. Replace the filter element in the filter on the QSQ when the Element Peplacement lamp on
the QSQ turns on.
IMPORTANT
When replacing the element, also replace the battery for the life indicator. (see page14)

4. If the differential pressure gauge (option or accessory) has been installed, replace the
filter element when the pointer indicates 0.045 to 0.07MPa even (DSF is 0.02MPa) before
a lapse of one year.

1. Loosen the screw of the indicator cover.
2. Slide the cover off.

IMPORTANT

Be sure to use AA size alkaline batteries LR-6 for the batteries. Use of any other
battery may result in malfunction or short life.
Place the positive and negative sides correctly.
Do not use a new battery and an old battery or another type of battery in the
indicator.
Immediately take out the batteries when exhausted.

(1)Loosen the screw securing the band cover
and check that air has been purged from the Band cover

3. Replace the element.
(1) Pull the internal element downward.
(2) Mount the O ring on the head cover of a new element
and insert it into the body.

4. Mount the housing.


(1) Place the O ring on the housing side and push it up O-ring
until it is coupled.

(2) When mounting the band, place the band cover


attaching screw in the center of the band tightening Stopper
location.
(3) Tighten the band until the wing nut is stopped by the
stopper.

5. Set the band cover to the correct position, then tighten the fixing screw.

6. If a element life indicator has been installed, replace the batteries. (see page 14)

Organic solvent (aromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbon compound)
Benzene, toluene, phenol, trichloroethylene, gasoline, thinner, etc.
Sulfurous acid gas, chlorine gas, Freon gas
Acids -hydrochloric acid, sulfuric cid, acetic acid, benzoic acid, etc.

4. Do not install the product outdoors.
5. Do not install this product in a place subject to direct sunlight. Subjecting this
product to direct sunlight for a long period may lead to air leakage.

CAUTION
Install the product on a floor strong enough to withstand the weight of the product.
Improper installation will result in water leakage or injury due to overturn or drop.

IMPORTANT
Leave adequate space around the product to enable preventive maintenance and
disassembling the filter.
(1) The distance from the band cover end to any obstacle such as a wall should be
at least 250mm as shown below. (LSF MSF400-1 2000-1 KSF400 2000
DSF400-1 1300-1)
(2) By referring to the following table, secure a distance (L) between the pipe
connection and the floor as long as possible.

Pipe Connection Procedures
1. Perform piping so that the air flows in the direction of
the "arrow"

2. Secure the product with mounting brackets if there will
be heavy loads on the product inlet or outlet piping.
3. In case air may flow backward through the filter after
the air compressor is shut off, install a “check valve”
on the outlet side of the filter.
4. Install a purge valve on the air filter outlet side pipe. It
is useful for releasing internal pressure.
5. When replacing the filter element, if the air cannot be stopped because of continuous
operation of the air compressor, it is recommended that a bypass circuit with the same
filter be installed.
6. If much rust in the pipe comes off or there is much entry of impurities because of the long
pipe from the air compressor to the air dryer, it is recommended that the LFH(Max.
Operating Pressure 1.57MPa) be installed before the air dryer.
7. Before performing flushing at the end of piping work, remove the differential pressure
gauge (option or accessory) and filter element. For removing the filter element, refer to
“Replacing of the Filter Element” on page 13.
8. If the ambient temperature could fall to 2℃ or lower, install a pipe heating cable on the
auto drain trap.
9. The super drain filter removes drains (water drops,etc.) and solid particles mixed in
compressed air. Install it as far as possible from the air compressor and right before the
pneumatic equipment to be used, and it will remove then effectively.

IMPORTANT
Running high temperature air through the Super Mist Filter (MSF) can lead to early
damage. To avoid this, always install an air dryer before the filter.
Air back-flow can damage the element. It can also lead to damage of the differential
pressure gauge. Therefore it is advisable to consider the entire air system and install
"check valves" accordingly.

10. If the drain pipe of the auto drain trap rises or is too long, a drain may not be discharged
because of back pressure produced.

11. If tubing is to be connected to the auto drain trap piping, use nylon tubing with an inside
diameter of φ5.7 - φ6.0. In addition, tubing can also be installed on the drain cock
section. If making screw piping connections to the drain, use the included screw adapter.
After inserting the air tubing into the connection port, push up until the groove on the
sleeve is no longer visible.

12. In situations like when the piping leads out of the right side and the filter faces the back
side, reinstall the filter as indicated below.

Remove the band cover and small fixing screw securing the body, reverse it, and
reattach.
Remove the housing, turn 180°, and then reattach.

IMPORTANT

Much air flowing backward may result in damage to the filter element. The
differential pressure gauge option or accessory may also fail. Install a check valve
by considering the entire air system.
When connecting the pipe to the outlet or inlet, be sure to secure the filter connector
with the pipe wrench and then screw in the pipe. Turning the body by hand may lead
to damage or air leakage.
When a long pipe is connected to the machine, or when any force is added to the
end connection of the machine, support this machine evenly with the mounting
clamps [bracketes] as follows.

IMPORTANT
When installing the differential pressure gauge, do not install any valve between the
air filter body and the differential pressure gauge. Such installation may result in
one-sided pressure on either high or low pressure side and may lead to damage to
the differential pressure gauge.
When installing or remove the differential pressure gauge, fit the spanner over the
hexagonal part and then turn. Turning the differential pressure gauge body by hand
may result in damage to the gauge.

Product Warranty
This product shall be warranted as follows. For warranty repairs, please contact the dealer where the product was sold after
confirming the product model and serial number.
1. Warranty Period
(1) One year

2. What Is Covered by this Warranty


(1) If breakdown occurs within the above warranty period and the cause of the breakdown lies with ORION, then the damaged
part(s) will be replaced or repaired by ORION free of charge. Note that depending on the country/region where the product is
being used, repairs may take more time or be impossible. Please consult with your dealer in advance regarding service and
repair options for products to be operated outside of Japan.
(2) In principal, the owner of the product will confirm diagnosis of the breakdown according to the operating manual. However,
there might be cases where this work may be carried out instead by a member of ORION's service network. In such cases,
there will be no charge where the cause of the breakdown lies with ORION.
(3) Note that even during the warranty period, there will be costs incurred by the user (outside the warranty) in the following cases:
Breakdown resulting from operating under unsuitable operating conditions, environment, handling, use, or method of
operation outside those written in the specifications or operating manual of the product, or as a result of carelessness or
negligence on the part of the user.
Breakdown resulting from non-ORION products (user's own equipment or software design, etc.).
Breakdown resulting from repairs or modifications conducted by non-ORION designated contractors.
Breakdown which could be recognized as being avoidable in cases where an ORION product is used in conjunction with the
user's equipment where the user's equipment is legally regulated to have a safety device whereby inclusion of the safety
device could have averted breakdown, or in cases where the addition of function, structure, etc., could have, according to
common knowledge of the industry, averted breakdown.
Any breakdown which is recognized as being avoidable had normal fixed term inspections, and/or normal maintenance and
replacement of consumables, been performed as indicated in the operating manual, etc.
Replacement of consumables (parts to be replaced at fixed terms or based on inspection).
Breakdown due to external factors beyond human control such as fire etc., or breakdown resulting from natural disaster such
as earthquake, lightning, storm and flood damage, etc.
Breakdown due to reasons unforeseeable due to the technological standard at the time the product was shipped from
ORION.
Any breakdown resulting from corrosion caused by operating the product in an atmosphere that contains corrosive gases,
organic solvents, chemical solutions, etc., or in an environment where such substances could come into contact with the
product.
(4) In cases where a separate contract, etc. has been established, that contract will take priority..
3. Warranty Obligation Exclusions
Regardless of the warranty period, compensation for any of the following will not fall under the obligations of this warranty: any
hindrance or accident compensation resulting from reasons not under ORION's obligations; any lost opportunities, lost profit,
secondary losses, damages to non-ORION products incurred by users resulting from the breakdown of ORION products; and
any replacement work, readjustment of on-site machinery and equipment, and operating work by users.
4.Product Use Limitations
(1) When using ORION products in connection with important facilities, be sure to establish backup and/or failsafe measures so
that even in the event of breakdown of such products, such breakdown will not lead to serious accidents or losses.
(2)ORION products are designed and produced as general purpose equipment to be used in general industrial applications.
Therefore, this warranty will not apply when used in the following applications: However, in cases where the customer/user
takes full responsibility and confirms the performance of the product in advance, and takes necessary safety precautions,
please consult with ORION and we will consider if use of the product in the desired application is appropriate.
Atomic energy, aviation, aerospace, railway works, shipping, vehicles (cars and trucks), medical applications, transportation
applications, and/or any applications where it might have a great effect on human life or property.
Electricity, gas, or water supply systems, etc. where high levels of reliability and safety are demanded.
